On Wednesday, March 18th, Prep Baseball Wisconsin hosted the first Wisconsin Preseason ProCase at STiKs Academy in Waukesha, WI. This event featured 11 prospects, all pitchers, and allowed our staff as well as MLB scouts the opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players in attendance.

On the mound, the right-hander utilizes a high leg lift with balance, driving down the rubber with closed direction before finishing well over his front side. He operates with an online, quick arm action that comes through a high-¾ slot. His fastball sat 91-92 mph (2,319 rpm) with 15.9 inches of average induced vertical break and topped at 93.0 mph, while his curveball played at 74-76 mph (2,319 rpm) with -16.4 inches of horizontal movement. Schmidt also spun a sharp 10/4 slider that sat 78-80 mph (2,577 rpm) with -16.9 inches of horizontal movement and a firm sweep. To complete his four-pitch mix, he showed feel for a changeup with late bottom that played at 82-84 mph (2,014 rpm) with 17.3 inches of horizontal movement. The arm action works clean and athletic, releasing from an over-the-top slot, quick arm speed through release with whip and life out of the hand. His fastball sat 89-91 mph (2,298 rpm) with an event-best 19.9 inches of average induced vertical break, while his curveball played at 73-74 mph (2,555 rpm) with 12.2 inches of horizontal movement. The curveball acted as a sharp 11/5 out-pitch, and he rounded out his arsenal with an 81-83 mph (1,820 rpm) changeup that featured 16.2 inches of horizontal movement alongside advanced feel for the strike zone.

+ RHP Dylan Schreiber (Waukesha West, 2027): Purdue commit, a highly projectable 6-foot-6.6, 223.3-pounds, long levered and a wiry frame that promises plenty of future physical fill. His slider played at 75-77 mph (2,189 rpm) with -2.6 inches of average horizontal movement, serving as a quick, late-breaking pitch that he consistently lands for strikes. Rounding out the arsenal, his changeup played at 81-83 mph (2,159 rpm) with 15.9 inches of average horizontal movement, fading from the exact same window as the fastball to operate as a weapon against hitters on both sides of the plate.

He additionally spins a short, lateral slider at 80-83 mph (2,364 rpm) with 3.8 inches of horizontal movement.
