Luke Busse is a close follow for us as the younger brother of Jake Busse, who was featured on our top fastball list and is reportedly up to 96 mph this offseason. Luke appears to be on a similar trajectory, but what really stands out is his ability to spin the baseball.
At the Central Super Sophomore Games, Busse’s fastball topped at 83 mph and spun up to 2,300 RPM. He has a long, lean 6-foot-6, 200-pound frame and is still learning how to fully use his levers.
Busse also owns one of the best sliders we’ve seen, a true change-of-pace, big-breaking pitch. At the Super Sophomore Games, his slider averaged 2,000 RPM and reached as high as 2,500 RPM. At its best, it showed -22 inches of horizontal break and -4 inches of vertical break, giving it massive movement.
As Busse continues to get stronger and polish his delivery, we expect the velocity to climb and the slider to become more consistent. With his current spin traits, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him eventually push into the 3,000 RPM range, creating a potentially deadly combination.
