Bishop Gorman utilized a dominant performance on the mound and an aggressive approach on the base paths to overpower Bishop Manogue 10-2 on Thursday. The Gaels’ defense remained flawless throughout the contest, securing a definitive home victory in the state tournament semifinals.
The story of the game was senior Hudson Ciulla, who produced a masterpiece for the Gaels. Ciulla tossed a 6-inning gem, surrendering just one hit while racking up six strikeouts to earn the win. Spanish Springs utilized a massive five-run sixth inning to erase a late deficit and defeat Centennial 7-4 on Thursday. The Cougars’ offense ignited when it mattered most, stringing together clinical hits to secure a comeback victory in the state tournament semifinals.
The story of the game was Nery Gonzalez, who delivered the definitive blow for the Cougars. Gonzalez finished the day with a game-high three RBIs, headlined by a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth that flipped the lead for good. On the mound, Logan Johnson earned the win, battling through six innings and racking up eight strikeouts. Wyatt Wirshing anchored the lineup with a team-high three hits, including two doubles, while Landon Garrido showed veteran patience with three walks and recorded the save. The story of the game was freshman standout Benson Ornelas, who produced a masterpiece at the plate. Ornelas finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, and a game-high six RBIs, single-handedly driving in the bulk of the Knights' runs.
