Wisconsin Scouting Staff

On March 15th, Prep Baseball Wisconsin hosted one of its largest events on the state’s showcase calendar: the Madison Preseason ID at GRB Academy in Windsor, Wis. Over 130 players from across the state met in the Madison area to participate in this event, a Preseason ID that consistently provides our staff with need-to-know names and players to consider for future invite-only events, like the PBR Future Games, among others.

Today, we’ll be highlighting the players who stood out here within this Quick Hits piece. Stay tuned throughout the week as we continue to break down the in-depth metrics measured at this event, with the help of our tech partners TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Vizual Edge. Each of the players listed below are uncommitted unless stated otherwise.

Class of 2027

POSITION PLAYERS

+ MIF Brady Helms (Hartford, 2027): Boasts an ultra-athletic 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame that will continue to add physical strength. Starting from a wide base, the right-handed hitter utilizes a path that is short, fast, and direct to the zone, allowing him to leverage the baseball out front with authority to all fields. He backs up this quality contact with a max EV of 94 mph and an average EV of 87 mph, fueled by 73 mph average bat speed and 11g of average rotational acceleration. Proving to be a well-rounded athlete, the Penn State commit clocked a 6.92 in the 60-yard dash showing an athletic gait and quick turnover. On the dirt, plays with quick lateral movements and soft and reliable hands with a strong arm up to 87 mph through the target at first. It was another good look at Helms and he remains a top prospect in the state.

+ C Oliver Heckelsmiller (Verona Area, 2027): Possesses a strong 5-foot-9, 177.5-pound frame with a solid base that will continue to add physical strength. The left-handed hitter features an explosive bat path with loose and fluid actions through the zone, consistently barreling the baseball up to the big part of the field. He generated a max EV of 94 mph and an average EV of 87.4 mph. He moves very well for a backstop, recording a 7.15 in the 60-yard dash showcasing quick burst to his top speed. As impressive as the bat was, defensive is his calling card behind the dish. He showcased impressive feel for the pocket in receiving pitches, quickness down to block and the ability to really turn the baseball around to second base with pop times in the 1.93-2.06 range with a strong arm as his throws to second base were measured at 80 mph.

+ INF Jonny Deets (La Crosse Aquinas, 2027): The infielder features a strong 5-foot-9, 178-pound build that will continue to add physicality. The right-handed hitter works from a slightly open setup with rhythm and fluidity getting to the hitting position. Deets has a flat path with innate barrel feel to comfortably drive the baseball wherever it is pitched. Deets registered a max EV of 91 mph and an average EV of 83.6 mph. Defensively, he showcased lively and smooth footwork and gliding strides with clean one-handed gathers. Deets has the arm strength and feel on his throws to stick at shortstop as his throws across the infield were measured at 86 mph. He also ran a solid run time of 7.00-seconds during the 60-yard dash.

+ OF Camden Glusick (Sun Prairie East, 2027): Athletic 5-foot-11, 180-pound build with room to continue to add. The right-handed hitter displays serious barrel feel with a rhythmic move into a whippy path through the baseball that creates leverage out front. He posted a max EV of 94 mph and an average EV of 90.8 mph. Glusick showcased impressive foot speed to start the event, recording a swift 6.69 60-yard dash. Defensively, he is an athletic mover with clean and aggressive actions working through the baseball and driving the baseball with carry and accuracy through home.

+ OF Asher Schoonover (Craig, 2027): Possesses a wiry strong, athletic 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame that holds plenty of room for added mass. The right-handed hitter operates from a wide base with a rhythmic move back to the launch position, deploying a short, compact path that routinely produces hard line-drive contact through the baseball. He recorded a max EV of 92 mph and an average EV of 84.3 mph, paired with 67.4 mph of average bat speed and 14g of average rotational acceleration. A standout runner, he clocked a brisk 6.77 in the 60-yard dash to set the tone for his workout. Defensively, he showed a clean one-handed gather while working smoothly through the ball, and throws home topped 83 mph.

