VENTURA, CALIF. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues after a jam-packed preseason of Prep Baseball California events, winter scrimmage high school baseball, and other opportunities to evaluate players. We will be recognizing some of the top remaining uncommitted players around the state. We will be looking at players from the 2026 and 2027 classes across the upcoming weeks/months as the spring high school season begins to ramp up.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts, both through our in-person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and VALD Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture of what colleges will get when a player steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a strong 2027 player who is coming off a solid sophomore high school season and shone on the Prep Baseball California event platform during the preseason. We are looking at SoCal '27 OF Abraham Ramirez from Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, Calif. A returning varsity starter at Saugus, where he manned RF during his sophomore season, Ramirez was a two-time standout on the scouting trail for me in 2025, including a pair of spectacular defensive plays. He posted a solid overall sophomore campaign, which was backed up by a dynamic showing at the OC Fall ID.

The 2025 spring season was a solid overall year for Ramirez, who played in 30 of the Centurions 31 games, taking 112 plate appearances with 96 official at-bats on the year. He posted a solid slash line in that time with a .292/.375/.427 slash line on the year. Ramirez had a total of 28 hits with eight going for extra bases, including four doubles, three triples, and one home run. His 28 hits were good for second on the team while adding 20 RBIs (third on the team) and scoring 22 runs (fourth on the team). His three triples lead the team, with his 11 BBs on the year tied for fourth on the team. He cleanly fielded 39 opportunities in the air on the year with one OF assist on the season.

With solid in-game performance numbers, the tool set for Ramirez shows that there is potential for even more to come as he keeps developing his in-game profile. Standing at 5'10 175 lbs. Ramirez is solidly built at present, but has room to continue filling out in the coming years. He is a sound athlete who shows a 6.9 60-yard run speed with more in the tank, who efficiently builds speed to cover ground in the OF (3.88 30-yard split and 1.69 10-yard split) with a peak run speed of 20.2 MPH during the OC Fall ID. His arm is solid at present with 84 MPH OF velocities while showing consistent accuracy on his throws to project solid in CF with potential for RF long term as he keeps maturing.

Ramirez demonstrated impressive swing metrics and batted ball data for an offensive profile with upside as he keeps developing. Starting with a higher back elbow and barrel laid flatter behind his head with waggle, Ramirez employs a double toe tap load with intent in the forward move as he reaches launch, ready to fire an explosive swing. He has an aggressive operation with a lofted bat path geared towards generating impact in the air. On Blast Motion, Ramirez produced peak bat speeds north of 80 MPH while averaging over 77 MPH of bat speed throughout his rounds. His hands are quick with 23.9 MPH of peak hand speed with 21+ MPH of average hand speed while creating quality torque in the turn north of 13 Gs at its peak.

The intent in his load and swing operation, combined with a sound feel for his timing/rhythm, helped generate some impressive batted ball metrics during the OC Fall ID event. The RH hitter produces a max EV of 99.8 MPH with a peak batted ball distance of 380' on a loud HR to LCF on the day. The bat speed and intent in his swing generated a 50% hard hit rate and an average launch angle of 22 degrees throughout the round with a 42% fly ball rate trending towards his future power. The overall performance did show some of the polish still needed for Ramirez offensively, and displayed the upside that is housed in his future potential.

Building on a solid sophomore season of stats for Ramirez will be key for his long-term profile while continuing to build the consistency that he gets to his loud offensive tools in-game. The foundation of what Ramirez presents as a collegiate potential player makes him a name that college coaches need to keep tabs on this spring for the 2027 class.

The Saugus product put on eight pounds of muscle since the start of the summer, and the physical gains have clearly translated across his game. Ramirez turned in a 6.92 60-yard dash and posted a 99.8 mph max exit velocity with a max distance of 380 feet, consistently finding barrels during BP with a mix of line drives and deep fly balls. Ramirez’s bat speed (77.3-80.8 mph) and hand speed (up to 23.2 mph) reflect his explosive swing mechanics and growing strength at the plate. Defensively, he showed an accurate 84 mph arm from the outfield, profiling as a CF/RF long-term option. It was an all-around strong showing for Ramirez, who continues to trend upward with a blend of athleticism, power, and polish.

Ramirez is another one who caught my eye on opening day of the 2025 spring season and necessitated a second trip for an extended look.  In that first look, he made a spectacular catch to rob a home run, and in this look continued to show an impact profile as a defender in the OF. He has range with instincts for the ball in the air and plays aggressively, which allows him to run down a ball within his range and take away extra base hits or keep hitters from taking the extra base on balls in the gap or down the line. The arm has shown solid presentability with consistent accuracy on his throws during INF/OF and a pair of in-game throws. Currently playing RF, I could see a future for him and CF with the athleticism and instinct for defense. This second look allowed for a deeper dive into what he does at the plate as an RH hitter. The swing itself is aggressive with quality present, bat speed, and quickness in the turn/hand speed in the operation. It’s a flatter present stroke, geared more for leverage than loft, which should project to a present doubles power profile from line to line. Ramirez is an ambush hitter who attacks early anything in the zone, but he did show an awareness to adjust to spin over the course of the game. The aggressiveness of his approach could lead to some chase against higher-level pitching at present, but athleticism in his profile and ability to polish that approach as he matures have me intrigued with his future offensive potential.
