2026 MOKAN Preseason All-State: Quick Hits - Underclass
March 5, 2026
On Sunday, February 8th, the Prep Baseball Kansas staff traveled to the Mac N Seitz Indoor Facility in Kansas City, MO to host the annual MOKAN Preseason All-State. This event was open for 2026-2029 class members, selected by invite, and featured 120+ players from the two state area.
All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.
Shortly after the event, our staff compiled several of the day’s stat leaders inside our traditional ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE.
Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s underclass standouts below within these ‘Quick Hits’.
KANSAS FOLLOWS
+ One of the top bats in the Sunflower State’s sophomore class, OF Jordy Scott (Rock Creek, 2028) put on a power display in BP during Sunday’s trip to Kansas City. The physical 5-foot-11, 184-pound outfielder barreled ball after ball in batting practice, posting a personal-best 104.4 mph exit velocity and averaging 89.2 mph from a powerful left-handed stroke that easily generates lift and looks to do damage to the pull side. A high-level athlete with tools on both sides of the ball - including a 89 mph arm from the outfield and a 3.90 30-yard dash - and production that consistently shows up in games, Scott will be a must-see name this spring.

+ CIF Micah Reif (Blue Valley North, 2028) continues to emerge as a power bat to watch this spring after another strong showing in this look. Reif continues to add strength to his 5-foot-10, 197-pound frame, along with polish to a powerful, repeatable right-handed swing, resulting in a personal-best 102.4 mph exit velocity on Sunday. The Blue Valley North continues to trend upward and looks poised to keep climbing as he continues to prove produce at the highest levels.
+ Coming off a statement freshman campaign last spring, INF Asher Newton (Manhattan, 2028) is one of the fastest risers in the state and shows no signs of slowing down. Standing at 6-foot, 180 pounds with a swing that has already proven it can produce in-game at a high level, Newton has added even more power to his profile, peaking at 100.9 mph exit velocity with a 91.6 mph average in Sunday’s look - both among the event’s leaders. Defensively, Newton is as sure-handed as they come, with arm strength (T86 mph) that should allow him to stick on left side at the next level.

+ Sunday’s trip to Kansas City gave our staff another look at OF Everett Hash (Olathe Northwest, 2028). One of the top bats in the state’s sophomore class, Hash showed more polish and effortless power than we’ve seen in previous looks, flashing advanced raw strength with a 99.8 mph peak exit velocity and 370 foot peak distance. A 6-foot-2, 183-pound athlete, Hash also posted a 3.94 30-yard dash and reached 85 mph on his firmest throw from the outfield, continuing to show a well-rounded toolset.
+ A top talent in the state’s sophomore class, currently ranked No. 4 overall, INF William Pepper (Spring Hill, 2028) did nothing but solidify that status in Sunday’s look. Pepper’s athleticism stands out on the infield, where he moves with confidence, showing reliable hands and a sense of comfort on the move. At the plate, the 6-foot, 179-pound righty’s polished right-handed swing produced a 97.3 mph peak exit velocity, projecting as a potential middle-of-the-order bat at the next level.

+ OF Landen Hays (Olathe Northwest, 2028) is a follow left-handed bat coming out of Sunday’s event. A twitchy, high-motor athlete at 5-foot-9, 200 pounds, Hays stayed on the barrel throughout BP, spraying line drives to the pull side with a more polished swing than we’ve seen in previous looks. He barreled his best ball at 97 mph, averaging 90.2 mph per batted ball. Hays also showed athletic actions in the outfield, pairing that with a 91 mph arm, the second-best mark of the day. The Olathe Northwest product looks poised for a big spring.
+ INF/RHP Brodee Rawlins (Olathe South, 2028) turned in another impressive two-way performance at Sunday’s event, reinforcing his status as a top sophomore-class follow. Rawlins swung a compact, repeatable right-handed barrel in BP that has already shown the ability to handle high-end pitching in game action, and he has continued to add noticeable juice, averaging 89.3 mph per batted ball with a 97 mph peak. He also hopped on the mound and showed an uptick in velocity, working his fastball at 85–86 mph while showing feel to land a 72–74 mph curveball and 77–78 mph changeup for strikes.

