The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.
With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this first edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Christian Gomez OF / LHP / Battlefield, VA / 2027Gomez only managed one hit on the day, but showed a patient approach the entire day, consistently working deep counts and a few walks. The one hit was a very good piece of hitting, letting an elevated outer half fastball get deep and then using his strength and batspeed to drive it over the leftfielder’s head and then turning on the jets to leg out a triple. His maturity at the plate showed there because he went with the pitch instead of trying to come around the ball. The ability to do damage to all fields like that is part of what makes him special at the plate.

Alex Kamprowski RHP / OF / Battlefield High, VA / 2027Has an athletic frame and an athletic explosive delivery. Short arm action from a very high three-quarters slot. Fastball was 87-89 with some late armside run. Slider showed swing and miss, had good armspeed and hard late break at 75-77. Got beat on a fastball in, but it was a good pitch, the hitter just put a good swing on it. Otherwise a pretty good outing with multiple strikeouts.

Teagan Leach LHP / 1B / Battlefield High, VA / 2027Leach physically looks good this spring, having trimmed down some while still maintaining his strength. The big lefty hitter had a great day at the plate, obviously so when you hit three home runs. I liked that all three were different pitches and different swings. One was a pitch above the waist, another he had to golf out, and the third was in and he dropped the head and turned on it. I also liked his approach, especially in the first at-bat. The batter in front of him walked and was able to advance to third on two breaking balls in the dirt with one out, running Leach to a 2-0 count. He went out of the zone a bit to hit the 2-0 pitch, but the purpose was that he got a fastball that he could hit in the air to drive in the run, and he did that with the pitch. Would you like to see him try to wait for a slightly better pitch to do more damage, maybe. I like that he made sure his team was going to cash in a run.

Joe Lund 1B / RHP / Battlefield, VA / 2026Physical first baseman had a pair of home runs in the game. His strength translates at the plate and he has some power to that pull side. He would be hitting a lot higher in a lot of high school lineups, that power in the seven spot is a testament to how long the Battlefield lineup is.

Shaun Peratt LHP / OF / Battlefield High, VA / 2027Looked solid in his inning of work. He was 82-84, touching 85. Most of those fastballs were at 84. It was a fastball heavy mix for him, but he did spin in a really good backdoor slider at 69 for a called strikeout. Short arm action from a low three-quarters slot and he creates some deception with a touch of crossfire in his delivery.

Josh Weppner RHP / OF / Battlefield High, VA / 2026A pretty good first start of the spring. He had one elevated pitch that he got burned on, but otherwise a clean quick two innings with a few strikeouts. His velocity is up from the last time I saw him in the fall, sitting 87-89, and he landed his slider in the 78-80 range. As usual, filled up the zone with his fastball.

Greenbrier Christian
Jax House LHP / OF / Greenbrier Christian Academy, VA / 2028More compact frame for the left handed bat. Short to contact and stays inside at contact. Flashed some bat to ball skills and range in center field. Will be a name to follow for the Gators this spring and beyond.
| |
Zach Tew RHP / Greenbrier Christian Academy, VA / 2027Probably the best look we have gotten on Tew, even after a really strong showing at the State Games in November. One short inning of work, but the fastball had some life out of the hand at 89-91 mph. While it was a brief look, he showed some feel for spin. The fastball was the winner on the day, as he was able to finish AB's with the 89-91 mph offering.
Ryan Watson 1B / RHP / Greenbrier Christian Academy, VA / 2027The uncommitted bat once again shows he can be a different type of hitter during the high school season. Tends to lean into more hit > power, while still being able to access his high end raw power when he wants. Had a 8+ pitch at-bat that ultimately resulted in a single. Had some short work on the mound where he was 87-90 mph and threw exclusively fastballs.

Heritage (Leesburg)
Ben Bongiovani OF / RHP / Heritage High School, VA / 2027Athletic frame, very short arm action from low-three quarters slot. Showed ability as a strike thrower in a quick inning with 3 strikeouts. Fastball was 82-83 with armside bore. Also showed a slider at 73-74 with some 10/4 shape and sharp break to it.
| |
Davin Crain SS / RHP / Heritage High, VA / 2028Lankier athletic frame, has gotten taller during the offseason. Played a pretty good day at shortstop the morning after playing in the basketball state semifinals. Showed a good approach in his at-bats, even though he didn’t end up with much to show for it. On the mound, smooth simple delivery. Lower three-quarters arm slot. Fastball was 81-82, touching 83. Showed a slider at 71-74 and change-up at 77. Big ground ball getter, induced a lot of weak contact in his inning.
| |
Harrison Davis RHP / OF / Heritage High, VA / 2028Stronger athletic frame. Very short arm action from a very low three-quarters slot, almost sidearm. Fastball was 83-85 with sink and some armside run. Showed a hard slider at 75-78 with good armspeed and late 10/4 break. At the plate, also has a short swing and showed the willingness to use the whole field and the ability to drive the ball.

