Week of April 13th
Monday
Bryce Fontenot, 1B/RHP, 2027, Cherokee Bluff
Uncommitted. Fontenot looked impressive on both sides of the diamond on Monday night. On the mound, he filled up the zone with a fastball and a sharp slider. The FB was 87–89 with late life and good ride in the zone, generating multiple whiffs. The SL was a really good secondary pitch, generating chases out of the zone in plus counts, with sharp east-to-west movement from the same arm slot as the FB. He is a big mover down the mound with good arm action and the ability to maintain velocity. At the plate, he looks to do damage to the pull side early in the count. He uses a slight leg kick with good balance in the lower half and shows a heavy barrel throughout the zone. He does a good job not chasing and hunts pitches in the zone. Shows clear two-way potential with the ability to impact the game on both sides.
Miller Greene, 1B/LHP, 2027, Peach County
Uncommitted. Greene continues to live on the barrel for this Peach County club. Shows a simple approach with a good plane through contact and the ability to go the other way with juice. Displays really good rhythm at the plate and doesn’t try to do too much. Slows the game down and strings together competitive ABs, resulting in consistent hard-hit balls. Slightly open stance with a good transfer in the lower half, keeping the barrel in the zone for a long time. A big bat for this Peach County team that continues to get wins. Projects as a reliable middle-of-the-order presence who consistently produces quality at-bats. Shows quality pitch recognition with the ability to adjust mid-AB against different pitch types.
Brody Hurd, OF/RHP, 2027, Cherokee Bluff
Uncommitted. Hurd had an impressive night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left. Jumped on a first-pitch slider and smoked it down the LF line for a home run. Athletic build with the ability to cover the entire plate, showing good rhythm with present bat speed throughout the zone. Plays the game with a lot of emotion and does whatever it takes to help his team win, serving as a vocal leader for this Bluff team. Gap-to-gap approach with power to the pull side, along with the ability to shorten up and battle with two strikes. Good runner who shows range in the outfield with a really good arm. Displays a high baseball IQ on the bases, getting good jumps and making the right reads. Continues to impact the game in multiple ways and projects as a key contributor moving forward.
