Notable Recaps from Wednesday

Central-Phenix City (6) vs. Smiths Station (5)
Central outlasted Smiths Station 6-5 in 12 innings on Wednesday, securing the win in a back-and-forth extra-inning battle. After taking an early 4-1 lead in the second behind key hits from Christian Thomas and Carter Gilley, Central saw Smiths Station rally to tie the game late, forcing extras. The Red Devils regained the lead in the 11th on an RBI single from Cam Norton, but Smiths Station answered again to extend the game. Central finally broke through in the 12th, taking advantage of a wild pitch to plate the go-ahead run and hold on for the win. Leland Stanford led the offense with three hits, while Gilley and Norton each drove in two runs. Ashton Blankenship was outstanding in relief, tossing seven innings while allowing just two runs to earn the win.

Vestavia Hills (19) vs. Hoover (13)
Vestavia Hills outslugged Hoover 19-13 on Wednesday in a high-scoring battle filled with momentum swings. After falling behind early, the Rebels erupted for six runs in the second inning to take control before Hoover answered with a big fourth inning to briefly reclaim the lead. Vestavia Hills responded again in a major way, putting up a nine-run fifth inning to break the game open and regain control for good. The Rebels totaled 14 hits, with Gavin Smith leading the way with three RBIs, while Cross Tonsmeire, Charlie Taaffe, Jacob Harris, and Cohen Walker each added multiple hits. Vestavia also showed patience at the plate with 10 walks and applied pressure on the bases with four stolen bases. Nick Williams earned the win in relief, while Vestavia’s offense proved too much to overcome in the back-and-forth contest.

Orange Beach (7) vs. Bayside Academy (5)
Orange Beach rallied from an early deficit to defeat Bayside Academy 7-5 on Wednesday, overcoming a four-run hole to secure the win. After falling behind 5-1 in the first inning, the Makos chipped away and eventually tied the game in the fifth before taking the lead for good in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Matthew Hoover. Hoover also earned the win on the mound, going six innings while striking out six, and Ben Pugh closed it out in relief. Offensively, Hoover drove in two runs, while Ethan O’Meara led the lineup with a multi-hit performance. Orange Beach applied pressure throughout with seven walks and seven stolen bases, using aggressive baserunning and timely hitting to complete the comeback.
