Each week, our staff updates the Power 25 and provides key talking points from last week's games. This week, we see the top five remain the same, as four new teams jump inside the top 25.

Talking Points

  • Calvert Hall and Archbishop Spalding dominate at the top. Calvert Hall outscored Loyola, 25-5 in their three-game set, and Spalding outscored McDonogh, 38-9 in their three-game set. A huge week flexing their muscles last week sets up one of the more anticipated matchups all year, as CHall and Spalding lock horns for three games this week.
  • Walter Johnson and Oakdale prove their worth. The top two public schools remain the same this week, as WJ outscored opponents, 37-5, and Oakdale showed that they can win competitive matchups against formidable opponents.
  • Competitiveness across Anne Arundel County. It seems that anybody can beat anybody across AA County, as we have seen numerous upsets already through the first couple weeks of the public school season. Crofton has picked up huge upsets early on, and powerhouses in Severna Park, Broadneck, and Chesapeake have dropped surprising games.

Winners

  • Sherwood bounced back after a tough opening day with three straight wins last week, outscoring teams, 36-4.
  • Huntingtown went through a gauntlet of a week across the SMAC, defeating two highly touted teams in Patuxent and McDonough.
  • Stephen Decatur flexed their muscles last week, and showcased the ability to win close games with a walk-off win against James M. Bennett on Tuesday. Decatur now sits at 4-0 early on this spring.
  • Parkside continues to route teams on the eastern shore, scoring 48 total runs last week and now sit at 4-0. A Rams team making a strong push as being one of the top bayside teams early on this spring.
  • Following an opening day win over Severna Park, Crofton backed it up with three really nice wins over Old Mill, Broadneck, and North County. This sky-rockets the Cardinals inside the Top 25 for the first time this spring.

Seeking Improvement

  • Chesapeake dropped a game of the year this week to a tough South River program and will look to avenge the loss as they head into the spring break week.
  • Severna Park is in a dog-fight in a game that is not yet finished with Northeast, as the Falcons trail 8-7 in the 7th inning of a suspended game. The Falcons bounced back nicely after a opening day loss to Crofton with a win over North County, and finished their week with a route of Severn Run.
  • Damascus has gone through the gauntlet early on this spring, with games against Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Oakdale, Urbana, and Magruder. The Swarmin' Hornets are 2-2 through those four, and look to right this ship as we head into the spring break week.
