As we look back on the 2025 summer tournament circuit here in Kansas City, we’ll be breaking down the top players by tool from each class based on evaluations from our scouting team at Homefield and Creekside. Follow along as we take a deep dive into these players and highlight the summers they put together. Each week will feature our top five players based on each tool from the class, presented in no particular order.

Top Off-Speed Class of 2028

Brooks Robinson RHP / 1B / Greene County Tech, AR / 2028

Brooks Robinson was one of the top arms we saw all year when he took the mound at the Central Super Sophomore Games in August. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-hander immediately drew attention with an 89 MPH fastball that has since climbed to 91 MPH.

He also features a changeup that has stood out as one of the better off-speed pitches we’ve seen in the class, trending toward a truly “cruel” secondary that hitters have to account for.

Robinson’s changeup isn’t just a solid change of pace, the movement profile is equally impressive. It averaged 10 inches of induced vertical break and nearly 13 inches of horizontal break. What makes it so effective is the induced vertical break; most changeups show more drop with negative IVB, but Robinson spins his well enough that it actually carries more like a fastball while still fading away from left-handed hitters. That combination creates a ton of deception, and we see it trending toward a plus pitch, especially as his fastball continues to gain velocity.
