Each week, our staff updates the Power 25 and provides key talking points from last week's games. This week, we see a new number one with plenty of movement throughout, as one new team jumps inside the top 25.
Talking Points
- Mount St. Joseph takes over No. 1. The Gaels prevail with a 2-1 series win over previous No. 1, Archbishop Spalding. A highly competitive series saw MSJ only outscore Spalding 21-20 over the three-game series.
- Chesapeake-AA and Urbana lead the public school charge. Chesapeake has won 7 consecutive, while Urbana continues to pick up quality wins week after week.
- Hereford jumps into the mix. The Bulls have won five straight and sit at 9-1 on the season, as they see a jump inside the Top 25 at No. 23.
Winners
- Mount St. Joseph has cemented themselves as a top team across the state, and with a series win over Spalding, the Gaels have put themselves in a spot to run the table from here on out.
- Georgetown Prep has won five consecutive games and look to be playing their best baseball of the season. A key two-game series this week against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, followed by a matchup with Archbishop Spalding on Saturday see another highly competitive week for the Hoyas.
- Stephen Decatur held strong last week in games they were favored in, staying undefeated at 9-0 this spring.
- Broadneck has turned it on following their loss to Urbana in early April, as the Bruins have won four straight and sit at 8-2 this spring.
- Crofton continues to prove their worth, as the Cardinals sit at 9-1 on the season following another undefeated week last week.
- The Swarmin Hornets have won five straight, including a huge win over Sherwood last week. Damascus now sits at 8-3 on the season and jumps up six spots in this update.
Seeking Improvement
- Archbishop Spalding looks to rebound following a series loss to MSJ last week. Another key conference matchup with Archbishop Curley will look to get Spalding back on track.
- Walter Johnson fell to an unranked, yet highly talented Magruder team last week. It doesn't get any easier for the Wildcats this week, as matchups with Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Wootton, and Churchill are lined up.
- Landon got swept in their two-game set with St. Albans last week, and had every opportunity to take both games. The Bears will look to right the ship this week with another set of conference games.
