North Carolina Class of 2028: Preseason Rankings Update
The latest update to the North Carolina Class of 2028 Rankings follows a busy and productive preseason, where players across the state had opportunities to be evaluated in detail through Preseason ID events and Preseason All-State showcases. These events allowed our scouting staff to gather updated data, refine evaluations, and ultimately adjust player grades across the class.
As always, the rankings process begins with individual player evaluations, built on live looks, measurable data, and long-term projection. Those grades are then compiled and sorted to form the updated rankings. With this release, the rankings expand by 35 players, now reaching the Top 200 players in North Carolina.
The work is far from complete. Our scouting staff is actively covering games throughout the spring, continuing to identify new talent while refining existing evaluations. The spring and early summer will be critical for the 2028 class, as players compete for spots on prestigious rosters such as the Future Games and the Tobacco Road State Games.
RISERS
Sean Rodesiler (LHP, Davidson Day) — No. 8 → No. 4
Rodesiler continues to trend upward as one of the premier arms in the class. The left-hander has added strength to a highly projectable frame, and the combination of present stuff and future ceiling continues to separate him. A strong showing at the Preseason All-State South reinforced his status as one of the top prospects in North Carolina.
Parker Williams (RHP, North Lincoln) — No. 26 → No. 13
Williams has made significant strides since his performance at the Super Sophomore Games. Improved strength and increased hip mobility have unlocked more arm speed, with the fastball now touching 90 mph with life through the zone. His athleticism and remaining projection make him one of the more intriguing arms in the class. He stood out at the Preseason All-State West.
Grayson Broadway (LHP) — No. 126 → No. 16
Broadway made one of the biggest jumps in the update. Previously limited by a lack of detailed evaluations, his performance at the Preseason All-State South gave the staff a much clearer look at his ability. A physical left-hander with big arm strength, Broadway’s updated grade reflects both his present stuff and long-term upside.
NEWCOMERS
Chase White (RHP/C), South Central HS
White was one of the biggest winners at the Preseason All-State East. His arm strength stood out immediately during catcher workouts and translated to the mound with a fastball showing ride through the zone and a breaking ball with sharp, late depth. While he shows two-way potential, his current profile leans toward the mound.
Will Matthews (OF), Leesville Rd HS
Matthews impressed at the Raleigh Preseason ID with a strong, durable frame and solid quickness. The bat shows strength at contact with a developing feel for the barrel. As his lateral quickness continues to improve, there is clear room for his overall profile—and ranking—to climb.
Lucas Barga (C), Lake Norman Charter
At 5-foot-8, 165 pounds, Barga turned in a highly productive workout at the Preseason All-State South, filling up the stat sheet. While his long-term ceiling may be more modest, his present strength, quickness, and ability to handle the catching position give him a chance to provide early impact.
