2026 Clark County HS Kickoff Tournament - Player Notebook
March 26, 2026
This weekend, Prep Baseball staff were stationed across the greater Vancouver area to take in the second annual Clark County Baseballism HS Kickoff Tournament. The incredible event featured over 35 high school programs from Washington and Oregon, spread across multiple brackets over a three day stretch.
Prep Baseball staff was able to cover a majority of the teams over the weekend, gaining valuable insight on program strength and players to watch. Below, we highlight some of those standout performers, specifically looking at players from games covered. Players are listed by grad class.
2026's
RHP Eli Herst (Seattle Academy/Vanderbilt Commit)
The top-ranked senior in Washington and a two-time Prep Baseball All-American, Herst looked strong in his first live look of the spring. The 6'5 righty looked noticably stronger, with the arsenal on full display in an abbreviated outing. The fastball was thrown up to 93.4 MPH, paired with a slider flashing above average. A low 80's changeup was thrown as well, in addition to a new cutter added at 84-88 MPH. Herst's final line: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K. The senior also went 4-8 at the dish with a double and 3 RBI across two games played.
OF/LHP Brady Collins (Mount Vernon/Edmonds CC Commit)
Pitching led the way for MV all weekend long, and Collins got the Bulldogs off to a strong start on Friday. The lefty pounded the zone early with a fastball 83-86 MPH, with a slider and changeup relied upon in all counts as well. Collins spun 5 shutout innings, working around some traffic in the later frames with 7 punch outs. Collins also reached base twice with 2 runs scored atop the MV lineup. The 3A state champ will be critical on both sides of the baseball this spring.
RHP Luke Jenisch (Columbia River/Skagit Valley Commit)
The righty delivered a gutsy performance on the mound to help Columbia River win the Stan Spencer Bracket on Saturday. A more compact-framed athlete, Jenisch featured a low-to-mid 80's fastball with two distinct breakers, working the bottom part of the zone sucessfully. The overall operation was clean from both the wind and the stretch, with a low, longer break into a 3/4 slot release with arm speed out front. Final line: 6.2 IP, 5 H, R, 2 BB, 8 K.
RHP Camden Jones (Skyview)
A high octane arm that was a big winner in the preseason, Jones cemented his status as one of the top remaining senior arms in the class over the weekend. The sturdy-strong 5'11 arm took some time to find the strike zone, but once he did he induced whiffs up in the zone with a fastball 88-90 T91 MPH. The slight cross-body fire with a 3/4 slot release gave some ride and run on the offering, which he relied on heavily. The slider flashed at times in the low 70's, at its best when thrown to his glove side, and a firm CH was mixed in occasionally. Threw 4.1 IP with 9 K overall.

INF Baird Brewer (Mount Vernon/Seattle U Commit)
A key returner for the defending 3A state champs, we've seen Brewer many times now, and each time he seems to deliver. Few players found as much success offensively as the righty, going 1-3 with a barrelled double and 2 RBI in game one and 3-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI in game two. The quiet setup and quicker, sudden path paired with strength through contact allows for adjustability and a knack for finding the barrel, collecting hits against some high-end arms this weekend.
INF/P Brandon Stone (East Valley/Washington State)
Quick look at Stone this weekend but it was great to see the live stuff on the mound. 2-way athlete with twitch and athlete traits, Stone has an exceptionally talented arm and it showed on the bump. Attacking with mostly FB when we were locked in, he sat 88-90 and touched 91. Works from a ¾ slot with ride/carry into the upper half of the zone. Pairs with a sharp SL that has late sweeping action.
INF/P Christopher Moore (Kentlake/Washington)
2-4, 2 R, RBI, BB on Friday night. Moore stayed in his approach and consistently waited for strikes he could handle and when he got them he was able to deliver the barrel on time. Hits with an athletic forward move after he gathers with a low leg lift. Hands load to create stretch against front side and give him adjustability in the swing.

RHP Dylan Hoots (Fife/Columbia Basin)
Hoots flashed some arm talent on the bump on Friday in a shorter outing. Ran the FB up to 87, pitching 85-86. Worked from a higher ¾ release and also shaped a 11/5 breaking ball up the upper 70s. Good size to grow into and add strength. Live arm.
RHP Colman Balda (Steilacoom)
Had a short look at Balda in this one as he made a brief 2 inning relief appearance. But he flashed intriguing stuff and has quality size to work with at 6’3 - 6’4. FB was 80-84 with CB 74-77 and CH 76-77. Worked around some freebies but punched out 4 in 2 IP.
P/INF Ben Wartinger (Ridgeline/Tacoma CC)
Pitched 3 strong innings on Friday night and had the swing and miss stuff working. Finished with 6 K and didn’t allow an earned run. Overall continues to show quality feel for spin and has confidence in his SL in all counts. Should be a constant at the top of the rotation for the Falcons this year. Also contributed in a big way at the plate, going 3-4, 2 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI.

