National Player of the Week: 5/4 to 5/10

By Andy Sroka
National Managing Editor, Scouting

Today, we’re announcing our 11th National Player of the Week of the 2026 campaign as parts of the country begin to crown state champions.

The following players were submitted by their coaches to our state directors and they went on to earn the Player or Pitcher of the Week award in those states. From there, we sifted through the country’s POTWs and selected the top performer among them, singling them out as the sole National Player of the Week. If you’re a coach interested in submitting a nomination this season but have not yet received that form so far this spring, visit our staff directory to find the contact information for the state director overseeing your state’s season coverage.

Our staff took player stat lines from the week of May 4 to 10 into account when determining these awards.

🏆 NATIONAL POTW

Brody Bumila LHP / Bishop Feehan, MA / 2026

What else is there to say?

Bumila has been the biggest (literally) and buzziest name of the spring among the high school-aged draft talent and he's now inbound for the first-round selection if he continues to trend the way he's been trending. Our own VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, was on hand to see him earlier this month where he cruised at 94-99 mph with 10 Ks in five innings. Bumila has continued to raise his own ceiling though, and his latest performance is evidence of that. One week ago, Bumila hit the triple-digit velo mark in one of the most dominant outings a high schooler can possibly produce. The 6-foot-9 southpaw punched out 20 batters in seven innings, an outing that was a lone hit-by-pitch away from perfection, which came on the fourth pitch of the game to the very first batter Bumila faced. Sixty-four of the 91 pitches Bumila threw that day were strikes, including a whopping 30 whiffs.

All in all, Bumila finished the start with this final line: 7 IP, R (0 ER), 0 H, 0 BB, HBP, 20 K. He retired 21 straight hitters after the lead-off hitter reached to open the game.

Colorado

+ Cooper Vais, RHP/SS (Arvada West HS, 2027) | Texas:
“Colorado’s No. 1-ranked 2027 prospect put together another huge week to help solidify Arvada West’s perfect regular season record within Colorado (zero in-state losses). The Wildcats’ ace logged nine innings across two starts with 19 strikeouts, just one run allowed, three walks, and five hits surrendered against Valor Christian and Chatfield, both likely 5A playoff teams. Vais also made a major impact at the plate, going 5-for-8 with 2 home runs, a double, and 7 RBIs. The Texas commit is firmly in the conversation for Colorado ‘Player of the Year’ honors, now totaling 83 strikeouts across 49 innings with a microscopic 0.43 ERA, while also hitting .471 with six home runs and 10 stolen bases offensively. On the mound, Vais works with a fastball in the low-90s, advanced feel for spin, and high-level pitchability that continues to separate him from his peers. Combined with his athleticism and offensive production, he projects as one of the more impactful two-way prospects Colorado has produced in recent years.”

Caleb Dameron, Colorado Asst. Director

(7/23/25)

Illinois

+ Terrell Hampton-Hall, C (De La Salle HS, 2029) | Uncommitted:
“Hampton-Hall earned Illinois’ Player of the Week award after finishing 13-for-16 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 13 RBIs and seven runs scored. He's the first freshman to win the state’s weekly award since 2024 (Hayden Adamowicz).”

(2/28/26)

+ Jackson Heidemann, RHP (Harlem HS, 2026) | Madison JC:
“Heidemann is a recurring recipient of this award in the state, this time earning it after he fired a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts and just four hits allowed. The cherry on top of this latest line was that he set his program’s all-time strikeout record in the process.”

Peter Hamot, Illinois & Wisconsin Asst. Director

(8/5/25)

Indiana

+ Aiden Smith, RHP/OF (Shelbyville HS, 2026) | Kentucky:
“Smith set the school record at Shelbyville for career home runs (18) this past week while also leading them to a 3-0 week as they jumped back into the 3A top-10 rankings. For the week, he hit .667 with a double, a triple, and three home runs. The Kentucky signee also added a win in his performance on the bump, where he struck out eleven batters in a one-hit, complete-game performance.”

Cooper Trinkle, Indiana Scouting Director

(Super 60; 2/1/26)

Kansas

+ Matthew Gravitt, RHP (Blue Valley HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“The Blue Valley right-hander was nearly flawless against conference rival Blue Valley Southwest, tossing a seven-inning no-hitter to lead the Tigers to a 5-0 victory, finishing just a lone walk shy of a perfect game to take home this week's Kansas Player of the Week honors.”