+ OF Brody Bjorklund (Baraboo, 2027): Is an athletic 6-foot-2, 182-pound outfielder with broad, sloped shoulders and plenty of room to continue to add physicality to his frame as he matures. At the plate the right-handed hitter took one of the more standout rounds of batting practice on the day, working on time throughout his round with feel to drive the ball to all fields, reaching a max EV of 95 mph and an average EV of 86.9 mph. 7.13 runner with arm strength and actions that play in the outfield

+ C Haaken Hovestol (Delavan-Darien, 2027): Possesses a strong, 6-foot-0, 186.7-pound frame with a strong lower half; he will continue to add throughout. The left-handed hitter sets up with a balanced and quiet move to the launch position into a smooth and fluid path through the zone that effectively elevates the baseball to all fields. He produced a max EV of 91 mph and an average EV of 84.1 mph. Showing quality athleticism he recorded a 7.16 in the 60-yard dash with a quick burst off the line and quick turnover once underway. Behind the plate, he featured a 1.99 second pop time with the ability to put the ball on the base. Also, he showed smooth and fluid hands in receiving pitches during bullpen work. It was another quality look overall at the left-handed hitting backstop.

+ 1B/OF James Radabaugh (Waunakee, 2027): Stands at a wiry and strong 6-foot-1, 201.7-pound frame that projects to continue adding muscle. The left-handed hitter works from a narrow, upright setup into a downhill path, backspinning the ball with authority as he drives it through the middle of the field. Radabaugh generated a max EV of 95 mph and an average EV of 87.1 mph, pairing a 71.4 mph bat speed with 14g of rotational acceleration.

+ C Max Stelter (Lake Mills, 2027): Showcasing a strong 6-foot-1, 198.9-pound build, physical, and a frame that should easily continue to add quality strength. The right-handed hitter works with a tight path to and through the baseball, getting long through the zone to consistently drive the ball wherever it is pitched. He produced a max EV of 92 mph and an average EV of 84.3 mph. Stelter also proved to be a standout athlete at the event, recording a swift 6.84 in the 60-yard dash. Behind the plate, his throws to second base were captured with pop times in the 2.00-2.02 range which is plenty quick to nab would-be basestealers.

+ INF Will Nikolay (De Pere, 2027): Features a strong, athletic 5-foot-9, 181-pound build. The right-handed hitter moves into a centered, balanced hitting position, showing an innate feel for the barrel to spray line drives to all fields. He delivered a max EV of 92 mph and an average EV of 84.7 mph, while his 68.9 mph average bat speed and 18g of rotational acceleration point to a high-upside offensive profile as he continues to add size and strength to his frame. Showed steady, reliable and soft hands fielding through the baseball with clean transfers in the infield. Throws across the infield were true and accurate through the target.

+ C/OF Levi Boivin (Neenah, 2027): Presents an athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds with considerable strength throughout. The right-handed hitter works from a slightly open setup into a well-sequenced, compact swing that consistently finds the barrel and drives the ball to all fields, producing a max EV of 92 mph and an average EV of 85.0 mph throughout his round. Showcasing his athleticism, he clocked a swift 6.88 in the 60-yard dash which is an impressive run time for a player of his size. On defense, throws to second base were measured at 79 mph, with pop times in the 1.95-2.07 range. Proved to have feel for the catching position during bullpen work with soft hands and the ability to find the pocket often when receiving pitches.

+ C Parker Frosch (Sauk Prairie, 2027): Standing at a strong and athletic 5-foot-10, 198 pounds, displaying a physical frame that should continue to add strength. The right-handed hitter operates from an upright, slightly open setup, delivering a well-sequenced path that utilizes the ground efficiently to produce jumping contact into both gaps with authority. During his round, he registered a max EV of 91 mph and an average EV of 84.3 mph, pairing 70.4 mph average bat speed with a 14g rotational acceleration. Defensively, he works well as a sturdy backstop and also offers the versatility to handle the outfield. Throws to second base were measured at 74 mph, with pop times in the 2.00-2.08 range.

