Notable Recaps from Thursday
Prattville vs. Spain Park
Prattville opened its season with a 10-7 victory over Spain Park on Thursday in a competitive Opening Day matchup. The Lions set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to establish an early lead. Spain Park remained within reach and mounted multiple responses as the game progressed, but Prattville continued to produce offense in the middle innings to keep control of the contest. Despite several late pushes from Spain Park, Prattville was able to preserve the advantage and secure the win to begin the season.
Beauregard vs. Saint James
Saint James and Beauregard played a marathon 16-inning contest Thursday, with Beauregard ultimately securing a 4-3 walk-off victory. Saint James struck first with an early run, but Beauregard responded to even the score in the opening inning before taking a 3-1 lead in the third. Saint James answered in the sixth to tie the game, and the two teams remained locked in a scoreless battle through extra innings. After a lengthy stalemate, Beauregard broke through in the bottom of the 16th to bring the game to a close. Both teams finished with 10 hits, and the game was defined by timely defense and extended, scoreless frames before the decisive final swing.
Thompson vs. Oak Mountain
Thompson opened its season with a 5-1 road win over Oak Mountain on Thursday. The Warriors set the tone early by scoring in the first inning and continued to apply pressure throughout the game, building a steady lead behind consistent offense and strong pitching. Oak Mountain was limited offensively and struggled to generate sustained rallies, while Thompson’s ability to reach base and capitalize on opportunities proved to be the difference. The Warriors controlled the game from start to finish and secured a convincing Opening Day victory.
St. Michael Catholic vs. Gulf Shores
Gulf Shores suffered an 11-9 loss to St. Michael Catholic on Thursday after seeing a seven-run lead slip away late at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex. The Dolphins jumped out early with a big first inning and extended the advantage to 7–0 in the second, putting themselves in control for much of the game. St. Michael Catholic kept within range and then delivered a decisive rally in the seventh, scoring eight runs to flip the game and take the lead for good. Despite Gulf Shores finishing with double-digit hits and applying pressure throughout, the late surge proved to be the difference as St. Michael Catholic completed the comeback victory.
Mobile Christian vs. Baker
Mobile Christian secured a 9-6 win over Baker on Thursday in a game that turned in the middle innings. Mobile Christian opened the scoring in the third, but Baker answered in the fifth with a rally to take a brief 6–4 lead. The momentum shifted quickly in the bottom half of the inning, as Mobile Christian responded with a five-run frame to regain control of the game. Despite Baker finishing with more hits, Mobile Christian capitalized on key moments and held on down the stretch to close out the victory.
Faith Academy vs. Mary G. Montgomery
Faith Academy opened the season with an 11-0 win over MGM on Thursday behind a dominant two-way performance from Brodie Wilson, an Auburn recruit. Wilson set the tone on the mound by tossing a six-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts, allowing no runs and just one walk, and backed it up at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. The Rams struck first in the second inning and added separation in the fifth, when a four-run frame pushed the lead to 8-0, highlighted by Wilson’s two-run homer. Faith Academy finished with nine hits and played clean defense throughout, while MGM was limited offensively and could not generate sustained pressure. With strong pitching, timely hitting, and steady execution across the board, the Rams controlled the game from start to finish and secured a convincing Opening Day victory.
Hazel Green vs. Grissom
Hazel Green earned an 11-5 win over Grissom on Thursday behind a balanced offensive effort and steady production throughout the middle innings. The Trojans opened the scoring in the second and added to their lead in the third to create early separation. Grissom made a late push with a pair of runs in the seventh, but Hazel Green’s consistent pressure on the bases and ability to capitalize on opportunities kept the game in control. With timely scoring and solid work on both sides of the ball, Hazel Green closed out a convincing Opening Day victory.
UMS-Wright Prep vs. Daphne
UMS-Wright Prep earned a 5-3 win over Daphne on Thursday in a back-and-forth contest that was decided in the middle innings. UMS-Wright struck first, but Daphne answered with a two-run second inning and added another run in the third to take a brief lead. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the third with a three-run frame to regain control, turning the momentum back in their favor. From there, UMS-Wright was able to protect the lead and close out the game, while Daphne was unable to mount another late push.
Opelika vs. Stanhope Elmore
Opelika built a six-run advantage by the fourth inning and then held off a late rally to secure a 7-6 win over Stanhope Elmore on Thursday. The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the second inning and continued to add runs in the third and fourth to create separation. Stanhope Elmore responded with a late push, drawing within one run, but Opelika was able to withstand the pressure and close out the game. The contest featured early momentum from Opelika and a strong finish from Stanhope Elmore, setting up a tightly contested finish before the Bulldogs ultimately held on for the victory.
St. Paul's Episcopal vs. Spanish Fort
St. Paul’s Episcopal earned a 12-2 road win over Spanish Fort on Thursday, using early power and steady offense to take control of the game. The Saints struck first in the opening inning and quickly extended the lead with a multi-run frame in the third, creating separation early. Spanish Fort answered with a run in the fifth, but St. Paul’s Episcopal continued to apply pressure at the plate and maintained control throughout. With consistent production, clean defense, and strong pitching, the Saints pulled away and closed out a convincing Opening Day victory.
