2026 Grissom Tigers Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Grissom enters the 2026 season coming off a 24-12 campaign that ended with a first-round playoff exit, but the Tigers return a veteran core that gives them a chance to build on that success in one of the state’s toughest classifications. With a roster that brings back experience on both sides of the ball, Grissom will lean on its identity of pitching, defense, and steady play as it looks to make a deeper postseason push in Class 7A, Area 7.

The foundation of this year’s team starts on the mound and up the middle, led by RHP/SS Carter Edwards (2026), who figures to be a key piece both as an arm and a position player. RHP/OF Griffin Grigsby (Bevill State CC, 2026) adds another experienced presence to the staff and lineup, while LHP/1B Braydon Weaver (2026) gives the Tigers a left-handed option who can impact the game in multiple ways. RHP/SS Dalton Dardin (2027) and RHP/OF Cole Ziak (2027) provide additional depth and versatility, while C/1B Jarrett Brown (2027) anchors things behind the plate and in the middle of the order. The Tigers will also look for contributions from RHP/UTL Jackson Fanning (2028) as he continues to develop, along with OF/RHP Nash Parker (2027), who adds another experienced piece to the mix.

Looking ahead, Grissom’s strengths start with its pitching, defense, and overall experience, which should allow the Tigers to compete consistently throughout the season. “We have a veteran group with good leadership. We are built on pitching and defense and will be a very aggressive offensive team,” said head coach Jeremy Brown. With a strong returning core and a clear identity, Grissom will look to turn regular-season consistency into a deeper postseason run in 2026.
