The Top 5

This week brings a few subtle shifts within the Top-5 of our Power 25 Rankings, as teams continue to separate themselves heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Barbe once again claims the top spot after a perfect 3-0 week, improving to 29-1 overall. The Bucs picked up a marquee win over Sam Houston on Tuesday night, then followed it up with a two-game sweep of Sulphur on Thursday and Saturday. Still unbeaten in district play, Barbe has now extended its winning streak to an impressive 28 games.

Brother Martin holds steady at No. 2 after going 1-1 last week. The Crusaders suffered a tough loss to John Curtis, but responded with a key district victory over St. Augustine to maintain their position.

Catholic BR also went 1-1 on the week, earning a win over St. Martin’s before falling to cross-town rival University Lab in a competitive midweek matchup.

Zachary continues to surge, improving to 24-5 overall after a 3-0 week. The Broncos swept Woodlawn before knocking off district rival Central BR. Senior Noah Sullivan was dominant in that win, tossing a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats.

Sam Houston remains at No. 5 after a 2-1 week, moving to 22-8 overall. The Broncos dropped their midweek contest to top-ranked Barbe but bounced back with a series sweep of Lafayette. Juniors Ty Smith and Coleton Donaldson led the way on the mound, combining for 14 innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out 16.

Risers

+ West Monroe makes their biggest move yet up the Power 25 all the way to #6 in this week's update. The Rebels went 2-0 last week with a big win over Benton last Monday night.

+ Hahnville jumps up again in this update to #8 after winning all three of their games last week. The Tigers have won 15 straight games and are one of the hottest teams in the entire state. They have a big matchup with rival Destrehan this week for the District 8-5A title.

+ Vandebilt Catholic went a perfect 3-0 last week to improve their overall record to 23-7. The Terriers beat defending Select Division III State Champion Catholic-New Iberia by a score of 8-6 last Wednesday. Sophomore Corey Bourgeois went 3-for-5 with a double and 3 runs batted in against the Panthers.