+ OF Boden McGourthy (Marquette University, 2027): The strong, well-proportioned 6-foot-2, 197-pound athlete possesses an impressive frame that should continue to add physicality. At the plate, from the left side, gets loaded well into his back hip before unleashing a short, fast, and direct swing to the zone, produced a max EV of 96 mph and an average EV of 84.8 mph, pairing 71.7 mph average bat speed with 18.0 g of rotational acceleration during his round. The physical prospect started his workout by cruising to a solid 7.05-second 60-yard dash. Transitioning to the grass, the outfielder attacked the ball with authority, utilizing a confident one-handed gather before throws home topped 84 mph

+ OF Connor Kletsch (Watertown, 2027): Presenting a measured 5-foot-8, 172.2-pound frame and is a sturdy underclassman to follow. The right-handed hitter starts from a strong loaded position, utilizing a downhill bat path to consistently produce backspun line drives and showcase inherent feel for the barrel. He recorded a max EV of 85 mph and an average EV of 78.9 mph, pairing 66.3 mph bat speed with 7.0 g of rotational acceleration. A quality athlete, he showed off above-average foot speed by clocking a 6.86 60-yard dash. During his outfield evaluation, throws home topped 86 mph.

+ C Thomas Deskins (Brookfield Central, 2027): Presents a wiry, projectable 5-foot-11, 147-pound frame with plenty of room to add physical strength. The right-handed hitter operates from a slightly open setup with a balanced knee tuck, producing a flat bat path that allows him to backspin the baseball and drive it through the middle of the field. He showed well athletically by navigating the 60-yard dash in a quick 6.98 seconds. Defensively, throws to second base were measured at 78 mph, with pop times in the 1.94-2.10 range with feel to find the pocket receiving against quality arms during the bullpen portion of the workout.

TWO-WAY

+ INF/RHP Eli Dreier (Wisconsin Lutheran, 2027): Possesses a strong, physical 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame that should continue to add strength. The right-handed hitter uses his lower half well and leverages the ball out front consistently generating hard line-drive contact to all fields. He produced a max EV of 95 mph and an average EV of 88.7 mph, backed by 72.4 mph bat speed and 19g of rotational acceleration. Dreier recorded a 7.14-second 60-yard dash which is a quality run time for an athlete with his strong and sturdy frame. In the infield, he showcased clean actions with accurate throws across the infield that were measured at 86 mph. Operating strictly from the stretch with a dynamic and balanced delivery, he led the event in peak fastball velocity. His fastball sat 90-91 mph (2,300.0 rpm) with 15.8 inches of average induced vertical break, while his slider played at 75-77 mph (2,229.0 rpm) with sharp two plane breaking action. He also featured a 77-80 mph splitter that flashed late depth to round out an impressive arsenal. Dreier was one of the biggest winners on the day after his two-way performance.

+ 1B/RHP Eli Bauler (Monona Grove, 2027): Bauler possesses a strong 6-foot-2, 234.4-pound frame. The left-handed hitter sequences his swing well from the ground up, utilizing a smooth path to drive the baseball to all fields. He led the event across the board in batted-ball metrics with a max EV of 99 mph, an average EV of 91.9 mph, and a peak distance of 380.0 feet. Defensively, he shows soft hands and moves well around the bag, while throws across the infield were measured at 84.0 mph. On the mound, his fastball touched 88.0 mph with the ability to drive the ball through quadrants of the zone while his slider played at 75-77 mph with two plane breaking action. He also mixed in a changeup at 78-81 mph thrown with fastball intent.

+ RHP/OF Grayson Gauwitz (McFarland, 2027): Offers a projectable 6-foot, 171.5-pound frame. The right-handed hitter starts in a balanced setup, consistently working a downhill path to the baseball to produce hard contact and a clear feel for the barrel. He recorded a max EV of 90 mph and an average EV of 85.3 mph, paired with 68.4 mph average bat speed. A solid athlete, he ran a 7.08 60-yard dash and showed clean outfield actions where his throws home topped 89 mph. On the mound, the right-hander operates with a fluid, simple delivery to a tall balance point, throwing out of a loose high-3/4 slot. His fastball sat 82-85 mph, touching 86 mph (1,805 rpm) with 17.1 inches of average induced vertical break, while his curveball played at 69-71 mph (2,467 rpm) with 13.1 inches of horizontal movement. He rounded out his arsenal with a deceptive changeup at 75-77 mph (1,843 rpm) that featured hard arm-side fade.

