2026 Bob Jones Patriots Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Bob Jones enters the 2026 season with championship-level expectations after a 37-12 campaign that ended just one win shy of another trip to the 7A state finals. The Patriots fell 3-1 in Game 3 to eventual state champion Tuscaloosa County in the Final Four, capping another deep postseason run for a program that continues to set the standard in Class 7A. With 7A Pitcher of the Year Tanner Hermesch now gone, the focus shifts to a new core that features elite arms, impact transfers, and a roster built to make another serious push in one of the toughest classifications in the state.

The foundation of this team starts on the mound and up the middle. SS Kamrin Jenkins (Missouri, 2026) moved in from Illinois during the offseason and projects to be one of the top players in Alabama, giving Bob Jones a premium defender and impact bat at shortstop. 1B/RHP Cole Spanier (2026) returns as the top returning hitter after blasting five home runs in 2025 and remains a middle-of-the-order threat, while also bringing late-inning stuff that has reached 90 mph on the mound. Behind the plate, C/RHP Mick Tyrrell (Lawson State CC, 2026) returns as a team captain after catching 70% of the games in 2025, and his sidearm look gives the Patriots another dynamic bullpen weapon when he’s able to get on the mound. C/OF Tayte Dunn (Itawamba CC, 2026) is a transfer who adds another college-ready catcher with a middle-of-the-order profile and added offensive upside. The pitching staff is where Bob Jones separates itself from most teams in the state. RHP/DH Joshua Wilhide (2026) pitched big innings out of the bullpen during the 2025 playoff run and now moves into the top of the rotation. RHP/OF Reece Brazeal (Itawamba CC, 2026) also takes on an expanded role after delivering key postseason innings a year ago, giving the Patriots another frontline option with experience on big stages. RHP/OF Graham Segraves (2027) is expected to open the spring as one of the top four starters after logging varsity innings as a ninth and tenth grader and turning in a strong fall. RHP Hudson Olive (2028) saw minimal varsity time as a ninth grader, but he’s viewed as a high-upside Division I type arm who adds even more depth and ceiling to the staff. With multiple 85+ starters and two potential high-leverage relievers, Bob Jones has the type of pitching depth that can match up with anyone in the state. The next wave of talent is just as impressive. SS Micah Sigler (2028) is already tracking as a future Division I player, while INF Greyson Wuis (2030) is an elite young prospect with a massive ceiling. That blend of high-end varsity talent and premium underclass depth positions the Patriots not only to contend in 2026, but to sustain success for years.

Looking ahead, the identity is clear: pitching depth, strong catching, and middle-infield defense will be the backbone. Offensively, there are holes to fill from 2025, but the roster talent gives Bob Jones every ingredient to be dangerous when it matters most. As head coach Jared Smith said, “The expectations are no different in 2026 for our team as our goal is to win 7A Area 8 and be contenders for the 7A State Championship. We feel like we have the pitching depth that will match up with anyone in the state. We will need some guys to step up offensively as we only return 2 offensive starters from 2025.” With that arm talent and a roster loaded with impact pieces, Bob Jones again looks like a legitimate state title contender heading into the spring.
