Notable Recaps from Thursday

Mobile Christian (8) vs. Faith Academy (6)
Mobile Christian took Game 1 of a key area series with an 8-6 win over No. 1 Faith Academy on Thursday, using a late push to secure the victory. Faith Academy jumped out to a 4-0 lead early behind RBI swings from Eli Quinley, Cooper Smith, and Riley Wilemon, but Mobile Christian answered in the fifth, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting to take a 5-4 advantage. The Rams responded to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh on an RBI single from Braydon Wright. The Leopards delivered in the ninth, breaking the tie and adding insurance to secure the win. Landen Douglass and Alex Gaston led Mobile Christian offensively with two hits apiece, while Douglass, Brayden Page, and Gaston each drove in a run. The Leopards also showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks in the game, with Douglass and Page each earning multiple free passes.

Brooks (5) vs. Wilson (4)
Brooks outlasted Wilson in a marathon, walk-off 5-4 victory in 15 innings on Thursday in Game 1 of a key area series. Wilson struck first in the opening inning, but Brooks answered with three runs in the bottom half to take an early lead. The Warriors battled back to regain control in the third, and the game remained tight throughout before Brooks tied it at 4-4 in the sixth. From there, both pitching staffs settled in and traded zeros deep into extra innings until Brooks broke through in the 15th, when Mason Gandy delivered a walk-off double to seal the win. Charlie Buttram was outstanding in relief, tossing 7.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. Andrew Edwards led the offense with a four-hit performance, while Brooks also created pressure on the bases with eight stolen bases.

Sipsey Valley (6) vs. Northside (5)
Sipsey Valley held off a late push from Northside to earn a 6-5 win in Game 2 of the area series on Thursday, evening things up after Northside took Game 1 earlier in the week. Northside would go on to win the Game 3 tiebreaker, but with only Games 1 and 2 counting toward the area standings, the series officially ends in a split. Sipsey Valley jumped out early and built a 5-1 lead in the third inning, capitalizing on an error along with a sacrifice fly from John Logan Hooper and a two-run single from Thomas Norris. The Bears added another run later, which proved to be the difference. Northside chipped away throughout, highlighted by a solo home run from Austin Kightlinger, but ultimately came up just short in the comeback attempt. Norris led Sipsey Valley with two hits and two RBIs, while Elliott Lyons also drove in a pair. Hayden Davis earned the win on the mound, and Kingston Trull closed it out to secure the victory.

Spain Park (5) vs. Chelsea (3)
Spain Park improved to 2-0 in area play with a 5-3 win over Chelsea on Thursday, building an early lead and holding on late. The Jaguars set the tone early, scoring in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 5-0 advantage. Evan Taylor delivered an RBI single in the first, Joe Cross added to the lead in the second, and Jack Lutenbacher extended it in the third. Chelsea made a push late, cutting into the deficit with runs in the final innings, but Spain Park was able to close it out. Cross led the offense with two RBIs, while Spain Park showed a disciplined approach at the plate with eight walks and added pressure on the bases with five stolen bases. Brody Smith earned the win, and Ryne Paquette recorded the save.

Vestavia Hills (14) vs. Thompson (3)
Vestavia Hills cruised to a 14-3 win over Thompson on Thursday, using a fast start to take control early. The Rebels erupted in the first inning, sending multiple runs across on a string of hits from Charlie Taaffe, Cross Tonsmeire, Jacob Harris, and Luke Green along with productive outs to build a commanding lead. They continued to add on in the second and third innings to extend the margin. Vestavia Hills finished with 10 hits in the game, with Tonsmeire, Taaffe, Green, and Cohen Walker each collecting multiple hits. Green and Haines Bridges led the way with three RBIs apiece. Capp Trimm earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs over four innings, while the Rebels backed their pitching staff with clean defense and steady offensive pressure throughout.

Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (4) vs. Hoover (2)
Hillcrest picked up a 4-2 win over Hoover on Thursday, using timely offense and a strong start on the mound to secure the victory. Hoover struck first in the opening inning, but Hillcrest answered in the second with RBI contributions from Gunner Webb and Jayden Armstrong to take the lead. After Hoover tied the game in the third, Hillcrest responded once again, taking the lead for good on a sacrifice fly from Wyatt Garner. The Patriots finished with multiple contributors offensively, with Seth Hardin and DJ McGruder each collecting two hits, while four different players drove in runs. Mason Booth earned the win with a solid six-inning outing, allowing two runs while striking out eight. Myles Denson closed the door in relief to secure the win.
