2A Region Predictions

2A West Region I

Jamie’s Winner: Century Knights

Cole’s Winner: Poolesville Falcons

Jamie's Write-Up: Slight change in this region, as Poolesville jumps into region I and Francis Scott Key departs. This region can go a few different ways, and the inclusion of a highly decorated program like Poolesville makes it that much more competitive. Century and Middletown had a battle in the region final a year ago, ultimately seeing Middletown win the region, and I see this coming down to Century, Middletown, and Poolesville as the teams to beat in 2026. I’m going to stay to my Carroll County roots and pick Century to avenge their loss in 2025.

Cole's Write-Up: Among all the teams in this region, Poolesville may be the most battle-tested heading into the playoffs, having navigated a tough Montgomery County schedule all spring. Despite featuring one of the youngest rosters in the field, the Falcons have the potential to surprise the favorites. Their success hinges on consistency, but with a deep pitching staff, Poolesville has the tools to make a serious run if everything comes together at the right time.

2A West Region II

Jamie’s Winner: Glenelg Gladiators

Cole’s Winner: River Hill Hawks

Jamie's Write-Up: Howard County programs in Long Reach and River Hill slide into region II this year, as Poolesville and Centennial depart. Two mainstays in this region in Glenelg and Southern had a close one run region final a year ago, and I see this as being a rematch in 2026. Glenelg has plenty of depth on the bump, and Southern brings back plenty of offense, so look for fireworks throughout this region come playoff time. Howard County powerhouse in River Hill jumping into this region only adds to the competitiveness, making for this to be one of the more high-powered regions across this classification. Don’t be surprised to see any of these three hoist the region title in 2026, but my pick is the Gladiators to avenge their 4-3 region final loss a year ago and take the title this spring.

Cole's Write-Up: Coach Estrin consistently has his teams ready to perform in the postseason, and even with a younger roster in 2025, the Hawks surpassed expectations with a 15-plus win season. Now, with the pitching staff gaining another year of experience—highlighted by sophomores Hansen Zhang and Collin Reis—the foundation is in place. If the offense can take a step forward and generate more production than last year, the Hawks should be well-positioned to get over the hump and return to the state tournament.

2A North Region I

Winner: Hereford Bulls

Write-Up: A completely revamped 2A North Region I this year, as six teams from Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Carroll County look to battle it out. Hereford took the region II title in the North last year, and we look for them to repeat in 2026 in region I. The Bulls bring back a plethora of depth on both sides of the ball, and we see a deep run on the horizon for Hereford this spring.

2A North Region II

Winner: Fallston Cougars

Write-Up: Region II was put together with Baltimore County and Baltimore City schools last year, and in 2026, Harford County powerhouse Fallston joins a completely revamped region. Most of this region II are teams that slide down from region I a year ago, one that saw Eastern Tech take the region in a close 2-1 win over Sparrows Point. Look for both to put up a competitive fight with “new face” Fallston throughout this region, however, the Cougars bring with them plenty of talent from the UCBAC and we see Fallston running away with this region.

2A South Region I

Jamie’s Winner: Frederick Douglass Eagles

Cole’s Winner: Gwynn Park Yellow Jackets

Jamie's Write-Up: The 2025 2A South Region I winner in Lackey departs this year, along with Potomac, as Friendly and Surrattsville enter. Frederick Douglass lost a close 2 run game in the region final last year, and I’m picking the Eagles to take the title in 2026 with the departure of Lackey no longer in their way. The Yellow Jackets from Gwynn Park will certainly have something to say about that, making for this to be an exciting region final to keep eyes on.

Cole's Write-Up: Gwynn Park entered as the top seed in 2025 and ultimately fell to Lackey in the region semifinals. With Lackey dropping down to Class 1A, Gwynn Park should be well-positioned to take the region back into their own hands, as the region consists of all PG county schools. Frederick Douglass will be the team in their way, but Gwynn Park defeated them 9-8 in their only matchup last season, so I’m going to side with history and take the Yellow Jackets.

2A South Region II

Winner: Huntingtown Hurricanes

Write-Up: Only one change in the 2A South Region II this year, as powerhouse SMAC school in Patuxent departs, making this a 6 team region as opposed to 7. Huntingtown took this region a year ago, on their way to the 2A State title, and we see no difference in 2026. The Hurricanes return one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the state and should be the team to beat throughout this region, however, an experienced McDonough program is hot on their heels and should make for this to be an exciting region playoffs.

2A East Region I

Winner: Elkton Golden Elks

Write-Up: Only one change in this region, as Fallston departs and Bel Air enters. This is a highly competitive “UCBAC” region year in and year out, and we see no difference in 2026. All of these programs lost a considerable amount on both sides of the ball due to graduation, so this region should be even more balanced this spring. This region can go multiple different ways, but we see the offensive firepower of Elkton as being at the forefront of their success and lead them to a region title.

2A East Region II

Winner: Parkside Rams

Write-Up: The only region to stay put in the re-classifications, the 2A East Region II is made up of all Bayside teams and is competitive year in and year out. Parkside won the region a year ago and made it all the way to the state title game, eventually losing a hard-fought battle, 1-0. Queen Anne’s lost the region final to Parkside as year ago, and we look for them to return as being one of the big competitors to Parkside in 2026, and look for a highly talented Kent Island squad to turn some heads this spring and potentially make a run at the Rams throughout this region as well. We’ll stay with Parkside for the time being, as we believe the Rams hold the most depth and top-end talent in this region.