+ INF/OF Marshall Awtry (Blue Valley Northwest, 2028) is a polished right-handed hitter who came away a winner from this event. Having added noticeable strength since our last look, Awtry consistently repeated quality contact from the right side of the plate, averaging 89.7 mph per barrel with a 96.9 mph peak. His Blast metrics further backed up the performance - 22.8 mph average hand speed, 75 mph peak bat speed, and 28.1 G average rotational acceleration - all well above average and indicative of even more power to come. Already a proven in-game producer with the versatility and athleticism (3.86 30-yard dash) to play both the infield and outfield, Awtry shapes up as a high-priority follow this spring.
+ Two more sophomore standouts from Sunday are C/OF Miles Nichols (Mill Valley, 2028) and INF Ryder Holmstrom (St. Thomas Aquinas, 2028). Nichols peaked at a 95.7 mph exit velocity and showed notable arm strength defensively, recording 1.98–2.10 pop times to pair with a 78 mph arm from the chute and 85 mph from the outfield. Holmstrom reached 95.8 mph from the right side of the plate and fired an 85 mph bullet across the diamond.
+ Sunday’s trip to Kansas City gave our staff another look at the top backstop in the state’s sophomore class, C Charlie Foote (Blue Valley Southwest, 2028). A standout at last summer’s Central Super Sophomore Games, Foote continues to show impact bat potential from an athletic left-handed swing that has proven it can handle some of the region’s best arms. He squared his best ball at 95.1 mph in this look, averaging 87.8 mph as he continues to add strength and polish at the plate to go along with an already mature approach. Defensively, Foote remains one of the top catch-and-throw backstops in the state, posting 1.99–2.06 pop times with a 78 mph arm from the chute in this look.

+ Another backstop to note from this look, C Carter Laubach (Lawrence Free State, 2028) put together a well-rounded showing, popping 2.05–2.18 with a 74 mph arm from the crouch and barreling his best ball at 93.3 mph. While the metrics may not immediately jump off the page, Laubach has proven he can consistently do damage against some of the best arms in the region and effectively command a talented pitching staff as well.
+ Sunday’s look provided another glimpse at the top freshman in the Sunflower State — INF Easton Vesey (Gardner-Edgerton, 2029). An all-around athlete at 5-foot-10, 163 pounds and a standout member of Team Kansas at last summer’s Junior Future Games, Vesey showed the makings of a premier bat in the class. He swung a quick, level right-handed barrel with notable bat speed for his age, averaging 87.4 mph per batted ball with a peak mark of 93.6 mph, flashing next-level impact potential as he continues to mature. On the infield, Vesey displayed athletic actions, comfortability on the move, and arm strength, reaching 85 mph on his firmest throw.

Easton Vesey
+ INF Kellen Sears (Blue Valley Northwest, 2029) has the makings of a premier left-handed bat in the state’s freshman class. A 6-foot-3, 157-pound athlete, Sears already shows feel for using his long levers at the plate, generating a 93.3 mph top exit velocity from a smooth, repeatable left-handed swing, with plenty more to come remaining as he continues to add strength. To wrap up the day, Sears hopped on the mound, running his fastball up to 82 mph while flashing feel for a curveball/changeup mix.
+ C Teddy Lubin (Shawnee Mission East, 2029) continues to show why he is among the top power bats in the state’s freshman class. Lubin impressed throughout his BP round, showing the ability to consistently elevate the ball to the pull side from a compact, repeatable right-handed swing that produces easy power and is set up for success as he reaches the higher levels. He barreled his best ball at 93.8 mph, averaging 87.5 mph per swing. Behind the plate, Lubin’s quick exchange and accurate arm highlight his defensive abilities, posting 1.94–2.05 pop times with a 72 mph arm.
+ RHP/OF Lucas Kamerzell (Blue Valley, 2028) and INF/RHP Isaac Thompson (De Soto, 2028) popped as two-way names to keep an eye on this spring. Kamerzell, a physical 6-foot-2, 208-pound athlete, ran his fastball up to 87 mph on the mound while posting a 95 mph exit velocity at the plate. Thompson worked up to 85 mph on the mound and showed consistency offensively as well, averaging 90.8 mph per batted ball and peaking at 94.6 mph.
MISSOURI FOLLOWS
+ A top-five player in the nation, OF Keelan Zumwalt (Summit Christian, 2028) continued to prove he is the top power bat in the sophomore class in Sunday’s look. The 6-foot-5, 206-pound lefty turned in one of the loudest BP rounds of the preseason, regardless of class, hammering balls to the pull side with a powerful, rhythmic left-handed stroke that stays consistently on time and on the barrel while producing effortless power. Zumwalt posted an event-leading 107.6 mph peak exit velocity, along with a 98.8 mph average and 405-foot max distance, all top marks at the event. Expect fireworks this spring from one of the nation’s premier bats.

