The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

St. Michael Catholic enters the 2026 season coming off a year of real progress, finishing 13-15 after winning just one game in 2024 and notching its first area win over Orange Beach in four years. That jump forward marked an important step for the Cardinals as the program continued to build momentum and establish a more competitive identity within a challenging Class 4A, Area 2 landscape. With much of last year’s experience returning, St. Michael Catholic looks to turn that progress into consistency and push toward postseason contention.

The foundation of this year’s club is built around a strong returning core, led by 1B Cam Kerbl (2027), OF Brayden Smith (2026), C Noah Mosley (Stillman, 2026), and SS Wright Williamson (2026), who give the Cardinals experience up the middle and stability throughout the lineup. That group provides a reliable mix of offense and defense, while a talented group of underclassmen, including C Declan Reidy (2028), SS Marshall Petry (2028), and UTL Zack Buss (2028), adds depth and competition across the roster. With most of the innings on the mound and the majority of the lineup returning, St. Michael Catholic should be more balanced and better equipped to compete on a nightly basis.

Looking ahead, the Cardinals believe their experience and continuity can translate into a more complete and consistent brand of baseball in 2026. The goal is clear: take another step forward and find a way into the playoff picture in a highly competitive area. As head coach Peter Bezeredi put it, “We are looking to have a break out season and find a way to make the playoffs in an extremely competitive area. We are returning 7 out of 9 starters from last year and have added some key pieces to the line-up from players moving up from JV.” If St. Michael Catholic continues to build on last season’s momentum, this group has a chance to make meaningful noise this spring.