Eliott Wilk, Central Region Ops., Area Scout

Kentucky

+ Colt Isenberg, SS (Bowling Green HS, 2028) | Uncommitted:
“The sophomore standout helped lead the Purples through a dominant 6-0 week and a now eight game win streak as they continue to surge toward the postseason. Bowling Green exploded for 56 runs during the stretch, with Isenberg serving as a key piece of the offense. The 5-foot-9, 158-pound left-handed hitter turned in an impressive week at the plate, collecting 11 hits while scoring eight runs and driving in six. He added a double, three walks, and two stolen bases while consistently creating traffic on the bases all week. Isenberg impressed in his first look in front of the Kentucky staff this winter at the Preseason All-State South event, and he has more than lived up to expectations this spring in a loaded Purples lineup. The young shortstop now sits second on the team with a .372 batting average, totaling 32 hits, 25 runs scored, and 23 RBIs to go along with seven extra-base hits and 20 walks. He’s also been a perfect 12-for-12 on stolen bases this year. With a 29-4 overall record and the top spot in the Region 4 standings, Bowling Green has established itself as one of the top teams in the state after narrowly missing the regional tournament the past two seasons in a dominant 14th District. The Purples appear poised for a deep postseason run if they can continue this momentum, and Isenberg has been a major factor in their success.”

(2/17/26)

+ Luke Hillard, RHP/1B (Whitley County HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“The junior two-way turned in a complete-game gem over the weekend against Madison Southern, helping the Colonels secure another big win as they continue a very impressive regular season that has landed them at the No. 2 overall ranking and a spot on the National Top-50. Hillard worked seven innings, allowing just four hits and two runs while walking only one and striking out an impressive 10 hitters. After surrendering back-to-back singles to begin the game on a pop-fly and a bunt, the 6-foot-1, 182-pound righty quickly settled in and took control, retiring 18 of the next 19 batters faced. The '27 right-hander consistently attacked the zone and missed barrels throughout the day, opening 18 of 25 batters with first-pitch strikes. Hillard has been up to the mid-80s on the fastball, and pairs it with a strong offspeed mix that includes a 77-81 mph slider, 76-77 curveball, and a 77-81 changeup. Since transferring in for the 2026 season, Hillard has become a staple in the Whitley County rotation, now leading the staff with 44.1 innings pitched through nine starts. On the year, he has allowed just 24 hits and 13 earned runs for a 2.05 ERA, while striking out 57 hitters en route to an 8-0 record. The No. 2-ranked Colonels dropped a tough matchup to Sayre this week, but they’ll look to finish the regular season strong and carry momentum into postseason play.”

Jamie Tessoff, Kentucky State Director

(4/2/26)

Minnesota

+ Colbe Tappe, C (Staples-Motley HS, 2026) | St. Cloud State:
“Staples-Motley's Colbe Tappe quite literally committed murder on baseballs this past week. The St. Cloud State commit went 15-for-20 at the dish with six doubles and three homers driving in 19 runs. It really doesn't get much better than that.”

(8/10/25)

+ Thomas Leeper, RHP (Chaska HS, 2028) | Uncommitted:
“Chaska's Leeper tossed a no-hitter last week against the Benilde St. Margaret's Red Knights last week. The sophomore right-hander only needed 84 pitches to get the job done while facing the minimum. Not too bad for a high level arm for the Hawks.”

Andy Judkins, Minnesota State Director

(3/24/26)

Ohio

+ Mack Hieber, RHP (Patrick Henry HS, 2026) | Ohio State:
“The future Ohio State Buckeye has been dominant throughout his high school career, and his senior year has been the best year of the bunch. So far the No. 19-ranked prospect in the state has the following stats: 40 IP (4-0), 0.87 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, 75 K, 4 BB. This week the righty produced this line: 14 IP, 2-0, 0.00 ERA, 25 K, 0 BB. Hieber has already set career records at Patrick Henry in strikeouts (319) and wins (23), with both of those continuing to rise. Stuff-wise, the righty has a fastball up to 91 mph, a mid-70s slider, a 12/6 curve in the low-70s and a changeup in the low-80s. Good pitchability and the confidence to throw any pitch in any count.”