PITCHERS

+ RHP Hunter Buchan (Muskego, 2027): Standing at an athletic 5-foot-11, 157-pound frame, presents a highly dynamic look on the mound. The right-hander operates with an up-tempo delivery with good lines and good balance, driving down the slope with a dynamic lower half ultra-quick arm. He drove the fastball through areas of the zone that sat 89-90 mph to set up the rest of his arsenal. His curveball played at 72-73 mph with two plane break and shape with a huge spin rate to the pitch (2,841 rpm) which led the entire event. He also commands a sweeping 77-80 mph slider that reached an event-leading 2,908 rpm max spin, alongside an 80-81 mph changeup featuring late fade and 18.0 inches of horizontal movement. It’s stand out stuff from the right-hander who is poised to have a big follow this spring.

+ RHP Maxwell Lubenow (Madison West, 2027): Possesses an imposing and highly projectable 6-foot-2, 187-pound frame. The right-hander features a balanced and repeatable delivery as he works his arsenal to home plate. His fastball sat 89-90 mph with feel to get the ball through all four quadrants. His curveball played at 75-77 mph (2,483 rpm) with two plane tilting break in the zone with sharp and late quality to the pitch making it a legitimate out-pitch weapon. He can comfortably land the pitch for strikes or bury below the zone. He rounds out a dynamic three-pitch mix with a firm changeup that sits 81-82 mph (1,994 rpm), displaying late bottoming action and 15.4 inches of horizontal movement while being thrown with heavy fastball intent. Lubenow is an arm our staff is excited about viewing this spring.

+ RHP Maddux Hermus (Kimberly, 2027): Standing at a measured 5-foot-11, 189 pounds, the right-handed hitter possesses a powerful frame. Working exclusively on the mound for this evaluation, operates with an intentful drop-and-drive delivery that utilizes his lower half to work directly in-line to the plate. Throws with a whippy and lightning quick arm through the ball generating significant life and carry through the strike zone. His fastball sat 87-88 mph (2,447 rpm) with forward life through the hitting zone.That average fastball spin rate explicitly led both the entire event. The curveball played at 74 mph (2,618 rpm) with sharp two-plane breaking action into and out of the hitting zone. Also featured a sharp slider at 75-76 mph (2,652 rpm) that showcased wipeout, 10/4 action with big sweeping lateral break to the pitch. Rounding out his impressive arsenal, flashed a changeup at 81-82 mph (2,095 rpm) that faded with 15.5 inches of horizontal movement creating huge separation between his breaking balls and change up allowing him to be effective against both handed hitters.

+ RHP Ashtyn Seifert (Beaver Dam, 2027): Boasting a projectable 6-foot-2, 177-pound frame, the right-handed hitter showcased immense upside on the mound during his bullpen. Operating from a high leg lift, Seifert works with balance over the rubber before landing in a slightly closed direction to home creating some torque and cross-fire deception. He works with noticeable arm speed through release creating whip and finish through the baseball. His fastball sat 87-88 mph (2,239 rpm) and he showed impressive feel for the zone, while his curveball played at 75-77 mph (2,317 rpm) with two-plane characteristics and quality feel for the pitch. He rounded out a strong pitch mix with a sharp slider at 78-79 mph (2,482 rpm) and a fading changeup at 79-81 mph (1,714 rpm) that featured 14.4 inches of horizontal movement. Seifert is a player our staff is excited to view this spring.

+ RHP Ethan Forrett (Craig, 2027): Standing at a highly projectable 6-foot-3, 211 pounds, the right-hander boasts an imposing presence on the mound. Forrett features a simple delivery with a medium leg lift and rhythmic move down the mound. The physical right-hander displays explosive arm speed the ball, releasing from a three-quarter and repeatable slot. His fastball sat 88-89 mph (2,344 rpm) with hard boring and running action to arm side with 15.3 inches of horizontal movement. He showcased impressive ability to spin a slider that played at 77-78 mph (2,445 rpm). He rounds out his arsenal with a firm splitter that sits 82-85 mph, showing late fading action that tunnels well off his heater and should play well to both handed hitters. Forrett features power stuff, repeats often and will be able to be highly effective against both handed hitters.