Spun 3 innings with 6 K’s and no earned runs last night. High pitchability, change of speeds righty out of Spokane@BWartinger pic.twitter.com/5ePMawU3U5
INF Mikey Macall (Ridgeline/Tacoma CC)
Macall had a 3 hit day on Friday night with a 2B and 4 R. Polished hitter with a simple approach in the box. Macall has always displayed a knack for controlling the barrel and utilizing his bat to ball skills. This look was no different as we saw him work to both gaps in game play while consistently squaring up the ball.
OF Caleb Tortora (Ridgefield/Mt. Hood CC)
Tortora went off at the plate in their final game on Saturday, racking up a 3-4 day with a 2B, 2 R and RBI. The senior has a mature overall game with a clean, compact stroke at the plate and easy juice. Does a nice job letting the ball travel and stays in his legs. Barrel shows depth in the zone and helps his power play gap to gap.
2027's
OF Luke Overbay (Tumwater/Michigan Commit)
The Future Games alum and one of the top juniors in the state, Overbay did it all across two games played. In game one, Overbay caught the eye of Prep Baseball VP of Scouting Shooter Hunt, noting a 6'2 frame that stood out paired with a whippy-quick arm action. The FB was 85-88 MPH with heavier life, paired with a low 70's CH with real upside. Offensively, the workman-like approach was successful in game two, delivering one of the hardest hit balls we've seen this spring with a double to RCF. The barrel really stays through the zone well with a flatter path and two-handed finish, allowing the larger frame to generate natural power. Must-follow.

Future Games alum now 2-3 including a missile double to RCF. 6’2 frame continuing to add strength. Dynamic two-way ability@ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/xsFLQdDQRf
OF Hunter Flory (Skyview)
In what were a quieter couple of games for the Skyview offense, Flory was a bright spot in both games. A multi-sport athlete with some quickness in the outfield, Flory featured a mory handsy swing with a short path and abbreviated finish. In game one, the junior reached base three times with a single and two walks. In game two, Flory was more aggressive early in counts, resulting in a clutch single to drive in two of the three Skyview runs that game.
INF Noah Kwon (Lake Washington)
The smooth, well-rounded junior has gotten some buzz with a hot bat in the preseason and early part of the spring, and he carried this momentum into a successful tournament in Vancouver. In game one, the leadoff man laced a double the other way, showcasing what looked to be more speed than our last look. In game two, Kwon was all over the box score, finishing 1-2 with a single, 2 runs and 2 walks in addition to making multiple hustle plays. The defending 4A champ will be a key player for the Kangs for the next two seasons.
INF Cooper McGowan (Battle Ground/Oregon State)
How about reaching base 7 times in 2 games? The FG alum and Oregon State commit was exceptional at the plate over the weekend to help lead the way for the Tigers. McGowan did well not to expand while staying aggressive on his pitches in the zone, going 2-2 with 2 singles and 3 walks on Friday. He then followed with a 2-4 game on Saturday, including a double to cap off his strong showing. The junior played with a noticable confidence and moxie in all facets. He also logged 2 innings with 2 punch outs on the mound. Dominant player out of the southern part of the state.
RHP Gunnar Rindal (Mount Vernon)
A long, lean 6'6 righthander seen at PNW Preseason All-State this winter, Rindal was incredibly efficient en route to a win on the mound in Vancouver. The junior arm generates ride on his fastball up in the zone in the low to mid 80's, paired with a CH/SL as well. Rindal had a nice blend of quick outs and strikeouts. Final line: 6 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K, 75 pitches/54 strikes.
P/INF Xzyyvn Martinez (Othello)
Martinez put together a strong, gritty performance on Friday and built on the momentum he showed in our preseason look back in February. Final line of 7 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 11 K. Spotted up the FB at 84-85, topping 86 on a standard balmy and chilly PNW day. The SL was a difference maker and gives him a true ‘k’ pitch that he manipulates easily and throws with noticeable confidence. One of the more consistent and polished arms left in 2027 class.

