The 2026 VA/DC high school season fully and officially kicked off on March 16th. We begin our weekly awards for a couple different areas, including today's featured Team of the Week. Team of the Week will run each and every Tuesday. This story will highlight a team that had a strong week, which usually includes at least one win over a Power 25/quality opponent.

Week 1 Team of the Week: St. Anne's Belfield
Week 2 Team of the Week: Oakton Cougars
Week 3 Team of the Week: Independence Tigers

Week 4 Team of the Week: Walsingham Trojans

 

Walsingham ran off a 4-0 record last week while in Myrtle Beach, winning all four games by at least five runs. The Trojans saw contributions from a variety of players, including Corey Overmeyer, Anthony Ferrie (Methodist), Andrew Cole (Randolph-Macon), Matthew Swanson (JMU), and Chandler Howlett (VMI). Swanson and Overmeyer were arguably the two most consistent producers, with Overmeyer running two balls out versus Russell and Swanson had multiple multi-hit games. Swanson was also strong on the mound, throwing five innings and striking out twelve in what ended up being a complete game shutout. In addition to Swanson's strong outing on the mound, Luke Rains started the week with a seven innings, complete game shutout. He only needed 75 pitches to get through the full seven innings, throwing 65% strikes. Walsingham has another four game week, with Nansemond-Suffolk being their biggest game of the week on Tuesday.
