Today we are releasing our first release of the Virginia/DC Small School Top 10. The Small School Top 10 is a team rankings set focused on VHSL Class 1 and Class 2 schools from around the state. The schools that make these rankings are public school only teams. While we do have a limited knowledge of roster makeup of some of these teams, quality wins are of the utmost importance and head to head records are weighted much more heavily. Take a look at some notes on a few teams from inside the rankings and a few on the outside.

• The John Battle Trojans check in at the number one spot of the first release of the 2026 Small School Top 10. They have a signature win over St. Albans, a annual top team of the DCSAA. They have also handled other competition in their area. Their lone loss of the season so far is to St. Anne's Belfield who is undefeated and a top three Power 25 team. They have shown flashes of being a explosive offense and that had led to their success so far this season.

• Randolph-Henry finds their way in the number three spot of the Small School Top 10. They have handled in-state competition in fairly dominant fashion. They have shown the ability to put up runs, scoring eight or more runs in six of their nine games. While their two losses were to out of state teams on spring break, they return back to Virginia this week and look to continue their in state domination.

• Fort Chiswell comes in as the one of the two undefeated team in the Small School Top 10. While they are undefeated they lack that signature win, but they will have that opportunity against perennial powerhouse Auburn this week. If they could win that game, then it could definitely help their case to move up in the rankings. They have had some dominant wins with the offense showing well and that offense will be needed this week.
  
  
  

• Along with our Power 25 every Monday and Private School Top 10 every Wednesday, we will update the Small School Top 10 every other Tuesday. Our next update will come on April 28th, and there will be a total of three updates before our fourth and final update on June 8th.
