Thursday

Whitewater @ Mary Persons

Score: Whitewater win, 5-0

Standouts:

Trey Robbins, LHP, 2026, Whitewater

Xander Sholar, 1B, 2026, Whitewater

Brandon Campbell, RHP/SS, 2026, Whitewater

Michael Temples, C, 2028, Whitewater

Andrew Snow, LHP/OF, 2027, Mary Persons

Key moments: Things were quiet up until the 4th inning where the Wildcats jumped out to the lead from a Michael Temples RBI single. The lead would extend further in the 5th after Temples came through with a 2 RBI single. Xander Sholar blasted a lead-off solo home run in the 6th as Whitewater went on to win 5-0 behind a dominant pitching performance from Trey Robbins as he struck out 12 across 6.0 IP of no runs.

Avery’s Takeaway: Whitewater has a multitude of pieces that can carry them on any given night with a talented blend of upperclass and underclass talent. Michael Temples and Xander Sholar showed well in the heart of the order while other names like Brenden Sholar at the top and Chase Davenport at the bottom collected hits as well. With Trey Robbins on the mound for this staff he gives them a chance to win on any given night with immense pitchability and brings high-level competitiveness to the bump. It wasn’t what Mary Persons wanted to open region but upperclass names in Gavin Mitchell and Andrew Snow look to lead the Bulldogs to a region title and aim to take revenge against Whitewater tonight

Landmark Christian @ Mt. Paran

Score: Mt. Paran win 11-1

Standouts:
Rylan Long, C, 2029, Mt. Paran

Cash Cauley, SS, 2028, Mt. Paran

Evan Litschke, LHP, 2028, Mt. Paran

Rhett Bonner, OF, 2026, Mt. Paran

Key moments: Mt. Paran was able to get the offense rolling in the 2nd with a base hit to left from Peyton Klewein to make it 1-0. Sophomore Evan Litschke really set the tone for the game striking out 4 in the first 2 innings. The Eagles offense picked up some momentum in the 3rd after back to back to back doubles by Cash Cauley, Rylan Long and Rhett Bonner. Landmark Christian fought back in the 4th with a solo home run by Niles Redrick. The next big moment came from Brody Conner with 1 out in the 5th. He made a run saving, diving play at 2nd for the 2nd out to keep the runner at 3B and Litschke would end up stranding him there. From there the Eagles tacked on a few more runs with singles by Rhett Bonner and Brody Conner. They would get the run rule in 6 innings to open up region play with a 11-1 win.

Huddy’s Takeaway: Mt. Paran has been on the list to see since the start of the season and I walked away really impressed with the line up. It is really solid 1-9 with 2 really tough outs in Cash Cauley and Rylan Long at the top. Long is a top name in the 2029 class and proved that with 2 doubles on the night, with one being to dead center on a low 90’s fastball on the inner half. There is really no weak spots in this line up with guys like RJ Westbrook in the 8 hole, that took 3 really good swings on the night, but was just missing. He looks more physical from when we saw him last in the fall and will be a big piece the next 4 years for this Eagles squad. Evan Litschke really impressed on the mound the ability to fill up the lower half of the strike zone with a fastball that was low to mid 80’s. The feel for the curveball is what stood out the most. He flipped it over in any count, which had the hitters guessing at all times. He will be a high follow sophomore the rest of the spring season and as we head into the summer. I have a feeling this loss will have Landmark Christian more motivated than ever with strong senior leadership from Taylor Casson and Nile Redrick. We will check back in on them later in the year to get some more at bats from guys like Jackson Lee, who has been a big riser in the 2028 class over the last 6 months. We will be seeing more of the Eagles as well to get more looks on guys like Andrew Akopov and Brody Conner.