Keelan Zumwalt
+ INF/RHP Aidan Nicholson (Liberty, 2028) is one of the top two-way prospects in the state’s sophomore class and continued to show why in this look. A standout last summer at our Central Super Sophomore Games, Nicholson is packed with physicality in a 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame that possesses advanced raw strength for his age. That strength was on full display Sunday as the sophomore posted a 100.1 mph exit velocity, 87 mph infield velocity, and ran his fastball up to 86 mph on the mound while also turning in a 3.90 30-yard dash. Nicholson should be a high follow this spring for one of the Kansas City metro’s top teams.
+ 1B Jagger Jackson (Savannah, 2028) showed the makings of an impact power bat in Sunday’s trip to Kansas City. Stepping into the box at a physical 6-foot-2, 221 pounds, Jackson worked line drives from gap to gap in batting practice from a level, balanced right-handed stroke. A middle-of-the-order profile that shows more polish with each look, the St. Joseph-area native averaged 92.1 mph per batted ball, peaking at 101.2 mph. Jackson also showed defensive feel at first base with confident footwork around the bag and an 88 mph arm to pair.

+ Another sophomore follow from the Liberty-area, INF Theodore Fisher (Liberty North, 2028) showed tools across the board at this event. At a projectable 6-foot-3, 168 pounds, Fisher repeatedly took intentful hacks in BP that produced elevated contact back up the middle of the field, recording a 99.9 mph max exit velocity. He also ran a 3.92 30-yard dash, one of the fastest among the underclassmen in attendance, while his 88 mph top infield velocity ranked among the best marks of the day regardless of class.

+ C Ryder Vincent (Smithville, 2028) is another backstop that showed well in Sunday’s look. Vincent holds easy bat strength in a 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame, averaging 88.4 mph per batted ball with a 98.4 mph max exit velocity without much effort or intent. Behind the plate, Vincent’s arm peaked at 77 mph from the chute and he recorded 1.98–2.08 pop times.
+ Sunday’s event provided another look at one of the premier arms in the state’s sophomore class in RHP Cade Cantrell (Knob Noster, 2028). Plenty athletic and projectable at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Cantrell showed true arm talent and pitchability, pumping his fastball up to 89.2 mph while sitting 85–88 mph from a near sidearm slot and generating upwards of 20 inches of arm-side action. His 71–72 mph slider looks to be a true swing-and-miss weapon, averaging -20.5 inches of horizontal movement with 2,575 RPM spin. He also mixed in a 75–77 mph changeup to round out his arsenal. With the spring and summer seasons approaching, Cantrell will be a must-see arm on the mound.

+ LHP Evan Tucker (Lincoln Prep, 2028) came away as one of the biggest underclass winners on the mound, showing considerable jumps in his metrics across the board. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound multi-sport athlete, who also serves as QB1 on Friday nights in the fall, showed nearly a 10 mph jump in velocity, topping out at 86.9 mph with his fastball while sitting 84–86 mph from a short, low 3/4 arm action. Off the fastball, he landed a 74–76 mph slider and 79–80 mph changeup.
