2026 Diamond Notes: Week 2

Every week, coaches around the state submit their nominations for the Prep Baseball California Player of the Week for NorCal and SoCal. Week 2 Players of the Week honors went to Wylan Rottschafer (Costa Mesa, 2026) and Gavin Guy (Newport Harbor, 2026). Rottschafer at the plate he hit .571 with eight hits, a home run, and five RBIs. On the mound he added four innings of work with a win and two saves. Guy threw five shutout innings allowing three hits while striking out seven with no walks.
With several other impressive performances across the past week that were in the mix for both awards and deserve recognition, here is a rundown of some of the other standouts of the week. If you wish to nominate someone for Player or Pitcher of the Week, please be sure to fill out this form before noon on Mondays.
WEEK 2 DIAMOND NOTES
+ Jake Ourique, RHP (Gahr, 2026) - Oregon commit
Ourique delivered a strong outing on the mound in the matchup with El Dorado. The right-hander tossed six innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five. Ourique controlled the game throughout the start, limiting traffic on the bases and keeping opposing hitters off balance across his six innings of work.
+ Hugo Marks, RHP/DH (Washington-Fremont, 2026)
Marks was dominant on the mound in a complete game shutout performance. The right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out seven and needed only 79 pitches to finish the game. Marks also showed exceptional command early in counts, throwing first-pitch strikes to 22 of the 23 hitters he faced.
+ Xavi Cadena, OF (El Dorado, 2026) — CS Fullerton commit
Cadena powered the El Dorado offense during the week with a strong showing at the plate. The outfielder went 5-for-12 with a home run, triple, double, five RBIs, and three runs scored. Cadena showed the ability to drive the baseball for extra bases while consistently producing runs for the lineup.
+ Dimitri Williams, OF/P (Bishop O’Dowd, 2026) — BYU commit
Williams showcased his two-way impact during the week for Bishop O’Dowd. At the plate he went 4-for-6 with a single, two doubles, a home run, three RBIs, five runs scored, two walks, and four stolen bases. On the mound, Williams added three innings of work while striking out six and allowing no walks to earn the win.
+ Ryan Deck, RHP (Los Alamitos, 2026)
Deck turned in a strong start on the mound in the win over Yucaipa. The right-hander worked five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three. Deck kept hitters off balance throughout the outing and helped Los Alamitos secure the victory with a steady performance.
+ Ethan Williams, RHP/OF (Vacaville, 2026) — Sacramento State commit
Williams contributed on both sides of the ball during the week for Vacaville. Offensively, he delivered a key pinch-hit two-RBI single against Del Campo and later added a home run, a walk, two RBIs, and two runs scored in another game. On the mound, Williams threw a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over Clayton Valley.
+ Christian Lopez, LHP (Charter Oak, 2027)
Lopez turned in two impressive starts for Charter Oak, earning wins over Arcadia and Walnut. The left-hander threw seven innings with two hits and four strikeouts in his first outing, then followed with five innings while allowing four hits and just one unearned run. Lopez continues to provide steady innings for the Charter Oak staff.
+ Matthew Stout, SS (Royal, 2026)
Stout delivered a clutch moment at the plate in Royal’s win after driving in the go-ahead run with a double off a TCU-committed pitcher who had been dominant throughout the game. Stout finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and a single while playing clean defense in the field.
+ Martin Luna III, INF (Charter Oak, 2026)
Luna had a big offensive showing in the win over Walnut, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Across four games during the week, Luna collected eight hits including four doubles and a triple while driving in eight runs. His consistent production helped anchor the Charter Oak lineup.
+ Damian Catano, RHP (Arcadia, 2026) — St. Mary’s commit
Catano delivered a strong start in Arcadia’s 1-0 victory over Ayala. The right-hander tossed 6.1 shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out five. Catano’s performance kept the opposition off the board and helped secure the narrow win.
+ Cody Brossard, RHP (Moorpark, 2026)
Brossard played a key role in Moorpark’s comeback win over Rio Mesa. The right-hander tossed four scoreless innings out of the bullpen to secure the victory. On the season, Brossard has thrown eight innings with a 0.00 ERA.
+ Damian Martinez, C/P/OF (Arrowhead Christian Academy, 2028)
Martinez had a strong all-around week for Arrowhead Christian Academy. At the plate he hit .583 with seven hits and a 1.199 OPS. On the mound he added 4.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts, while also contributing defensively behind the plate across seven innings.
+ Christian Saenz, UTIL (Paraclete, 2028)
Saenz helped lead Paraclete to three consecutive wins with a productive week at the plate. The utility player went 5-for-10 with two doubles, four runs scored, and six RBIs. Saenz finished the week hitting .500 with a 1.105 OPS.
+ Jarett Hacknev, C/3B (Twelve Bridges, 2026) — William Jessup commit
Hackney provided the power in Twelve Bridges’ win over Hughson. The catcher went 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBIs in the game. His ability to drive the baseball for extra bases proved to be the difference in the victory.
+ Jacob Webster, SS (Oak Hills, 2026) — Loyola Marymount commit
Webster supplied the power for Oak Hills during the week with two home runs and a triple. The shortstop currently holds a .312 batting average with a .450 OBP and .875 slugging percentage. Webster continues to be a key offensive contributor for the Oak Hills lineup.
+ BJ Brooks, RHP (La Habra, 2027)
Brooks tossed a complete-game shutout in La Habra’s 3-0 win over Banning. The right-hander allowed just three hits while striking out five and faced the minimum 21 batters across his outing. Brooks threw 69 pitches, including 52 strikes, in the dominant performance.
