VHSL Class 6 Previews: Region A
Cosby Titans
2025 Record: 12-6-1
The Titans lost some key pieces from 2025 in Greer Cabanban (Hampden-Sydney), Stephen Hawkins, and Michael Williams (Louisburg) that had plenty of experience on the varsity level. In 2026 roles will be bigger for some returning players, and that will dictate how far this team goes. Blake LaMattina (JMU) is going to be key for the Titans as an impact bat in the heart of the order and as the frontline arm. Nathen Hock, Matthew Scoby, and Tyler Tapscott (Mary Washington) return for their senior season, adding to the experience for this team. The mound depth and the offensive production will need to be answered if they want to make a run in the region.

Grassfield Grizzlies
2025 Record: 16-7
The Grizzlies were one game short of making a state tournament appearance in 2025. They return some important pieces that could help generate a state title run. Giacomo Franco (Richmond) is a two-way standout who will be important on both sides this spring. BJ McIntyre (VCU) returns to the lineup and could be a big difference maker to this offense. Ayden Farris (Regent), Cayden McBride (Concordia), Joshua Nelson, and Hayden Roach are other returners that add depth to this offense. Joel Flynn (Regent) and Logan Shaw return to the mound, with Franco adding to the rotation. Bryce Edick (Maryland) can be a difference maker as one of the top arms for this staff to take the mound in the big games. There is arm talent on this team, and if they can get quality outings and run support, then they can make a run in the region.

Landstown Eagles
2025 Record: 13-7
There will be a lot of turnover with a strong group of seniors in 2025. Trey Campos (JMU), George Chevalier (VMI), Kyle Flora (Lynchburg), Jordan Hunt (Regent), Colin Kim (Ferrum), and Cam Tellefsen (ODU) were big contributors, and their production will need to be replaced. Ethyn Edwards and Aidan Ross (Chowan) are the top two returning arms to this staff. Dawson Hogan (Paul D. Camp) is a senior that returns to the lineup and could see more action on the mound this spring. There is a lot of offensive production to replace, so some new faces will have to step into bigger roles to make a run in the region.

Manchester Lancers
2025 Record: 9-10-1
The Lancers didn’t meet expectations in 2025 and look to right the ship in 2026. Judah Parks (Lynchburg) returns as the frontline arm in 2026 after logging 45 innings last season. Landon Anderson and Noah Lourinia had a small sample size of mound time in 2025 but are prime candidates to step into bigger roles in 2026. Asher Blalock (Mary Washington) and Easton Butts (Lynchburg) are the top two bats returning, who both batted a ridiculous .466 and .460 on the year. Having those two bats at the top of the order with a promising Anderson will be key. Finding offensive depth around those three will be important if they want to make a run in the region.

Thomas Dale Knights
2025 Record: 10-11
There are key pieces to replace in Owen Klimek and Caden Stancil, who were the biggest contributors on the mound and offensively. Austin Johnson and Peyton Puryear are seniors that could step into bigger roles and help replace that production. Jordan Brown, Joshua Pooler, and Garrett Spears (Richard Bland) will need to take that next step in offensive production to give the pitching staff the run support that is needed. There are a lot of questions that will need to be answered throughout the season and that will determine how successful this team will be.

Western Branch Bruins
2025 Record: 17-6
It was a strong season for the Bruins in 2025, but they fell short of a state tournament appearance with an upset in the region semifinals. They lost some key seniors who were productive in Logan Adams (CNU), Eli Carroll (Lynchburg), Zach Kincaid (Virginia Wesleyan), Miles Melescu (VMI), and Jakson Walter (Bridgewater). They do have some production returning for 2026. Colin Biernot, Dino Juguilon (Virginia Wesleyan), Frankie Juguilon, Max McEwen (Apprentice), Markel Smith (Longwood), Wilson Tone, and Carter Walter all return, giving plenty of offensive depth. Ian Taylor led the team with 67 innings on the year, returning as the frontline arm. Ryan Waddell had a small sample size on the mound last spring and could be the next up behind Taylor on the mound. This is a veteran group with talent that is a definite threat in the region.
