Notable Recaps from Tuesday
Chelsea (3) vs. Mountain Brook (2)
In a marquee matchup between Class 6A powers, No. 2 Chelsea walked it off in extra innings to defeat No. 3 Mountain Brook on Tuesday. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Luke Neill was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the winning run and cap off a tightly-contested battle between two of the state’s top teams. Both clubs leaned heavily on their pitching staffs throughout the night, but Chelsea’s arms ultimately stole the show, combining for 19 strikeouts in the win. Neill delivered one of the top performances of the night, entering in relief and tossing 7.2 scoreless innings while striking out 13 to earn the win. At the plate, Jordan Garcia led the Hornets with two hits, while Neill and Brandon Bousman each drove in a run. Chelsea also showed patience offensively, drawing eight walks, four of which from freshman Bryant Wisdom, and playing a clean defensive game behind their pitching staff to secure the extra-inning victory. For Mountain Brook, Luke Houser collected an RBI, while Hunter Davis, Luke Houser, and Jack Houser each recorded a hit. The Spartans also applied pressure on the bases, swiping seven stolen bases, but Chelsea’s pitching depth proved to be the difference in a matchup that lived up to the billing.

Russellville struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a wild pitch and a defensive miscue to plate two runs. The Golden Tigers added another run in the sixth inning when Tristan Ray connected for a solo home run to center field, briefly giving Russellville the lead before Mars Hill’s late rally. Carter Hamm earned the win in relief for Mars Hill Bible, allowing one run on two hits across two innings while striking out two.
