SEATTLE ACADEMNY VS ROOSEVELT (4.20.26)

This Metro league match-up between Roosevelt and Seattle Academy might be one of the more unique games we’ve ever reported on. We will get to the player performances but first we need to provide some context. This game started on Monday, April 20th. After 8 innings, the score was tied 2-2. After 8 innings, the field time designated for baseball had expired and the game needed to be halted. The resumed play the next day with the top of the 9th. But after 16 total innings the score remained 2-2 and was then deemed to be a tie! 1 game. 2 days. 16 innings. So with that, here is what we were on hand for.

SEATTLE ACADEMY

Lets start things off the top ranked player in Washington and one of the top seniors in the country with ‘26 RHP Eli Herst (Vanderbilt). We had eyes on the Prep Baseball All-American earlier this spring in a shorter, abbreviated 2 inning tune up. Now that the weather has become functional and his pitch count is ramped up, it was time to circle back for an extended look.

Herst went 7 IP, allowing just 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB with 12 K. He threw 82 pitches with 64 going for strikes. The pure stuff has ticked up a bit from our previous looks and the polish/execution with his secondaries was there from the jump. Overall, Herst continues to display a starter profile with a mechanically sound operation and still has some ceiling to tap into.

FB 90-93, T94
CB 78-79
SL 84-86
CH 85

Additionally, Herst provided the only offense of the game as well with his 2-run HR in the bottom of the 2nd. While his future is on the mound, either in college or the pros, Herst is an offensive force this season, batting over .400 in his senior campaign.

ROOSEVELT

For Roosevelt, give their pitchers a lot of credit for executing over 2 days knowing that there wasn’t much room for error with Herst on the mound.

On Monday, they relied on ‘26 RHP Theo Silas (Middlebury) and then uncommitted ‘27 LHP Andrew Patterson. Silas has electric stuff at his best and battled through some command woes to rack up 4 innings while punching out 6.

FB 84-88
SL 74-76
CH 77-78

Patterson then contributed 3 scoreless innings to keep things at 2-2. He allowed 1 H, with 2 BB and 4 K. Showed the ability to move his FB around the zone from a ¾ slot to pair with his secondaries.

After that, Roosevelt got 6 scoreless innings from ‘27 Rece Shewey, allowing 3 H, 2 BB with 7 punchouts and then ‘27 Nicholas Schertzinger went 3 hitless and scoreless innings with 2 K.

On offense, uncommitted ‘27 OF Quinn Bruce further established himself as a hitter to know in the class moving forward. Bruce not only generates above average bat speed but he does so in a tight window with the ability to trigger his swing instantly. His short, power levers give him compact strength and he was able to get to high end velocity without cheating or compromising his approach. It’s a hitability profile with gap to gap power. Defensively he’s got plenty of quickness and instincts to handle his OF duties to pair with a strong arm.

Uncommitted ‘27 1B Tate Bagley also impressed after a quality showing in the preseason. The physical 1B has size and bat speed for the corner spot with upper 90s exit velocities. He lined a hard single up the middle for the portion of the game we were able to attend.

Lastly, ‘26 OF Tommy Belle (San Diego State) had impact on the game in multiple ways, helping Roosevelt get on the board early in the Top of the 1st with a sac fly and also making a huge defensive play. In the bottom of the 8th, Seattle Academy attempted to score the winning run from 2nd base on a 1B into CF. Belle got to the ball in rhythm and stayed under control while throwing a strike to home plate to cut down the runner but a wide margin and keep the game tied at 2-2.

We weren’t on hand for the remaining 8 innings played between these 2 but kudos to all the players who battled it out under the unique circumstances.

LYNDEN VS SEHOME (4.21.26)

On Tuesday we were up North checking out a NWC match-up of 2A league foes with Lynden facing off against home team Sehome.

LYNDEN

For Lyden, it was a tough day on offense as they only mustered 2 total hits in the contest.

In the top of the 1st with 2 outs, they got an oppo single from ‘26 1B Spencer Adams but he would be stranded to end the frame.

Their next hit didn’t come till the top of the 6th when ‘26 INF Matthew Carroll (Everett CC) had a single to the left-side of the INF on a well struck ground ball.

A couple bats had some quality performances on the day despite not having the best results in a box score. But keep an eye on juniors SS Gordy Bedlington and OF Dawson VanDalen. Bedlington was a preseason standout who has a nice lefty swing and is a sound defender at SS. VanDalen put some quality swings on the ball and flashed athleticism in the OF with easy closing speed and quick reads.

SEHOME

For the Mariners, ‘28 P/INF Jadden Geiger was really the star of the day. Starting with his performance on the mound. He went 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K. Pitching in the 80-84 range with his FB and pairing with a CB in the low-to-mid 70s. Geiger attacked the zone with a quick pace and steady conviction. His athleticism gives him plenty of body control on the mound with a shorter, more compact arm action. Stays behind the ball well and is quick to make necessary adjustments.

Offensively he also had a big day going 2-2, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB. Got the scoring started early in bottom 1 with a RBI double and would come around to score on an INF single. Worked to his pull-side in his next 2B and showed the ability to put a tight turn on the ball and pull the hands in quickly while staying through the baseball and getting extension after contact. Definitely an athlete to follow in the class.

Senior OF Tyson Goodman also had a productive day at the plate, going 2-4 with 2 R scored.

Lastly, keep an eye on 2029 LHP Garrett Gibbons. The wiry lefty showed poise ahead of his years while maintaining an aggressive mound presence in his 1 inning stint. With a comfortable lead, he wasted no time going at hitters with an all FB attack as he struck out the side. The FB was 77-78 on this look but given his release height and angle, the velocity plays up and he generated a ton of swing and miss.
