The high school baseball season is officially underway. This is our favorite time of the year and we can’t wait to cover the state from now until the state championship. Be sure to to be tuned in daily for content on the season.

Everything high school baseball related will be on the GHSA tab on our website. It can be found HERE. This will include the Power 25, Classification Rankings, weekly scout blogs and more.

Today, we are going to introduce a new piece of content called the “Daily Round Up”. Here we will take a look at the games our scouts went to from the previous day and highlight key moments, standout players and our takeaways from the game.

Alexander @ Villa Rica

Score: Villa Rica win, 6-1

Standouts:

Ben Gardner, RHP/C, 2026, Villa Rica

Jasper Best, OF, 2026, Villa Rica

Henry Brookshire, C, 2026, Villa Rica

Maddox Rodgers, SS, 2027, Villa Rica

Tristan Arrowood, SS, 2027, Villa Rica

David Jackson Jr., OF, 2026, Alexander

Key Moments:

Villa Rica came out swinging as they jumped on top to a 4-0 lead as they took advantage of a couple of errors and a 2-out RBI knock from Ben Gardner. The Wildcats scratched across another run in the 2nd behind a Tristan Arrowood single to make it 5-0. Austin Wilson walked in the 4th and came around to score on a couple of passed balls making it 6-0. The Cougars got on the board in the 5th as David Jackson Jr. came through with an RBI double cutting the deficit to 6-1. Ben Gardner was lights out for Villa Rica as he went the distance and only allowed 1-run in a win.

Avery’s Takeaway:

The Wildcats lineup stood out 1-9 as they are a scrappy bunch that knows what it takes to win. This upperclass heavy group has a talented core that can lean on anyone in the lineup on any given night. As big performances came from 1, 3, 7 and 8 in the lineup. Ben Gardner gives the Wildcats a formidable workhorse atop the rotation and if the pieces can come together behind him this will be a sleeper team to watch come the postseason. Alexander made a couple of mistakes defensively and ultimately split the series, but this is a club that has been playing quality ball of late as they will look to bounce back.

Gatewood @ Druid Hills
Score: 8-7, Gatewood wins
Standouts:
Ben Brannen, OF, 2026, Gatewood

Jayden Moss, 1B, 2028, Gatewood

Lawson Moore, OF, 2028, Gatewood

Ben Pearson, RHP, 2028, Gatewood

Ryder Sibly, INF, 2026, Druid Hills

Key Moments:
The Gatewood offense was up and running from the start. Ben Brannen kicked off the game with a single followed by singles from Lawson Moore and Connor Mitchem. Brady Haley then delivered a backside double. They would cap off the first with a 4 run innings. Both teams would go back and forth with a run here and there until 5th where Hunter Pierce delivered a 2 RBI single with the INF in. Druid Hills ended up sparking a potential 7th inning comeback with a backside double with the bases loaded by Ryder Sibly. Blake Brannen would end up working out of it with the tying run on 1st base to get the win 8-7. Ben Pearson gets the win on the mound for the Gators.

Huddy’s Takeaway:
This was my first look at Gatewood this spring and it was no different from the state championship game I saw last year, they can hit the baseball. They are strong 1-9 with power bats in the middle with Jayden Moss, Lawson Moore and Connor Mitchem. The line up is littered with underclassmen, led by the lone senior, Ben Brannen. They all have great approaches at the plate, and look to hit early in the count. Coach Moss is well on his way to another state title and we will look forward to seeing them again down the stretch.
