Last week featured a great DH match-up between 2 teams in the Top 10 of the Washington Power 25 with visiting Kennewick heading over to Richland. Ultimately it was a split 1-1 with Richland taking the opener by a score of 4-2 and then Kennewick prevailing in the next game 6-2. Both squads flexed their strengths and cemented themselves as contenders for their respective classifications.

KENNEWICK VS RICHLAND (3.27.28)

KENNEWICK

First for the visitors Kennewick, on the mound they started G1 with ‘26 INF/P Trayce Teagle (Walla Walla CC). Teagle logged all 6 innings in the contest allowing only 2 ER on 7 H, 2 BB and racked up 5 K. The athletic righty mixes a 3 pitch arsenal with a FB he commands at 80-84. Works quick and attacks the zone throughout. It’s a steady mix and he showed the ability to lean on his secondary offerings in big spots as the game went on. Has the look of a dependable, experienced innings eater.

In G2, Kennewick went to uncommitted ‘26 OF/LHP Dylan Mamiya. One of the stronger pound for pound athletes in the class. Mamiya relies mostly on his FB/CB combo and holds low 80s velocity throughout. Works to both sides of the plate and can generate some cut when workout to his glove side or ‘in’ on a RHH. The CB can have big shape at times but he also showed ability to manipulate it and tighten up the bend with more velocity. Can be especially tough on LHH at times. Went 5 innings allowing only 1 ER on 4 H, 2 BB and added 4 K.

The only other arm Kennewick turned to was ‘26 OF/P Brady Mattson. The Columbia Basin commit was sharp in 2 innings. Didn’t allow a run on 2 H and had 3 K. FB sat 82-84 and topped 85. Used a sharp 11/5 CB with tight spin and depth as his main secondary.

Offensively it was a pretty balanced attack from the Lions 1 thru 9. They string together tough ABs with a team-centric approach and can capitalize on miscues or freebies with their small ball execution and 2-strike hitting ability. ‘27 C Bradley Parker led the way with 4 total hits between the 2 games. ‘26 OF/P Brady Mattson (Columbia Basin) added 3 hits of his own and showed impressive barrel control with contact to all fields.

‘26 Chase Taylor (MSU Billings) tallied 3 hits and is one of several experienced seniors who return from impactful roles last year. In the night cap, ‘27 Bren Woods delivered a big pinch hit 2 RBI single to help extend their lead and was arguably the most impactful hit for Kennewick on the day. 2 other seniors to watch the rest of the way this spring on offense would be the aforementioned Mamiya as well as ‘26 3B Dominic Driver (Columbia Basin). Both are anchors in the top half of the line-up who contributed hits on the night.

RICHLAND

For the home squad Richland, the Bombers feature arguably the most dynamic 1-2 punch at the top of their rotation with ‘26 RHP Deegan Quesenberry (Washington) and ‘26 RHP Michael Revell (Grand Canyon)

Quesenberry got the start in G1 and flashed premium stuff when at his best. The FB ranged 87-90 and topped at 91 from a ¾ slot with some heavier life. He paired it with a sharp SL at 73-75 that improved as the game went on and an occasional CH at 79-80. The Washington commit struck out 5 in 4.1 IP while allowing 1 ER on 5 H and 2 BB.

After that in G1 we had a look at uncommitted ‘27 RHP Ben Thompson. The physical righty was electric early with a FB at 86-88 and hard SL at 73-75. The command wavered a bit in his 2nd inning but the talent and upside was still noticeable. Definitely an arm to watch in the class.

Richland turned to ‘26 OF/P Braylon Edwards (Mt. Hood) for the final out in G1 and he escaped a huge bases loaded jam to secure the save.

Richland used 4 total arms in G2 with Revell being the headliner. Although he worked through some command woes, the pure stuff was undeniable. The FB touched 93 and ranged 88-92. The CB is significantly improved and features late bite and lateral action at 74-77. Finished with a final line of 4.2 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10 K.

The Bomber offense is similar to Kennewick’s with the amount of depth and experienced bats they can throw at you.

Uncommitted juniors INF Dylan Parrott, INF Dominic Harper and OF Parker Smoot all contributed multiple hits across the 2 games. Parrott leads the way at the top of the line-up with a mature, contact approach and a quick barrel. Harper has a keen eye at the plate and showed consistent bat to ball skills. Lifted one of the harder hit balls on the night into the RCF gap late in G2, showing the power potential from the left-side. Smoot has a scrappy approach at the dish and put together consistent hard contact, especially in G2.

Lastly, ‘26 Jaren Lee (Pacific) put together quality ABs and had a multi-hit game in the opener with a 2B and RBI. Has the power to split the backside gap and also got his barrel out front for a RBI single into RF. Mature hitter.
