The 2026 VA/DC high school season fully and officially kicked off on March 16th. We continue our weekly awards for a couple different areas, including today's featured Team of the Week. Team of the Week will run each and every Tuesday. This story will highlight a team that had a strong week, which usually includes at least one win over a Power 25/quality opponent.

Week 1 Team of the Week: St. Anne's Belfield

Week 5 Team of the Week: Miller School Mavericks

  

While other weeks there has been some solid competition for team of the week, this week there was only one deserving team. Miller School had undoubtedly the toughest in-state week of any team during the 2026 VA/DC high school season. While the Team of the Week honors focuses on Monday through Saturday, it is hard to not look at the fact that the Mavericks also faced a Top 10 ranked Cox team the previous Saturday, making it five games in eight days, all of which are versus Tier 1 opponents who have all been ranked inside the Power 25 at some point this season. In addition to that, MSA faced the staff ace in every single game, starting with Cox's Hank Brown, then STAB's Ryan Steeper, followed by Battlefield's Josh Weppner, then Greenbrier's Zach Tew, and finally ending the week with Cape Henry and facing Noah Hummel. The Mavs have won 11 of their last 13 games and their two losses have come by a combined three runs.
