Texas Diamond Notes: Week 6

The Texas Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some of the top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday evening of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games.

WEEK 6 DIAMOND NOTES
+ Ben Garcia, P (Frisco Liberty, 2026):
Over two relief appearances during the week, Garcia pitched a combined seven innings, earning a 1-0 record and one hold. He allowed zero runs on three hits and two walks while striking out ten batters. In his first game, he pitched four innings, and in his second game, he pitched three innings, entering between the fourth and seventh innings of a 10-inning game. For the season, he has been effectively used out of the bullpen to pitch twice a week, compiling a 4-1 record with one save, a 1.26 ERA, and a 1.08 WHIP over 27.2 innings pitched, with 20 strikeouts and six walks.
+ Garret Jordan, P (Forney, 2026; Cisco CC commit):
Jordan pitched a five-inning no-hitter on just 78 pitches. He allowed zero runs and one walk while striking out 11 batters.

+ Landon Nerren, P (Woden, 2028):
In a big game against a strong Gary offense, Nerren pitched seven innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out eight batters. For the season, he boasts a 3-1 record with two saves, a 1.14 ERA, and 44 strikeouts over 30.2 innings pitched.
+ Jakson Ortiz, SS/2B (Woden, 2026):
Ortiz went 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting a double, driving in three RBI, and scoring three runs. He also drew two walks, stole two bases, and recorded a hit-by-pitch, bringing his career total to an impressive 52 hit-by-pitches. Notably, he went 2-for-2 with an RBI against Gary and also pitched two scoreless innings on Tuesday, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters. On the season, he is batting .406 with three doubles, one triple, nine RBI, 13 runs scored, nine hit-by-pitches, and seven stolen bases.
+ Trey Rangel, Pitcher (The Colony, 2026; Texas commit):
Rangel pitched an outstanding game against a talented Highland Park team. Over seven innings, he allowed just one earned run on three hits while striking out ten batters.
+ Jack Smejkal, Pitcher (The Woodlands, 2026; Texas commit):
Pitching against Magnolia West, Smejkal threw seven innings, allowing zero runs on just one hit and one walk. He also struck out nine batters.
+ Nick Soto, 1B/DH (Weatherford, 2028):
Soto posted a .625 batting average by going 5-for-8 at the plate, collecting three singles, one double, and one triple. He recorded three RBI, two runs scored, and four walks, notably delivering two clutch two-out hits in games against Rockwall and Waxahachie.
