The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Flint Hill

Logan Lucca OF / 1B / Flint Hill, VA / 2026

Strong physical frame but also moves very well on the bases and defensively with that frame. Gets good jumps and breaks on the bases and in the field. At the plate, it is a short swing path that works gap to gap with strength at contact. Shows easy extra base power and is comfortable working the middle of the field with hard line drives instead of hunting pull power, which works better for him and is an approach that will carry over to college well.

Zach Rachinsky 1B / OF / Flint Hill, VA / 2027

Tall athletic frame with room to add strength. Has a short swing and a strong contact point and showed barrel feel throughout the game. Gap to gap hitter with some doubles power and more in the tank if he adds strength.

Jefferson Speakes 1B / LHP / Flint Hill, VA / 2028

Lankier athletic frame with a lot of room to add strength. A line-drive hitter right now with some barrel feel but a chance to add some extra-base power as he fills out and develops.

Jefferson Forest

Parker Deaner C / 2B / Jefferson Forest High, VA / 2027

Strong physical catcher. Quiet setup at the plate with intent and strength present. Put together competitive at-bats working two walks and a single. Flashed some arm strength, erasing a runner in the earlier innings.

Liberty Christian

Michael Clark Breedlove OF / 1B / Liberty Christian Academy , VA / 2026

A long arm action at a 3/4 slot with some deception from the mixed tempo delivery. Fastball heavy mix at 87-88 in the first inning of work with some late armside run, and settled in at 85-87. Swing and miss ability with the slider showing some late 10/4 break at 76-78. Changeup was 80-82. Also produced a leadoff double in the later innings and would score to extend the lead.

Maret

Grant King 1B / LHP / Maret, VA / 2027

King has a strong frame and works from a tall, upright stance. He is short to contact and has a lot of strength at the contact point. He shows extra base power to all fields, and he is up hill through contact, which will generate loft and carry on his batted balls.

DJ Lee II OF / SS / The Maret School, VA / 2029

A lot to like about the frame and the projection that it shows. Showed comfort being in 2-strike counts in the game, hunted damage with big swings early in the count, and then shortened up a bit to get bat on ball when behind. Hammered a few balls in the game, a very short, very quick swing. The bat and hands are fast through the zone, allowing a late decision point. There is a lot to like here, and he showed barrel consistency throughout the game.
