Ontario Preseason Invitational: Positional Data Dive

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, Canada

On Monday, February 16th, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted it's second annual Preseason Invitational, an Invite-Only event for premiere talent in the 2026-2029 classes, hosted at Future MVP Baseball Lab in Scarborough, Ontario.

This event featured roughly 75 top prospects in the 2026 - 2029 classes as players were competing for roster spots on Canada/Ontario's National Team's at events such as the Future Games, Senior Future Games, West Coast Games, New York State Games, NorthEast Senior Games and the Best of the West.

All players ran through a full workout that included batting practice and bullpens captured on our TrackMan, swings captured by Blast Motion, 30-yard with splits captured by VALD Performance and positional metrics. Over the next several days we'll be highlighting top performers from the event within our post-event analysis. Stay locked into our social media channels over the next several days as we continue to push out video, leaderboards and more.

Earlier this week, we began our post-event coverage within our Statistical Analysis and Pitching Data Dive articles. Today, we will continue our post-event coverage within this Hitting Data Dive article as we bring you the top Trackman Hitting data collected during batting practice on Wednesday.

TRACKMAN

EXIT VELOCITY (MAX)

EXIT VELOCITY (AVG.)

Exit Velocity: This metric measures the speed of the ball, measured in miles per hour, as it comes off the bat at the moment of contact.

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (MAX)

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (AVG.)

HARD HIT %

LINE DRIVE %

SWEET SPOT %

Sweet Spot percentage: This metric is determined by how often the player produces a batted ball during the session with a launch angle between 8 to 32 degrees.

BLAST MOTION

AVG. HAND SPEED

Hand Speed: The observed speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge.

AVG. BAT SPEED

Bat Speed: The observed speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact. The sweet spot of the bat is measured six inches from the tip of the bat.

AVG. ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION

Rotational Acceleration: Rotational Acceleration measures how quickly your bat accelerates into the swing plane. Rotational Acceleration is a good indicator of how you build bat speed by sequencing properly vs. pulling the bat with your hands. The quicker your rotational acceleration, the more power you will have and the more time you have to make a decision at the plate.

AVG. ON-PLANE EFFICIENCY

On-Plane Efficiency: Measures the percentage of your swing where the bat is on the swing plane. Your vertical bat angle at contact establishes the plane for that swing. Plane is a great indicator of making consistent contact and barreling balls.
