Mater Dei Catholic vs Clairemont
Diego Cruz, Prep Baseball Contributor
2026 SS Noah Cook, Mater Dei Catholic
Cook made an immediate statement from the leadoff spot, leaving the yard on just the 3rd pitch of the game with a drive to deep left. He looked comfortable and ready from the jump, and the “hitterish” traits showed throughout, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI double to go with the homer. The power is evident, and he did a good job stacking quality at-bats rather than letting the early bomb be the only highlight. What really separated Cook was how he impacted the game on the bases. He showed noticeable baserunning IQ and aggression, constantly looking to take the extra bag and put pressure on the defense. After a double, he read the pitcher well and stole third, catching him on the blindside, an awareness play you don’t see consistently, especially from a hitter with his offensive impact. Defensively, the actions were a bit shaky at times and there’s room to clean things up, but the bat and baserunning combo make him a tough player to contain when he’s on. An uncommitted middle INF that should be getting more looks as the season progresses.