+ Eric Sotelo, RHP (Oak Hills, 2026) — Bemidji State commit
Sotelo turned in another strong outing on the mound, striking out seven while allowing just one run. The right-hander continues his consistent season and currently holds a 1.24 ERA.
+ Wyatt Richardson, OF/RHP (St. Bonaventure, 2028)
Richardson contributed on both sides of the ball during a three-win stretch for St. Bonaventure. At the plate he delivered multiple hits including a triple, while driving in runs and scoring throughout the week. On the mound, Richardson threw six shutout innings with ten strikeouts in a win over Malibu.
+ Ryan Novajoski, RHP/OF (El Modena, 2026)
Novajoski turned in a strong performance on the mound in a win over Palm Desert. The right-hander tossed five innings allowing just two hits while striking out six. At the plate he added a game-winning RBI and is currently hitting .625 with six RBIs on the season.
+ Cash Ferinac, RHP (El Modena, 2027)
Ferinac delivered a dominant outing against Citrus Valley. The right-hander recorded the first nine outs of the game via strikeout and finished with six innings of shutout baseball. Ferinac struck out 11 while allowing six hits and one walk.
+ Brody Kaylor, SS/RHP (Buena, 2026)
Kaylor powered the Buena offense during the week. The shortstop went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBIs, and two runs scored in one game and added two doubles and three RBIs in another. Kaylor also contributed on the mound with an inning pitched and two strikeouts.
+ Ian Gladue, SS (Esperanza, 2028)
Gladue had a productive week for Esperanza, going 8-for-15 with a .533 average, six runs scored, two RBIs, and four doubles. The shortstop also earned the win in extra innings out of the bullpen and went 4-for-5 in a strong showing against Valencia.
+ Evan Kim, C/OF (Foothill, 2027)
Kim delivered an impactful week at the plate, going 4-for-13 with three doubles, a home run, eight RBIs, four runs scored, and three stolen bases. His production helped drive the Foothill offense during the stretch.
+ Grady Wright, RHP (Foothill, 2026)
Wright played a key role on the mound with two wins during the week. The right-hander threw 3.2 scoreless innings in relief to secure a win against Wilson and followed with five innings without allowing an earned run in a victory over Los Alamitos. Wright finished the week with 8.2 innings pitched and zero earned runs allowed.
+ Jacob Torres, RHP (Corona Centennial, 2026) — Nevada commit
Torres dominated in the league opener against Roosevelt. The right-hander tossed 6.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out 12. Torres controlled the game throughout his start and helped Centennial secure the victory.
+ Elijah Rucker, SS (Oakland Tech, 2027)
Rucker powered the Oakland Tech offense with an explosive two-game stretch. The shortstop went 4-for-10 with three home runs and nine RBIs while posting a .400 batting average. Rucker also played clean defense with a perfect fielding percentage.
+ Dylan Yencho, 1B (Laguna Beach, 2026)
Yencho made an immediate impact at the start of the season with a two-run home run in his first at-bat of the year. Across three games he is hitting .615 with three doubles, a home run, six RBIs, and three runs scored, including a walk-off hit in extra innings against El Toro.
+ Rourke Julio, RHP/3B/OF (Vista Murrieta, 2029)
Julio provided valuable innings out of the bullpen, throwing three scoreless innings in high-leverage situations. On the season he has logged 7.2 innings with a 1.05 ERA while consistently being called upon in key moments.
+ Landon Hovermale, RHP (Norco, 2026) — GCU commit
Hovermale has been dominant on the mound early in the season. The right-hander owns a 2-0 record with 23 strikeouts across 12.2 innings while maintaining a 0.00 ERA.
+ DJ Gonzalez, C (El Diamante, 2028)
Gonzalez had a perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs, and a run scored. The catcher also stole a base and played strong defense behind the plate, allowing no stolen bases and committing no passed balls.
+ Caden Wise, RHP (Fullerton Union, 2026)
Wise turned in two dominant starts with wins over Edison and Kennedy. Across the outings he threw eight innings while allowing no earned runs and striking out eleven while walking just two.
+ Adyen Katuszonek, RHP/SS (Rosamond, 2027)
Katuszonek delivered one of the most impressive performances of the week, tossing a 10-inning complete game no-hitter with only one walk while striking out 22. The two-way standout also contributed offensively with five hits, four RBIs, and a home run.
+ Gary Morse, RHP (Orange Lutheran, 2026) — Tennessee commit
Morse delivered a dominant outing on the mound, tossing five innings while allowing just one hit and striking out eight. The Tennessee commit continues to show the ability to overpower hitters with his strikeout stuff.
+ Brady Murrietta, C (Orange Lutheran, 2026) — Texas commit
Murrietta contributed offensively in the win, going 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, and a stolen base. The catcher continues to be a consistent contributor for the Orange Lutheran lineup.
+ Kai Bratton, RHP (Mater Dei, 2026) — Tennessee commit
Bratton delivered a strong outing in Mater Dei’s 3-0 win over Temecula Valley. The right-hander tossed six shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven without issuing a walk.
+ Anderson Vo, RHP (Cosumnes Oaks, 2026) — Concordia (NE) commit
Vo was reliable out of the bullpen during the week, closing two games while allowing just one hit. The right-hander struck out seven batters and did not allow a run in the appearances.
+ Michael Bourtayre, OF (Cosumnes Oaks, 2028)
Bourtayre contributed at the plate during the week, hitting .333 while helping his team offensively. On the season, he is hitting .417 with six hits.
+ Diesel Douglass, OF (Murrieta Valley, 2026)
Douglass delivered a strong week at the plate, collecting multiple hits, including a 2-for-3 performance with three RBIs and two stolen bases against Patriot. The outfielder is currently hitting .538 on the season and has recorded a stolen base in four consecutive games.
