Class 7A-1A Top-10 Polls: Week 1 Edition

ALABAMA - One week into the 2026 high school baseball season, the early landscape across Alabama is beginning to take shape.

Opening Week action throughout the state, along with a highly competitive field at the Prep Baseball Alabama Kickoff Classic, provided an initial benchmark for several classifications. While the sample size remains limited, the level of competition offered enough data points to justify adjustments in this week’s update.

As teams continue to settle into the rhythm of the season, early results have already created separation in some areas, while other classifications remain tightly contested.

Below are the updated Class 7A-1A Top 10 rankings entering Week 2, along with teams on the bubble and weekly notes from the opening stretch of play.

Weekly Notes & Updates:

  • Hoover remains at the top after a strong opening week, picking up two wins over ranked James Clemens. The Buccaneers’ lone loss came in a narrow 6-5 contest against The Bennett School.
  • Defending champion Tuscaloosa County is off to an impressive 8-0 start, highlighted by Kickoff Classic wins over Bob Jones, Central-Phenix City, and Pell City.
  • Bob Jones opened the season 6-2, with losses coming to Tuscaloosa County and IMG Academy (1-0). The Patriots earned two quality wins over Thompson during the week.
  • Thompson sits at 4-3, with notable wins over Oak Mountain, Helena, and The First Academy. Two of their losses came against Bob Jones.
  • Hewitt-Trussville has started 5-0, including a key win over James Clemens, while Vestavia Hills also remains unbeaten at 5-0.
  • Auburn is off to a 6-1 start, with its only loss coming in a tightly contested 1-0 game against nationally-ranked Venice (FL).
  • State runner-up Enterprise stands at 7-0 after a strong week, capped by a 10-2 win over Prattville.
  • Oak Mountain enters the poll after a 5-3 start, highlighted by an impressive 12-2 win over Parkview (GA).
  • James Clemens rounds out the Top 10 at 4-3, with two of its losses coming against No. 1 Hoover.
  • Central-Phenix City, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, and Prattville are among the teams just outside the poll following competitive Week 1 showings.

  • Chelsea and Mountain Brook each move up one spot. Chelsea went 2-1 at the Kickoff Classic and added a notable win over American Christian, while Mountain Brook’s only loss came in an 8-6 contest against Presbyterian Christian.
  • Northridge is one of the biggest risers after a 7-0 start. The Jaguars went 3-0 at the Kickoff Classic and followed it up with a 4-0 showing at the LaGrange Invitational, capturing the LaGrange Invitiational Championship.
  • Hazel Green also made a significant jump, beginning the year 7-2 with wins over Oak Mountain, Hartselle, Northside, and Oxford.
  • Hartselle slides from the top spot to No. 7 after a 3-5 start but remains a team capable of rebounding as the season progresses.
  • Saraland and Pell City hold steady in this week’s poll after solid opening stretches.
  • Pelham is the lone newcomer to the Top 10, opening the season 5-0 and capping the week with a walk-off win on Saturday.

  • St. Paul’s Episcopal opened the year 4-0, powered by four home runs from John Stowers in four games.
  • Northside went 1-2 in a competitive field at the Kickoff Classic before responding with quality wins later in the week.
  • Faith Academy started 3-0 before dropping three tightly contested out-of-state games over the weekend.
  • Briarwood Christian moves up one spot to 5-1, with its lone loss coming to Spain Park and notable wins over Oxford and Springville.
  • Demopolis slides one spot to 5-3, with all three losses coming against 6A or 7A competition.
  • Mobile Christian makes a significant jump into the poll at No. 7 after a 5-1 start. The Leopards’ only loss was a 7-5 game to 7A Opelika, and they hold wins over Baker, Russellville, and Smiths Station.
  • Shelby County also enters the poll at 5-1, highlighted by wins over Saraland and Orange Beach. The Wildcats’ lone loss came against 7A runner-up Enterprise.
  • UMS-Wright Prep drops one spot after a 3-2 week but owns wins over Hueytown and Dothan.
  • Springville remains at No. 10 with a 4-2 start, including a loss to Briarwood Christian.