| |
Bryce Hayes RHP / RHP / Heritage High School, VA / 2026Strong physical athletic frame, good lower half strength and the kind of frame that can hold up as a pitcher. Simple delivery, doesn’t leg lift in stretch, gets into his backside and generates plenty of lower half drive. Three-quarters arm slot, long arm action that is loose and fast. Fastball sat 91-93 in his one inning of work, hitting 94 and 95 once each. Ball has some ride at the top of the zone. Control is inconsistent leading to a higher pitch count, relief is a good role for him. Curveball was 70-71 and is a bigger 12/6 breaker. Has a slider that is harder, but didn’t use it on Saturday. Struck out the side in his inning of work.
| |
Sam Walsh RHP / OF / Heritage (Leesburg), VA / 2026Very short arm action and creates a ton of deception with his closed off delivery, hiding the ball effectively. Throws from a very low three-quarters arm slot. Fastball was 84-85 with late armside run to it. Curveball was 70-71.

Kellam
| |
Chase Brindisi 3B / RHP / Floyd Kellam High, VA / 2027Worked in relief. Normal effort deliver, gets a deeper hand break, and longer arm swing. It is pretty fluid and showed average to slightly above average arm speed. Mid 80's fastball and consistently landed a tigher split slider (75-77 mph).
Janson Greene OF / RHP / Floyd Kellam High, VA / 2029Flashed some really solid pitchability for a freshman. Worked three pitches for strikes in a short outing. Heavier mix of changeups to LHH's and breaking balls to RHH's. Pretty easy mover and made quick work of the opposing offense. Velo is not overpowering (up to 81), but it played well with his ability to land three.
King William
| |
Henry Kite RHP / SS / King William, VA / 2026Athletic frame and an athletic mover throughout his delivery. Works very quickly between pitches and also has some quick pace and rhythm to his delivery. Breaks his hands longer but shortens up during arm stroke, lower three-quarters slot. Fastball sat 89-90 in his 2 innings, touching 91 once. A bit of late life to armside. Only showed a few breaking balls at 75-78. Very good armspeed and late sharp break to them with some 11/5 tilt. Punched out 4 in 2 innings, getting swing and misses with both pitches and also showing the ability to dot the down and away fastball.
| |
Joseph Pasowicz RHP / OF / King William High, VA / 2028Low to mid 80's fastball that played well out of the hand. Slider is firm with shorter shape. The slider shows as more of a finisher than an early get over type of pitch. Lower slot that offers some sink at times. Is not afraid to challenge with the fastball and was able to miss bats and barrels.
Jackson Turnage SS / OF / King William, VA / 2026Had a good day at the plate with multiple barrelled balls. Swing works well gap to gap where he will show some doubles power. Uphill path. Lankier frame still has room to fill out.
Riverside
Dylan Amos RHP / SS / Riverside, VA / 2026On the mound, was 89-90 with his fastball. Slider looked really good at 75-78 with late sharp 10/4 break. True slider, flashed swing and miss. Fastball command was off during this outing, he was missing primarily up, which led to some deeper counts and a longer inning. At the plate, had a hit later in the game when he got behind in the count 0-2, battled back to 2-2, and then went with a fastball away for a very hard hit single to right field. Has always shown the ability to adjust with a 2-strike approach and willingness to use the whole field.
Brayden Dowdall 3B / RHP / RIVERSIDE HIGH, VA / 2027Athletic frame with strength in the lower half. Drop and drive delivery, short arm action with a very low three-quarters arm slot. Fastball was 78-81, touching 82, pitch has heavy sink to it that also runs back a bit to armside. Almost splitter action the sink is so heavy down in the zone. Also showed a slider at 69-72 with 10/4 break.
Graydon Munsey SS / 2B / Riverside High, VA / 2027Stronger athletic frame, moves well on the infield. At the plate, short swing with some strength. Was able to get around elevated inside velocity and hit it with authority, resulting in a home run. But being able to get the barrel out to the contact point for the pitch shows his batspeed.
