Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC)

Bishop McNamara Mustangs

2025 Record: 6-15

An improvement for the Mustangs in 2025 has Bishop McNamara poised to stack some more wins this spring in 2026. Positionally, McNamara returns a bulk of their lineup from a year ago and features one of the more experienced and senior-led lineups across the entire WCAC. The 2-5 hitters are all back, as seniors Kamryn Knott, Willis Coppedge, Antonio Fleites, and Ashton Strobridge all return and should solidify the middle of the order once again in 2026, and look for fellow seniors Tre Shepherd and Corey Schmick to add some experienced depth throughout the lineup. Look for some added quality AB’s from a special two-way sophomore in Carter Johnson; an uber-athletic infielder.

On the bump, the Mustangs will return a slew of impact arms from a year ago, led by senior Antonio Fleites. Behind Fleites, fellow senior Matthew Arzoumanian should add some depth on the backend, as junior Sanjay Chellia and sophomores Marley Bridgers and Carter Johnson look to add some more prominent innings on the bump in 2026.

This Mustangs team is poised for a much better spring, and the experience of their senior leaders on both sides of the ball certainly looks to propel McNamara to new heights in 2026.

DeMatha Catholic Stags

2025 Record: 17-10

DeMatha Catholic is a perennial powerhouse in the WCAC, and a different looking Stags team in 2026 provides plenty of opportunities for some fresh faces to make an impact on both sides of the ball. Each year, teams have to fill holes left behind from graduating seniors, and the Stags are no different, as impact players like Bud Coombs, Brooks Franklin, Bryce Palms, Wes Hall, Gabriel Chapman, Matthew Calabrese, Luke Brabazon, and Michael Candy have all graduated and were huge pieces to this Stags team a year ago.

A fairly young squad in 2026, look for some senior leadership offensively from Robert Schilling and Shane Ladia, followed by their physical junior backstop in Franklin Zerpa. The sophomores and juniors will have to make a big jump this spring, and look for junior infielder Zach Perlin to be a leader this spring, with the likes of some intriguing sophomores looking to make an impact in CJ Parrott, James Johnson Jr, and Blake Wentworth.

On the bump, the Stags lose 8 of 10 arms from a year ago to graduation and will need some young bucks to fill voids throughout the rotation. Strong at the top, look for a junior tandem in Ben Brown and Grayson Candy to have big years and lead by example for some of the younger underclassmen vying to fill roles.

Good Counsel Falcons

2025 Record: 20-11

Coach Ballance has done a phenomenal job in his short tenure thus far with the Falcons, and 2026 may just be the year that Good Counsel makes a serious run at a WCAC title. Balance on both sides of the ball with experienced leadership at the dish and on the bump, our staff is highly intrigued to see a breakout spring in 2026.

At the plate, the Falcons will be led by a slew of senior and junior bats, with the likes of Evan Markovitz, Jonathan Robinson, Brendan Spivock, Andrew Bezak, and Ryan Noll. Look for a highly talented sophomore class to provide some quality ab’s as well, as Chase Gasque, Aiden DelGandio, and Brady McNatt have made a huge impression on our staff and look to continue their rising stock this spring. An experienced and talented lineup should bode well against a highly competitive conference.

Possessing one of the deepest and talent-filled pitching staffs in the conference, Coach Ballance has the luxury of turning the ball over to a slew of quality arms, led by seniors Andrew Kirk, Ryan Martin, Brady Lowman, Evan Markovitz and Jonathan Robinson. Juniors Santiago Bundy-Garcia and Andrew Bezak also have plenty of talent on the bump and could see some important innings as we get deeper into the spring.

St. Mary's Ryken Knights

2025 Record: 16-16

An exciting spring is on the horizon for Ryken, as they return a plethora of impact bats and arm from a year ago, with some more production from one of the top 2028’s in the state in sophomore MacGuire Moore poised for a breakout spring.

Offensively, seniors Austin Michael and Lucas Sigafoose look to be their usual explosive selves at the top of this lineup, with the likes of Moore and junior Henry Moltumyr leading the charge in depth in the middle. The losses of Jason Gregory, AJ Stefko, and Donovan Brown to graduation certainly provide a sting throughout this lineup, so look for young bucks led by MacGuire Moore to pick up the slack and provide some depth.

On the pitching side, junior Henry Moltumyr will lead the charge, with senior Austin Michael and Dillon Brown providing some well-needed innings on the backend. The difference-maker will be MacGuire Moore, as the standout two-way sophomore looks to sky-rocket his stock as being a true two-way this spring, and if Ryken looks ot be successful throughout this conference, they will need Moore to be as advertised.

The Heights School Cavaliers

2025 Record: 9-16-1

The Cavaliers enter the 2026 spring with some experience on both sides of the ball, led by big 6-foot-7 two-way in Sam Reed. The 2026 Future Games alum will be a catalyst for The Heights School on both sides of the ball and look for a breakout spring from Reed on the bump.

Following Reed, look for senior James Mraz to add some impact behind the dish, with the likes of Michael Shawkey and Patrick Watson to add key depth throughout the lineup. Junior standout William Lepre is back and should add thump in the middle of the order, as sophomore Luke Shepard looks to provide a larger impact offensively this spring.

On the bump, it’s going to be led by Sam Reed with some senior leadership to follow in Jackson McDonnell and Tommy VanOrsdel. Reed will be able to go toe-to-toe with any arm in this conference, and look for McDonnell and VanOrsdel to add some depth behind him.
