Prep Baseball Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week: Brett Paulsen

By: Josh Fields
Assistant Scouting Director, Wisconsin

A perfect game.

Senior left-hander Brett Paulsen (Kewaunee) broke out as a must-know prospect in the state’s senior class during Kewaunee’s state runner up finish at last spring’s WIAA State Finals. Long been an impactful two-way presence inside the Storm lineup and was no short of outstanding in his first appearance on the mound this spring. Tossing a seven-inning perfect game, striking out 19 of the 21 batters he faced across the outing. For his efforts, Paulsen has been named this week’s Pitcher of the Week.

The Wisconsin-Parkside commit struck out 17 consecutive batters, 10 swinging Ks, to start the outing, attacking early in the count and recording 17 first pitch strikes of the 21 batters that came to the plate. Also going 2-4 with two RBIs at the plate at the leadoff hitter, helping out his cause on the mound.

Paulsen is a dynamic and hard throwing left-hander with a swing-and-miss breaking ball that remains a priority follow as he heads off to the collegiate level due to the volume of strikes and the ceiling of the breaking ball as a potential swing and miss weapon moving forward. A more than capable bat at the next level to pair as well, with a strong barrel from the left-side.

Scouting Report

7/17/25

Uncommitted. A lean, long-limbed, 6-foot, 195-pound frame, Paulsen gave one of the most interesting outings of the weekend. Working with a three-pitch mix, the fastball was sitting 85-87 mph; 2400-2500 RPM, the slider was 78-80 mph; 2500-2600, and the change-up was 66-70 mph. An easy mover on the mound, with a drop and drive motion, with quick short-arm action from the ¾ slot. Although a short appearance, Paulsen flashed some of the best stuff of the tournament and is a must-know throughout the state of Wisconsin class of 2026.

We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
