The high school baseball season is officially underway. This is our favorite time of the year and we can’t wait to cover the state from now until the state championship. Be sure to to be tuned in daily for content on the season.

Everything high school baseball related will be on the GHSA tab on our website. It can be found HERE. This will include the Power 25, Classification Rankings, weekly scout blogs and more.

Here we will take a look at the games our scouts went to from the previous day and highlight key moments, standout players and our takeaways from the game.

Wednesday

McIntosh @ McEachern

Score: McEachern win, 1-0

Standouts:

Jackson Heeb, C, 2027, McIntosh

Caleb Pearson, OF, 2029, McIntosh

Gavin Dykes, RHP, 2029, McIntosh

Jordan Stokes, C, 2026, McEachern

Alijah Asad, 2B, 2027, McEachern

Ezra Gandy, RHP, 2028, McEachern

Key Moments:
Both starters in Ezra Gandy (McEachern) and Gavin Dykes (McIntosh) were up for the task as it was scoreless going to the 7th. The game would head into the bottom of the 7th at 0-0 and Alijah Asad kickstarted a rally as he roped a double in the left-centerfield gap. Adrien Islas kept things rolling as he added a single to make it runners at the corners. Makai Johnson put together a good at-bat as he worked a walk. Then Kyrun Walker-Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the walk-off win.

Avery’s Takeaway:
This was a pitchers duel as both offenses could seem to get nothing going, but McEachern was able to claw their way to a victory. Ezra Gandy pounded the zone as he induced weak contact all night long and is one of the staples in this rotation for Coach Autry and staff. The lineup for the Indians is upperclass heavy and anyone 1-9 on a nightly basis could beat you. For McIntosh it was good to see them compete in a tough loss, but the talent for the years to come is clear to see. 4 freshmen start on this club as they bat 1,2,4, and 5 in the order. Mixing in upperclass talent as well with names like Jackson Heeb who is a fixture in the heart of the order while providing an impact glove at catcher. This will be two teams to watch down the stretch as we hope to see them again this Spring.

St. Pius X @ Marist

Score: Marist win, 6-5

Standouts:

Martin Shelar, OF, 2026, Marist

JP Apgar, 2B, 2026, St. Pius X

Andrew Biggers, 1B, 2028, St. Pius X

Roshan Bullard, RHP/3B, 2026, Marist

Key Moments: St. Pius X would come out hot and plate 4 runs in the top for the 1st with Andrew Biggers coming through with a big 2-run knock as well as Grayson Granberry who added an RBI 1B as well. Marist would instantly chip away thanks to a Martin Shelar RBI 2B and Jack Simmons sac fly would cut the lead in half. Both teams would trade runs in the 2nd with Easton Bailey coming through for St. Pius and Luc Roma for the War Eagle. The big inning for Marist came in the 4th, scoring 3 runs thanks to a laser beam HR from Shelar alongside Carson Walker and Simmons adding RBIs. Roshan Bullard with 3.0 scoreless IP out of the pen was ultimately the deciding factor on the night.

Ian’s Takeaway: The battle for this region gets even tighter now with both teams sitting tied for 1st at 9-1 after splitting the series. This was a big win for the War Eagles to get over .500 for the year while getting into first in region at the right time. Martin Shelar has been the difference maker all spring and had another 3-for-3 night while extending his state-lead in HR. Anthony Agah has become a real factor in the leadoff spot and earning experience that will be vital for this stretch run. The upperclass depth for Marist was inexperienced coming into the spring but jelling at the right time with Sean Walsh, Luc Roma, among others coming through on a nightly basis. St. Pius X has a tough upcoming schedule surrounding their last two region series and will be battle tested for what looks like another playoff run for the Golden Lions. Two region series remain for both teams, and will be very interesting to see how it plays out over the next two weeks.
