Game Recaps

Herndon 7, Princess Anne 2

A flurry of Princess Anne errors in the first inning opened it up for Herndon. The Hornets capitalized on three Cavs miscues and added three singles to put up a four spot in the top of the first. Matthew St. Clair would deliver a 2 RBI single in the fourth, but that would be about all of the offense Princess Anne would be able to scrape together. Chase Brown had big hits in the third and seventh to extend the Hornets' lead. Max Tiboni, Noah Wantuck, Chase Brown, and Jacob Park all contributed with multi-hit days, while the pitching staff combined to allow just four hits, two earned runs, and struck out nine total Cavaliers on the day.

St. John Paul the Great 3, Smith Mountain Lake Christian 2

This game was dominated by pitching, as this game would remain scoreless through the fifth. In the sixth inning SMLCA would strike first with a Brody Edwards two run single, but SJPG would answer back with two of their own in the bottom half. James Fuller singled to right field, scoring two and tying the game up. There would be no more scoring until the bottom of the tenth when St. John Paul the Great would walk it off on a Alejandro Sanchez single. Sanchez had three hits in this game, including a double and the game winning single. SMLCA's Peyton Conley struck out ten over 5.1 IP and SJPG's Elijah Thompson had ten of his own over the course of his 9 IP.

St. John Paul the Great 3, Grafton 8

The Clippers put up seven runs in the first three innings, which would be a deficit too large for the Wolves to recover from. After a runner scored on a passed ball, Cooper Bush (Charleston-WV) singled home a run in the first, Dakota Jackson tripled home another in the second, and the Clippers were up 4-0 after two. Evan Cruea (Roanoke) would triple to lead off the third, and he would also score on that same play via an error. The Clippers would continue their onslaught of runs, making it 7-0 by the end of the inning. SJPG would scratch a run in the fourth, sixth, and seventh, but they were unable to put together the big inning needed to make a comeback. Cooper Bush was 3-4 on the day and joining him in the multi-hit category was Riley Brelsford and Dakota Jackson. The only Wolves player to register multiple hits was one of the biggest standouts of the day, Alejandro Sanchez.

Broadway 8, Smith Mountain Lake Christian 2

The Gobblers of Broadway HS jumped out to an early 3-0 lead courtesy of a Jayce Suters homerun. Broadway would tack one on in the third and then extend the lead even more in the top of both the fifth and sixth innings. SMLCA would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a Ryan Canipe (Mary Baldwin) double that would plate two. The Gobblers had three players with multiple hits on the day, highlighted by Mason Caplinger delivering a double and a triple on the day. Colby Fesler threw six innings of four hit ball and struck out nine along the way.
