Nevada - With the 2026 high school season officially underway, it’s time to recognize the standout performances that helped set the tone across the Silver State in the Opening Week.

Each week this spring, we will name an Nevada Player of the Week and Nevada Pitcher of the Week, honoring the top individual performances from around the state. These awards are based entirely on nominations submitted by high school coaches, highlighting the athletes who delivered when it mattered most during game action.

From dominant outings on the mound to explosive performances at the plate, Week 1 brought no shortage of impact performances. Now, it’s time to spotlight the first honorees of the 2026 season.

Foothill senior Steven Alvarado provided the signature moment of the week at Las Vegas High School, lifting the Falcons to a 7-4 walk-off victory over Centennial. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Alvarado cleared the bases and ended the contest with an electric three-run home run to right field. The blast capped off a stellar week for the first baseman, who has been a consistent force in the heart of the Falcons' order, helping them navigate a challenging early slate against some of Nevada's top programs.

Alvarado’s power was on full display throughout the week as he maintained a staggering 1.250 slugging percentage. Following his walk-off heroics, he continued his hot streak against SLAM! Nevada, going 2-for-2 with another home run and a triple. Despite a narrow loss to Boulder City, Alvarado remained a bright spot, recording two hits and a pair of RBIs. He finished the week helping secure a 5-2 win over Reno, cementing his status as one of the most dangerous bats in the Class 5A South-Desert region.