Dylan Hefflinger, Ohio Editor-in-Chief & Advanced Scout

Oregon

+ Sam Smith, OF (Central Catholic HS, 2028) | Uncommitted:
“The top-ranked sophomore in the state had a big set of games at the plate last week to win Hitter of the Week. Smith finished 7-for-8 across three games played, slugging a home run, triple, and a double. He also added four walks, five runs and five RBIs. Smith was exceptional at PNW Preseason All-State this winter and will have plenty of eyes on him this summer.”

(3/19/26)

+ Declan O'Brien, RHP (La Salle Prep HS, 2026) | Uncommitted:
“The senior from La Salle Prep had a great outing on the mound to win Oregon’s latest Pitcher of the Week award. The righty spun a seven-inning no-hitter, allowing no runs in a dominant outing in which he walked just one batter and struck out 13. The senior is the No. 7-ranked right-handed pitcher in Oregon's 2026 class.”

Dylan Grenz, Pacific Northwest Asst. Scouting Director

Washington

+ Jase Wong, INF (Skyview HS, 2026) | Mt. Hood CC:
“The senior from Skyview High had a huge offensive set of games to win Washington’s Player of the Week award. The right-handed hitter finished the week 4-for-5, slugging two home runs and a double. He also added four runs and five RBIs. Wong was seen in-game earlier this spring at the PNW Kickoff Classic HS Tournament, sponsored by Prep Baseball.”

+ Sam Kolb, RHP (Desales Catholic HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“The junior was dominant across two outings last week, as he tossed 12 innings overall, allowing just a single hit and run. He walked just two hitters and struck out an overwhelming 32. Kolb was most recently seen at the Central Washington Preseason ID in Moses Lake this winter.”

Dylan Grenz, Pacific Northwest Asst. Scouting Director

(2/17/26)

Wisconsin

+ Alex Michna, OF (New Berlin Eisenhower HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“Michna put together some eye-popping numbers as he helped lead Ike to a 4-1 record this past week. The left-handed bat went 13-for-19 with two home runs, two triples, four doubles, 16 RBIs, two walks, 11 runs, and eight stolen bases. The highlight of the week was a two-run home run in a loss to Cedar Grove-Belgium, which sparked an offensive rally, while down 11-2.

“He started his week going 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk, as the Lions cruised to a 7-0 victory over Waukesha South. He would then follow this up with a 3-for-3 performance, collecting five RBIs, a walk, and two doubles in a dominant 22-1 win over Pius XI. The following day, the Lions would face Pius XI once more, where Michna would top his previous performance. Going 5-for-6 with five RBIs, a double, and two triples, as the Lions would win 22-2. His two triples came in the top of the seventh where the Lions put up 11 runs. Then, in the back half of the week, Michna would go 2-for-3, with three RBIs and a double in a 12-2 victory over Greenfield. The lone loss this week came against No. 19-ranked CGB in a 14-6 battle, a game that saw Michna go 2-for-4 with two RBIs off a late home run.

“The 6-foot, 204-pound junior is currently ranked No. 47 overall in the '27 class and has been showing production all year long. Helping lead the Lions to a 12-5 record, the left-hand bat looks to continue his charge of the top-half of the order as we enter an important two-week span.”

(3/16/26)

+ Josh Wright, RHP (Fall Creek HS, 2027) | Uncommitted:
“Wright has been unhittable over his last two starts for Fall Creek, tossing his second no-hitter in as many starts. In his latest outing against Loyal, the right-hander threw a no-hitter, leading the charge on the mound for the Crickets en route to a 2-0 victory. An electric arm leads this rotation, also providing a spark as the everyday leadoff man. Wright tossed seven innings, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and one walk, while striking out 14. After starting the game with a lead-off walk, the right-hander dialed in, only allowing a single base runner on an error. Wright would also help himself out in the leadoff spot with a double, going 1-for-4.

“In his last two starts, the 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-hander has tossed 12 innings, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and two walks, all while collecting 22 strikeouts. His season ERA now sits at 0.90. Every time he touches the mound it’s a show, though Wright has also been producing with the bat all season long. The left-handed hitter is batting .491 with a .630 OBP as a stable presence at the leadoff spot for Fall Creek.”
