2027 National Rankings Spotlight: Grady Cheever

Wisconsin prospects have continued to gain national recognition in recent years. Following last month’s rankings update, 12 players from the Badger State 2027 class earned spots inside the national top-500. Today, we highlight the third highest ranked catcher of the group, Grady Cheever (Germantown, 2027).
Committed to Toledo, Cheever represented Wisconsin at the 2025 Future Games this past summer at LakePoint in Georgia. The catcher is ranked No. 10 in the state's 2027 class, No. 353 nationally, and the No. 40 ranked backstop in the nation.

Future Games 2025: C/INF Grady Cheever (Germantown) was a big winner from the weekend, finishing 4-for-10 across the weekend with three RBIs at the plate. Cheever stands in at 6-foot, 158-pounds and still has plenty of room for added strength. As a switch-hitting catcher, Cheever offers one of the more intriguing skillsets within the class at the plate, and has shown potential at the catching position with his natural actions behind the dish. Currently ranked No. 9 in the 2027 class, Cheever is a well-rounded prospect that had himself a strong overall weekend at the 2025 Future Games.

At the plate showcased a line drive approach with quick hands and developing feel for the barrel. The long, lean and wiry prospect measured in at 6-foot, 158 pounds and is waiting on his frame to fill out in the near future. The switch hitting Cheever showcased his smooth swing from both sides of the plate and barreled up the baseball with authority throughout the round. He impressed with his 97.1 mph max exit velocity with a quick and compact swing. Behind the plate, he showcased a clean arm stroke with accuracy that will continue to add throwing velocity as he continues to fill out. He stands at a long-levered, athletic 6-foot-1, 158-pound frame with plenty of room for physical development. A switch-hitter at the plate, Cheever shows consistent barrel contact and explosiveness through the zone, reaching a max exit velocity of 97 mph. Starting behind the plate for a second straight season and hitting fourth for Germantown. Cheever is one of the top catchers in the area with natural and quiet actions, has caught some of the top arms in the state the past two years with confidence. At the plate, the switch-hitter performed from both sides during this look, collecting hits from both sides, showing feel for the barrel from both sides with growing feel to impact the baseball more consistently.
