Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week: Week 2

Each week during the high school season, we will recognize the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for standout performances across the state. Throughout the season, numerous athletes continue to post impressive numbers both at the plate and on the mound. Based on nominations submitted by high school coaches statewide, one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week will be selected. A special thank you to Mizuno for sponsoring these awards throughout the season.

Let's take a look at the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 2 of the 2026 spring season.

MIZUNO PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Rhett Hayes 3B / RHP / Giles County High School, TN / 2027

Rhett Hayes (Giles County) put together an outstanding all-around performance to earn Tennessee Player of the Week honors for Week 2. Hayes hit .636 with a .714 on-base percentage and 1.896 OPS, tallying seven hits, including two doubles and two triples, while driving in 10 runs and scoring six. He also added three walks and a stolen base, finishing with a 1.182 slugging percentage. Hayes contributed on the mound as well, earning a win after throwing three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with one walk while striking out six.

MIZUNO PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Leiton Yancer RHP / OF / Coffee County Central High School, TN / 2027

Leiton Yancer (Coffee County) earned Tennessee Pitcher of the Week honors for Week 2 after a dominant outing on the mound. Yancer tossed a complete-game shutout, working 7 innings while allowing no runs, striking out seven, and issuing no walks. He consistently attacked the strike zone, throwing 70% strikes and keeping hitters off balance throughout the start, leading Coffee County to the win.
