North Carolina Power 25: Mid-March Check-In
Season Notes Through March 15, 2026
With the first few weeks of the 2026 North Carolina high school baseball season in the books, teams across the state are beginning to define themselves. While the Prep Baseball NC Power 25 will receive its next full update on Monday, March 23, this week provides a good opportunity to take a closer look at how the current rankings are playing out on the field.
Several teams near the top of the rankings continue to perform at a high level, while others have faced challenging early schedules that have created movement and intrigue within the poll. Conference play is beginning across much of the state, which should provide further clarity before the next update.
Below is a look at key storylines and teams trending early in the 2026 season.
The Top of the Poll Holding Strong
The top four teams in the current Power 25 have largely validated their early-season rankings through the first month of play.
DH Conley sits at No. 1 and has already navigated a challenging schedule, earning wins over Wake Forest and Cardinal Gibbons before splitting a recent matchup with the Crusaders. The Vikings continue to show balance on both sides of the ball and remain one of the more complete teams in the state.
Just behind them, Wesleyan Christian Academy has opened the year at 5-0, including an early win over Charlotte Christian. The Trojans have consistently been among the top programs in the state, and their early results suggest another strong season ahead.
Laney has also looked the part early, moving to 6-1 while picking up quality wins and competing in several challenging matchups. Meanwhile, Metrolina Christian Academy has been one of the hottest teams in the state, opening the year 8-0 and continuing to build momentum after a dominant 2025 season.
Competitive Depth in the Top 10
The middle of the Top 10 has featured several strong early performances and competitive matchups between ranked teams.
JH Rose has jumped out to a 6-0 start, continuing to show the offensive depth that made them dangerous in 2025. The Rampants have already picked up wins over Corinth Holders and Broughton while continuing to rotate a number of players through their lineup.
Cardinal Gibbons has also impressed, posting a 6-1 record with wins over Charlotte Christian and DH Conley. The Crusaders have shown strength both on the mound and at the plate and continue to look like one of the more balanced clubs in the state.
In Charlotte, Myers Park has emerged as one of the early storylines of the season. The Mustangs sit at 7-2, with wins over Reagan and West Forsyth highlighting a strong start. Their early schedule included a trip to the coast where they competed well against quality competition.
Several Teams Finding Their Stride
A number of teams currently ranked in the Power 25 have begun to settle into rhythm after navigating difficult early schedules.
West Forsyth (5-1) picked up a notable win over Laney and continues to look strong as conference play begins.
Weddington (5-1) has also been solid early, including a win over Providence while facing multiple ranked opponents.
South Central (5-0) remains unbeaten and continues to quietly build a strong early-season resume in the eastern part of the state.
Further down the rankings, Wake Forest (5-1) and Providence (7-1) have both produced impressive starts since entering the rankings. Providence in particular has collected a quality win over Marvin Ridge while positioning itself as a team to watch in the Charlotte area.
Teams Pushing Toward the Power 25
As always, several teams just outside the rankings are building resumes that could push them into the Power 25 conversation in the coming weeks.
Terry Sanford has opened the year 6-1 and continues to build momentum after a strong 2025 season.
Jordan has also impressed early, posting a 4-1 record with a notable win over Wakefield.
In the western part of the state, Alexander Central (7-1) and East Rowan (7-0) have both started the season strong and could be poised to make a move into the rankings if their play continues.
Meanwhile, Reagan (6-2) remains firmly on the radar after a competitive early schedule that included several matchups with ranked opponents.
Looking Ahead
With conference play ramping up across the state, the next two weeks should provide significant clarity across the rankings.