+ RHP Cael Wilke (Milton, 2027): Standing at a projectable 6-foot-3, 172 pounds, the right-hander brings an uptempo, dynamic and athletic delivery to the mound. Wilke operates with a tall balance point before moving down the slope with a loose, quick arm from a low-3/4 slot. His fastball sat 83-85 mph (2,109 rpm) with hard sink and run at the plate, while his slider played at 72-74 mph (2,277 rpm) with big breaking sweeping action at -16.1 inches of horizontal movement. Notably, the 18.5 inches of average horizontal movement on his heater explicitly tied to lead the entire event, showcasing aggressive, hard arm-side life. He rounded out his arsenal with a 76-79 mph changeup (1,799 rpm) that maintained arm speed and featured heavy fade to complement his fastball profile well. Attacking the zone with conviction, the righty showed advanced feel and sharp sweep on his slider to create consistently tough at-bats.

+ RHP Paul Schmolinske (Menasha, 2027): Standing at a physical 6-foot-2, 217-pounds, the right-hander presents an intimidating presence on the bump, operating with a high leg lift and a drop-and-drive delivery, utilizing an explosive lower half to generate power. Throwing from a high 3/4 slot with a quick arm, he lands slightly closed while maintaining strong direction toward home plate. His fastball sat 85-87 mph with feel to drive the fastball through areas of the zone, while his curveball played at 66-67 mph as he showed feel for the pitch. Rounding out his mix, his slider played at 70-74 mph (2,196 rpm) with 11.3 inches of horizontal movement, acting as a two-plane breaker that he consistently lands for strikes. Schmolinske has upside and our staff is looking forward to viewing him this spring.

+ RHP Christopher Holmes (Holmen, 2027): Standing at a measured 5-foot-11, 196 pounds, with a sturdy and physical frame. On the mound, he operates as a fluid, low-effort right-hander, utilizing a long, loose, and quick arm action from a high 3/4 release. His fastball sat 81-85 mph and topped out at 86 mph (1,944 rpm) with 16.1 inches of average induced vertical break, while his curveball played at 64-66 mph (2,193 rpm) with 12 inches of horizontal movement. He additionally showed distinct feel for a sweeper-type slider that sat 69-71 mph (2,121 rpm) with 10.7 inches of horizontal movement. Rounding out a highly projectable five-pitch mix, he flashed a short, slide-like cutter at 75-77 mph alongside a deceptive 71-75 mph changeup (1,659 rpm) that featured hard arm-side sink.

+ RHP Nelson Raciti (Brookfield East, 2027): Standing at 5-foot-10 and 176 pounds, Raciti presents a sturdy, projectable frame on the mound. The right-hander utilizes a medium leg-lift into his balance point, working downhill through a drop-and-drive delivery that stays well in-line toward the plate. He operates from a three-quarter slot with a quick, whippy arm action, generating natural arm-side run and sinker traits on his primary pitch. His fastball sat 83-84 mph (1,986 rpm) with 7.3 inches of average induced vertical break, while his slider played at 73-74 mph (2,876 rpm) with 17.5 inches of horizontal movement. Featuring a sweeper shape and clear wipeout potential, his slider explicitly led the entire event in average spin rate. Rounding out his three-pitch mix, he also flashed a 77-80 mph cutter that displayed a short, bullet shape through the zone. Consistently repeating his mechanics, he demonstrates a distinct feel to land his pitches in spots and execute throughout the zone.