OF/1B/P Liam Gustafson (Tumwater)
Another ‘winner’ from the preseason who showed gains across the board and continues to trend up. Liam had a 2-3 day with a R scored from the leadoff spot. Overall he has a quick, level and powerful left-handed swing with easy bat speed. Stays tall throughout and gives himself added leverage. Strong left-handed bat to follow in the class.
INF Jacob Lawrence (Kentlake)
Lawrence put together a great offensive game on Friday night, going 3-3, 2B, 3 R, 2 BB. A lean built athlete, Lawrence has smooth, fluid actions on the diamond with some more upside to tap into. At the plate, he has quick, loose hands with a rhythmic barrel prior to his swing. Sprayed contact in this one and maintained a mature, ‘hitterish’ approach.
RHP Emmett Goodman (WF West)
Goodman was a silent assassin on the bump Saturday. Easily working into the 5th inning without allowing a hit or run. Finished with a final line of 4.2 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Did a consistent job of peppering his glove side with a FB, SL combo and forcing RHH to make an adjustment to the outside corner. Simple, methodical approach. Innings eater.
INF Luke McMillan (WF West)
Junior third baseman had a 3-3 day with a 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI. Hits from a taller, more upright set up and utilizes his leverage at the dish with a strong front side. Overall showed sound pitch selection and a mature approach on this look.
2028's
INF Collin McGowan (Battle Ground)
One of the most highly regarded sophomores in the area, McGowan fit the bill as a premier talent and will be sure to be on recruiter's radars come August 1st. McGowan towers over fellow players on the field with a physical, long-limbed frame that profiles well at 3B. Early on, he made a pair of exceptional plays attacking ground balls and making accurate throws on the run. He also added 3 RBI with a single in game one. His better offensive game came on Saturday, where he finished 3-4 with 2 hard-hit doubles. The righty also toed the mound, where he ran a fastball up to 88 MPH. Must-follow.

Ultra-physical sophomore with plus raw strength helps drop this one in off the end. Defense has stood out in a big way early with multiple rangy plays at 3B. Must-follow in the class… pic.twitter.com/5XlS8LPVj2
INF Kade Acker (Tumwater)
Acker tallied a double in each of his two games played, showcasing a nice boost in his power profile since his previous look. More of a 2B in the short term, he displayed sound actions defensively with quicker actions turning two in particular. The swing is compact and efficient, with bend in his levers and a firm front side at contact paired with more of a pull-heavy approach. Intriguing piece to a talented 2A side.
INF Lincoln Moore (Kentlake)
The top-ranked sophomore in the state, Moore was on his game in Kentlake's first contest on Friday. Hitting in the three hole, Moore finished 3-4 with a run and 2 RBI in their 11-0 victory. Moore's swing held controlled aggression early in counts with more of a line drive approach, showing the ability to hit to all fields at times as well. Moore was in center field in this look but remains one of the most talented middle INF gloves in the area.
SS Wyatt Hoffman (WF West)
Hoffman had one of the more impressive performances we saw over the weekend and while he was certainly ‘under the radar’ when it came to our looks, we will not be forgetting his name any time soon. Multi-sport prospect with a lean, wiry build and athletic frame. Stood out in pre-game with actions and arm from SS then carried over the momentum into the game with a smooth left-handed swing and QABs throughout the day. Finished 1-2, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB.
C Joseph Bense (Lynden)
A top 10 player in the 2028 class. Bense has been a standout both defensively and with the bat across multiple showcases as well as game play events. Had the chance to see him produce a multi-hit game on Saturday and got a look at the in-game power as well on his oppo 2B into RCF.

Gets a pitch up in the zone that he can handle. Hands stay above the ball with extension after contact. Easy bat speed @Joebense28 @LYNDENBASEBALL pic.twitter.com/YTEr1wgmyZ
OF/P Bryce Donckers (Kentlake)
Two-way prospect was great on the mound in this look and also contributed a 2-3 performance on offense with a R and RBI. Went 5 innings on the mound allowing only 2 hits, 0 R, 2 BB and 1 K. Efficient outing. Worked around some traffic and kept putting up zeroes. FB/CUT/SL arsenal really worked in the bottom of the zone and kept inducing weak contact.
2029's
OF Brigham Jones (Mount Vernon)
It's rare to see a freshman start for a defending state champion, let alone produce when he does get a start. Jones was able to do both in Vancouver, tallying a hit and RBI in each of their two games. The compact-framed lefty is more contact over power currently, carrying a fundamentally sound swing that should grow into more bat speed and pop. The approach was mature and advanced for his age, shortening up when behind to drive in a runner. Jones fits well in a corner OF role with some speed and developing arm strength. Young player to keep an eye on.
C Isaiah Rodriguez (Tumwater)
The freshman's defense really stood out in their close loss to Columbia River. Rodriguez displayed a calm, steady demeanor at the catcher position, stealing pitches on the edges with strong frames and minimal wasted movements. He also showed sound fundamentals blocking and controlling the run game when he could. Though he logged just one at bat, Rodriguez has offensive ability seen in a showcase setting and should be a regular in the lineup before long.
SS Greyson Garza (Steilacoom)
Freshman standout put together a strong performance at a preseason event in February and enhanced his stock even more with how he handled himself in game. Defensively he took care of the routine plays at SS and overall carries a nice fluidity to his game. Sound glove hand with easy transition into throwing.
