CHSAA Players of the Week: April 13-18

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

Each week during the high school season, the Prep Baseball Colorado staff will be announcing our 'Player of the Week' award for that particular week. Numerous players from across the state continue to perform and put up numbers on a week-to-week basis, though only one athlete can take home the 'hitter' or 'pitcher' award each week. Below you'll see which players have earned our 'Player of the Week' honors this spring season.

NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches and others from around our state. If you are a interested in nominating a player, please contact Marc Wagner ([email protected]).

CHSAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: APRIL 13-18

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Ethan Wachsmann RHP / OF / Grandview, CO / 2026

Colorado’s #1 overall prospect brought absolutely electric stuff during last week’s action, tossing a 7-inning no-hitter with 8 strikeouts against Mullen in a tight 1-0 ballgame. Wachsmann needed just 87 pitches, and chucked 59 of them for strikes. This marks Wachsmann’s second complete-game no-hitter within the past year, and the Wake Forest commit continues his meteoric rise with a fastball that has already touched 100 mph this season, which has sounded the alarm for MLB scouts in the four-corners region.

Wachsmann’s arsenal is headlined by that elite velocity, but he also shows outlier feel for spin, with the ability to shape multiple pitches. His breaking balls spin around 3,000 rpm, and he mixes in a quality kick changeup to give a different look to left-handed hitters. This spring, he’s taken another step forward with a cut fastball in the 87–88 mph range, featuring exceptional spin (around 2,800 rpm) and sharp lateral movement. That pitch pairs well with his four-seam fastball, which shows ride through the zone and spin north of 2,500 rpm.

Don’t be surprised if Wachsmann makes noise as a ‘Player of the Year’ candidate down the stretch of the CHSAA season. He currently owns 37 strikeouts in just 21 innings, allowing only 6 walks, 9 hits, and posting a 1.00 ERA.

HITTER OF THE WEEK:

Jonathan Gambino OF / RHP / Summit, CO / 2026

Gambino put together one of the loudest single-game performances of the week, belting 3 home runs for his Summit Tigers in a 15–8 win over Rifle. The senior showed off serious impact power in that one, ending his day with a no-doubt shot to left-field.

Overall on the week, Gambino totaled 5 hits, including those 3 home runs, while adding 8 runs scored, 5 RBI, and 2 stolen bases, impacting the game in multiple ways offensively. The Antelope Valley commit brings a strong blend of athleticism and physicality, and continues to show his value as a two-way contributor for Summit this spring.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Maddox Burnett, Brady Hirsh, Austin Mireiter, Aaron Jaquez, Landon Kennell, Sean Witt, Landry Warner, Christopher Gallegos, Jonah Rascoff