+ LHP Sawyer Wightman (Turner, 2027): Is a projectable 6-foot-1, 172-pound frame that should continue to add strength as he matures. Operating with an uptempo delivery, a high knee tuck, and a coiled balance point, he works crossfire down the mound with a loose, three-quarter arm slot. His fastball sat 81-82 mph (1,929 rpm) with 14.1 inches of average induced vertical break, while his curveball played at 64-66 mph (2,106 rpm) with 11.5 inches of horizontal movement. He also spun a sweeping slider from 69-71 mph (2,016 rpm) with 14.5 inches of horizontal movement, demonstrating clear intent and the ability to locate. Rounding out a tough and deceptive mix, Wightman featured a changeup at 69-71 mph (1,529 rpm) that mirrored his fastball arm speed to generate late arm-side fade.

Class of 2028

POSITION PLAYERS

+ OF Ian McClure (Reedsburg Area, 2028): Features a super strong, athletic, and well-proportioned 6-foot-2, 216-pound frame. The right-handed hitter works from a wide base with a short, compact path that stays direct and quiet through the zone, yielding hard contact up the middle. He generated a max EV of 94 mph and an average EV of 85 mph, showcasing raw power that is well beyond his years, while pairing a 64.5 mph bat speed with 9g of rotational acceleration. A standout athlete for his age, he tied for the 2028 class lead with a blistering 6.79 in the 60-yard dash. Defensively, he flashed a quick arm from a three-quarter slot, and his throws home topped 89 mph.

+ SS/2B Mason Molitor (Reedsburg Area, 2028): Enters the profile with a wiry, developing 5-foot-9, 138-pound frame that will easily add mass as he matures. The left-handed hitter works from a quiet, leveraged setup to deliver a hitterish presence and an innate feel for the barrel, driving the baseball cleanly to all fields. On the dirt, the middle infielder flashes bouncy footwork and soft hands, working through the ball with natural actions and a confident glove. Accurate throws from a clean and athletic arm action that will continue to tick up as he matures physically.

+ INF Luke Tattersall (Waunakee, 2028): Presenting an athletic and strong 5-foot-11, 183-pound build, Tattersall has plenty of room to continue adding physical strength. The right-handed hitter starts in an upright setup, utilizing a whippy barrel out front to leverage the baseball and generate firm contact. His offensive output is backed by an 88 mph max EV and an 82.1 mph average EV, pairing those marks with 69.8 mph average bat speed and a high-upside, projectable base highlighted by 8.0 g of rotational acceleration. Defensively, he displays sure-handed actions with quick feet and clean transfers while playing low and through the baseball. Throws across the infield were measured at 75 mph.

+ OF/3B Ethan Colstad (New Glarus, 2028): Colstad possesses a highly projectable 6-foot-2, 172.2-pound frame. Operating from a wide, open base, the left-handed hitter features a flat swing with advanced barrel control and an ability to consistently generate hard contact. He recorded a max EV of 88 mph and an average EV of 83.5 mph, pairing a 67.3 mph bat speed with 14.0 g of rotational acceleration that points to a projectable base moving forward. + LHP/OF Braxton Thiede (Jefferson, 2028): Thiede features a compact, strong 5-foot-9, 170-pound frame. The right-handed hitter works from a wide, open base, unleashing a swing that is short, fast, and direct to the zone with the ability to naturally impact the baseball to all fields. He recorded a max EV of 89 mph and an average EV of 84.7 mph, pairing those metrics with 65.7 mph average bat speed and a 14.0 g rotational acceleration that indicates a highly projectable base. A solid athlete, he turned in a 6.94-second 60-yard dash, and his throws home topped 86 mph during defensive evaluations. On the mound, the southpaw utilizes a clean drop-and-drive delivery, showcasing advanced arm talent that stands out among his peers. His fastball sat 82-84 mph (2,008 rpm) with 18.1 inches of average induced vertical break, while his curveball played at 61-62 mph (1,950 rpm) with 7.1 inches of horizontal movement. A fading changeup rounded out his mix at 69-71 mph (1,554 rpm).

+ INF/RHP Kallen Magli (Sun Prairie West, 2028): Magli is an athletic 5-foot-8, 167-pound prospect with current strength and room to fill out. The right-handed hitter utilizes a loose, flat swing path to produce hard line-drive contact through the outfield. He stands out among his peers with a 91 mph max EV and an 86.1 mph average EV, pairing an average bat speed of 67.1 mph with 11.0 g of rotational acceleration.
