X-FACTOR
RHP/1B Tyson Grulkowski (2026, South Florida signee) the talent on the mound is unquestioned, also has a history of performing on the varsity level going back to his freshman year. Also serving as a middle of the order bat that can also potentially lead the Warriors in both RBIs and extra-base hits.
NEWCOMER TO WATCH
Cooper Wendt (2027, South Dakota State commit) while not a “newcomer” necessarily the path for regular playing time for Wendt last spring was blocked but was a versatile piece that was regularly deployed off of the bench for the Warriors. More opportunity inside the lineup heading into his junior year the right-handed hitter could impact the lineup as well as provide quality defense at a number of spots across the diamond.
TEAM OUTLOOK
Muskego entered last spring as the top-ranked team in Wisconsin and spent most of the regular season proving that the Preseason Power 25 does not hand out state championships. The Warriors finished in a three-way tie for third place in the Classic 8 conference, a result that obscured just how dangerous this group could be when healthy, focused and operating at full throttle. When the postseason arrived, it all clicked. Muskego won the WIAA Division 1 State Championship, finishing 23-9 overall, and became the first Wisconsin program to earn a spot on the Prep Baseball National Top-50 heading into 2026. The reigning champs return an extraordinary collection of talent, and head coach Jacob Paige said the group's senior class will be counted on to set the tone from day one.
"We are counting on our seniors to provide great leadership and bring along our young and inexperienced players so they are ready to compete when it matters most," Paige said.
The player at the center of everything is RHP/1B Tyson Grulkowski (2026), who was one of the premier pitchers in the state a year ago and has since elevated himself into the MLB Draft conversation. Grulkowski went 9-1 in 53.1 innings last spring with a 1.18 ERA, a 0.83 WHIP and 86 strikeouts, and he was selected to the Prep Baseball All-American Game last September as one of the best players in the Class of 2026 in the country. He is a force at the plate as well, giving Muskego a two-way option unlike anything else in the state. Flanking him at the top of the rotation is OF/RHP Ben Kuglitsch (2026; Florida State), whose senior spring will be watched closely by college and professional evaluators alike. Kuglitsch hit .325 with two triples and 22 RBIs while pitching 29.0 innings on the mound with a 2.41 ERA last season, and his combination of speed, arm strength and bat make him one of the most athletic and tooled-up players to come through a Wisconsin high school in recent memory. LHP Mason Horn (2027; Purdue) rounds out the top three on the staff, and it says everything about this team's depth that Horn, who posted a 1.59 ERA over 22.0 innings last spring and has the feel and command to neutralize any lineup in the state, slots in behind two legitimate national-caliber arms. RHP Dylan Jeske (2026; UW-Stout) and RHP/1B Jack Tschudy (2026; UW-Stevens Point) provide additional high-end relief depth, and they'd even be go-to starters on virtually every other team in the state. OF/RHP Callen Tomsyck (2026; South Dakota State) gives Paige yet another arm capable of handling innings when needed.
In terms of fresh faces, RHP Hunter Buchan (2027) tossed one of the loudest 'pens of the winter in front of our staff, spinning one of the best breaking balls in the state attached to a fastball up to 90 mph. It remains to be seen how he'll be deployed with so few innings to go around, but it's amazing that a talent like Buchan can be utilized like a luxury item capable of becoming a lights-out closer or something like it.
Offensively, Muskego is built to produce runs from multiple spots in the order. SS Kyle Rogosienski (2027; Vanderbilt), the state's current top-ranked junior, batted .324 with 13 RBI and 14 stolen bases last spring as the team's table-setter, and the expectation heading into 2026 is that he will turn more of those singles into extra-base hits as he came out of the winter looking much stronger physically while retaining all of his quick twitch traits. Tomsyck hit .333 with seven doubles, two triples, a home run and 15 RBI in 2025, and after a strong summer circuit he returns as one of the team's most reliable everyday bats. C Maddux Lessard (2026; Minnesota), a three-year starter who understands this pitching staff as well as anyone, adds another power threat in the middle of the lineup, and 3B/RHP Carter Nicolato (2026) gives Muskego yet another right-handed bat capable of doing damage, same goes for C/1B Ty Glysch (2026; UW-Oshkosh). C/INF/RHP Ben Haas (2027) flashed a left-handed swing worth monitoring that our staff really liked this winter, and it could factor into the everyday lineup as the season develops, or even from the mound where he excelled as well. MIF/OF Cooper Wendt (2027) is another junior whose breakout moment feels imminent, and if it arrives this spring it only deepens an already formidable offense. He is in an elite tier of athlete himself, one of several elite athletes on this roster.
The program does graduate meaningful contributors in Danny Hauboldt, Dean Staudacher and Aidyn Mueller, and coach Paige acknowledged that position depth remains the primary area to shore up as the roster comes together. But the collection of experience returning, headlined by four senior commitments to Division-I and Division-II programs, gives Muskego a foundation that is frankly unprecedented at the high school level in this state. A matchup with No. 2 Hudson at the Prep Baseball Wisconsin High School Invitational at The Rock on April 18 will be among the most anticipated games of the early spring. Every opponent on the schedule will circle its date against the reigning state champions, and that competitive edge, combined with the leadership Paige is counting on from his senior class, is precisely what figures to keep this group locked in from wire to wire.
BOTTOM LINE
The reigning WIAA Division 1 state champions return the most talented roster assembled in Wisconsin high school baseball history, and the ceiling here is a repeat title with national recognition to match. The only question is whether the depth at non-premium positions holds up long enough for the star power to carry Muskego back to a state title in June.
