#6 Bishop O'Connell 21, Episcopal 1

On a ridiculously cold afternoon in Arlington, #6 Bishop O’Connell obliterated Episcopal by a score of 21-1. The scoring started for DJO in the first inning when East Carolina commit Jack Woda hit a two-run liner out of right field to get the Knights on the board. After that, O’Connell would never look back. Woda would finish 3-3 with a homerun, three runs, and four RBI. Joining him as an offensive leader was fellow senior Chaz Walker. Walker scored three runs of his own and also drove in three. Junior Lucas Grubb had a double and scored three runs on the day. The Knights used three arms, allowing one unearned run, one hit, and struck out thirteen Episcopal hitters. #6 O’Connell moves to 4-0 after this rout.

Hanover 5, Caroline 2

Early on, it was a pitching duel between 2026 Brayden Shreffler for Hanover and 2026 Coby Southworth (Methodist) for Caroline. Hanover finally was able to break the scoreless tie in the 4th after a defensive miscue and then a passed ball.  Later in the game, as the pitch counts started stacking up, runs were easier to come by. Hanover’s 2026 Grayson Reece (Hagerstown CC) delivered the lone extra-base barrel in the game with an RBI triple to right-center field. In the end, Hanover was able to maintain control and secure the win by a score of 5-2.

Kellam 8, First Colonial 6

The Knights had some early offensive production early with '27 Mason Hanly having a three run home run in the first inning. '26 Garrett Simon (Hampden-Sydney) threw five strong innings on the mound getting the win for the Knights. '28 Daniel Leyva tried to lead the comeback effort for First Colonial as he cut down the lead with a two run home run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Knights held the Patriots to a quick seventh inning to seal the two run win.

Collegiate 7, Douglas Freeman 0

Another cold early season day in Richmond featured a juicy private school versus public school matchup between Douglas Freeman and Collegiate. From the very beginning, it was all Collegiate. 2027 Sam Settar got the scoring started in a four run first inning by sending a two RBI double into right center and the Cougars never looked back from there. On the mound, Collegiate pitched four different guys in a bullpen game and were able to completely shut down the Freeman offense. It was all Collegiate from start to finish, winning handily by a score of 7-0.

#19 Northside 15, Cave Spring 1

Wednesday saw a chilly early season contest between #19 Northside and Cave Spring. There was plenty of offense for the Vikings, as Evan Bruce (Hampden-Sydney) and Brett Taylor drove in 7 of the team's 15 runs. Bruce was 3-4 on the day with a double and HR. Taylor chipped in with 3 hits himself. Camden Spangler drove in another 2 runs in the later innings.

Oakton 4, West Potomac 1

Oakton took a cold, early season contest against West Potomac 4-1. Oakton’s ‘27 Logan Thompson was terrific on the bump, tossing five scoreless frames. ‘26 Dawson Givens shut the door behind Thompson to earn the save. Oakton’s offense jumped off the gate early with some effective small ball. ‘26 Gordon Cozad opened the scoring with a deep sac fly. After Oakton’s early success, West Potomac’s ‘26 Barrett Baker (Drew) and ‘26 Silas Scheel kept Oakton hitters silent for the rest of the contest.

Patriot 14, North Stafford 1

On a chilly evening in Nokesville, Patriot hosted North Stafford as the two kicked off their 2026 seasons. Patriot junior Sam Capuano (Youngstown State) tossed 3 innings of 1-hit ball with 7 strikeouts in the start for the Pioneers and the offense backed him up with a 5-run 2-out rally in the first inning and adding 4 more runs in the second inning. Junior DH Cole Francis had a 2-RBI single to break the game open in the first and ultimately went 2-2 in the game. Senior Jacob Peacher was also 2-2 with 2 RBI.

Stone Bridge 12, Dominion 1

Outside of a leadoff homerun for Dominion’s Jaden Beyer (Marymount), this one was all Stone Bridge. The Bulldogs would use two big innings, scoring four in the second and eight in the fifth, to put Dominion away in quick order on opening night. Leading the way offensively for Stone Bridge was Nicholas Rock (Roanoke), Daniel House, Owen Hayes, and Brody Pratt. Pratt would cap things off with a grand slam in the top of the fifth, to push the lead to 12-1 and finish this one off. Matthew Belger (Longwood) gets his first win of the year, going four innings, striking out nine, allowing one hit and one run.

EC Glass 7, Dan River 1

Down south, Dan River kicked off the 2026 season playing host to E.C. Glass. The first few innings went quickly with E.C. Glass’s Junior Levi Guridy striking out the side in each of the first 2 innings. Both offenses then started to come alive, led by Glass ‘26 Tyler Ruhl (VMI), who had back-to-back standup doubles, but neither team could push a run across. E.C. Glass finally broke through in the 5th inning after a double by ‘26 Lucas Wooldridge led to him and a second run scoring on an error. Glass would go on to extend their lead in the sixth, taking advantage of few walks and errors. The Hilltoppers secured their first regular season win with a score of 7-1 over the Wildcats.

Spotswood 6, Albemarle 0

The defending Class 3 State Champions took opening day with ease after a dominating start to 2026 for Tyler Howard. The sophomore right hander turned in 6.1 IP, allowed three scattered singles, struck out ten, and threw 72% strikes just days after being under the weather. He also helped his own cause with a RBI double in the middle innings. While Howard did not need much offensive help, Landon Buracker, Cam Blank (Liberty), and Kade Carrier all had multi-hit games. Buracker also contributed two stolen bases on the day. Carrier started the scoring with a 2-RBI single in the first and that is all that the Blazers would need.
