Wisconsin Rankings Class of 2028: Update

With the WIAA regular season now complete, we're revisiting Wisconsin's 2028 rankings following another spring of evaluations from around the state. While this update brings only minor adjustments to the board, it serves as another checkpoint for a class that continues to show promising depth and upside.

Inside this update, we break down 17 players who made marginal jumps, highlighting prospects our staff was eager to evaluate further in live competition this spring. Read below as we take a deeper dive into the updated 2028 rankings and the standout performers shaping this talented group.

TOP-25 RISERS

Tate Hagen, MIF, Lake Country Lutheran: Slides inside the top-10 as the athletic two-way continues to look more and more like an impact middle infielder at the next level. Clean right-handed swing with some impact in that he continues to tap into. The defense looks the part at short and has a chance to stick at the spot long-term with added footspeed, making him an even bigger asset at the position. Also an athletic arm on the mound with advanced velocity and feel for four pitches.

Cole Pettijohn, INF, East Troy: The tools are advanced in the class and the bat continues to perform across our looks with minimal swing and miss while looking the part as a defender in the dirt at the next level with feel to play the left-side and arm strength to stick on that side of the field.

Nicky Vitucci, RHP, Whitefish Bay: Continues to perform like one of the top pitchability right-handers in the state with advanced feel for multiple pitches. Athletic quick arm with feel to repeat and simple and balanced delivery down the mound and more to come from a velocity standout as he fills into his frame. Feel for both secondaries standout with the ability to both spin and kill spin.

Malachi Schoonover, LHP/CF, Janesville Craig: Is an athletic left/left prospect with two-way upside and feel to pitch. Clean left-handed arm with feel to repeat on the mound, competes in the zone and confident to challenge opposing hitters, lively fastball playing in the mid-80s with more on the way and a mid-70s breaking ball that flashed sharp action at times. Also an athletic left-handed bat with bat to ball traits a promising centerfield defense to pair.

Landon Hagland, LHP, Germantown: Is an upside left-hander in the class with an athletic and whippy arm action and more room to add into the frame. Has been a standout performer for one of the top teams in the state as a two-way performer. One of the top left-handers in the class with mid-80s fastball velo and feel for multiple different secondary pitches.

Christian Rehm, RHP, Stratford: An imposing 6-foot-4 right-hander with upside on the mound. Upper-80s fastball velo with more to come as he matures into his frame on top of feel to spin two different breaking balls.

Tavin Nass, C, Franklin: Continues to swing a strong right-handed bat, but the quality of the at-bats have remained taking consistent strong at-bats in front of our staff, rarely chasing out of the zone while flashing quality catch and throw traits at-times.

TOOLSY ATHLETES

JonDavid Jacobs, RHP/1B, Pewaukee: Explosive athlete who projects well on both sides of the ball. Strong, level swing with advanced bat speed and line drive tendencies. On the mound, the fastball works in the mid-80’s with heavy carry action to the pitch.

Carter Hoeffler, RHP/MIF, Muskego: Twitchy athlete with advanced tools that will only continue to get better. Smooth, loose arm and athleticism that projects to keep him on the left side of the infield in the future. Strong barrel with feel to lift the ball, power projects.

Tanner Bergey, RHP/3B, Jefferson: Long-levered, twitchy player with two-way ability. Advanced mover on the infield, with athleticism and arm strength that could keep him on the left side of the infield. Compact, simple swing, with feel to backspin. Quick, whippy arm on the mound with feel for two secondaries.

UPSIDE ARMS

Brady Lauer, RHP, Germantown: A pitchability right-hander that has stepped into one an important role as the No. 1 starter mid-season. Pounds the zone with three pitches with feel to sequence and even command the baseball to areas at times.

Colton Meier, LHP, Wisconsin Lutheran: One of the top LHP in the state, athletic mover with a deceptive arm angle. Fastball sits in the low to mid-80’s range, with room for added strength. Has shown to be a consistent strike thrower throughout this season, getting quality innings on a top ranked Wisconsin Lutheran squad.

Samuel Patterson, LHP, Sauk Prairie: Continues to look like one of the top LHP in the state, simple mover with repeatable actions and feel for two secondaries. Short, quick arm with balance throughout the delivery. Mid-80s fastball with feel to spin a breaking ball that projects as an out pitch.

Carson Rose, RHP, Wautoma: Twitchy, athletic arm with advanced feel to spin. Quick, whippy arm with room for added strength. Puts hitters away, impressive strikeout numbers this year in his sophomore campaign, sitting down 102 batters in 57 innings pitched to the tune of a 1.47 earned run average.

Carson Thurs, RHP, Wausau West: Long-levered, projectable arm. Advanced feel to spin multiple pitches, and will only continue to get better with added strength.

RISING BATS

Dominic Bombien, INF, Franklin: Bombien continues to improve, playing up the middle for a top ranked Franklin team. Athletic mover in the infield with range in both directions as well as the ability to throw from multiple angles. Short, repeatable left-handed swing with advanced barrel control. Athleticism will only continue to get better.

Jackson Bline, C, Westosha Central: Left-handed hitting catcher consistently finding himself near the top of the lineup for Westosha Central. Continues to show advanced knowledge of the game. Confident, accurate thrower behind the plate, advanced blocking ability.
