Director's List: Uncommitted Catchers

By: Max Semler
North Texas Scouting Director

Prep Baseball Texas Scouting Director Max Semler shares impressions and notes on uncommitted catchers seen at Prep Baseball events since the start of the year. This list is in no particular order. These players have shown the ability and tools to develop into solid college catchers and have a chance to play and contribute at some level of college baseball after their senior year.

Note: Some of these players I have only seen in workouts and our game-play events. In addition to their high school, I have also listed their summer teams. Everyone needs catchers, so here are some names to do some work on if you need one. No Underclass Future Games participants are included.

Tucker Baugh | C | Breckenridge | 2028 | R/R | 5’8” 175
Athletic with a frame that projects well for added strength. Ran a 6.95 60. Posted 1.97-2.02 pop times in the workout with accurate throws and quickness to the release. Gets on plane at the plate and produces line-drive contact. Hit approach will continue to develop and firm. A 2028 grad who should continue to improve.
Summer Team: Fort Worth Cats U17/18 White

Tanner Brown | C/1B | Lovejoy | 2027 | R/R | 6’3” 220
Solid build/frame with room to add strength. Did a nice job receiving in game play and has shown the ability to handle velocity behind the plate. Pop times in the workout were 1.90-2.00 with carry to the throws, and he has posted catcher velo up to 84 at past events. Gets on plane at the plate, producing line-drive contact, and does a nice job of barreling the baseball. Will continue to develop as a hitter. Can also play 1B and has shown some velocity on the mound, getting up to 91. Versatile player who should continue to get better.
Summer Team: Dulin’s Dodgers 18U Prime

Liam Orenstein | C | Bridgeland | 2028 | R/R | 5’11” 174
Great build/frame to add strength. Did a solid job receiving in game play. Posted quality pop times in the workout while showing some raw arm strength and quickness to the exchange/release, averaging 1.93. Did not get a pop time in game play. Reached a 101 exit velo and shows the ability to barrel the baseball with present bat speed. Offensive approach is developing. The tools and ability should continue to firm, with added strength being a big component of his future development.
Summer Team: Scorpions Team Easton

Cooper Newby | C | Southlake Carroll | 2027 | S/R | 6’2” 184
Athletic, switch-hitting catcher and a solid receiver. Posted 1.89-2.00 pop times with accuracy and quickness to the exchange/release. Developing carry to the throws and has made an adjustment mechanically by doing a better job staying behind the baseball. Shows a solid hit approach from both sides of the plate and works through the middle of the field. Consistent contact off the barrel with more lift from the left side and has gone over 100 with exit velo. Great approach to the game with quality work habits. Academic-oriented student who will continue to add strength and improve.
Summer Team: Stix Scout 2027

Jaden Sandoval | C | Melissa | 2027 | R/R | 5’10” 171
Athletic with some present strength and a frame/build that can add more. Good mover on the baseball field who has run a 6.93 60. Solid receiver with proven ability to handle velocity and shows the ability to move and block. Posted 1.91-2.01 pop times in the workout, with quickness standing out over raw arm strength. Aggressive hitter with a pull approach and the ability to leave the yard to the pull side. Barrel finds the baseball consistently with solid bat/hand speed. There is more there offensively with adjustments to the dead-stop hands. Productive HS player.
Summer Team: 2027 Scorpions Team Easton

Alec Andrews | C | Liberty Christian | 2027 | R/R | 5’11” 191
Solid build/frame with room to add strength. Ran a 6.98 60. Receives well and moves well behind the plate with quickness to the exchange/release. Pop times averaged around 1.93-1.94 in the workout with a 2.03 in-game pop time. Pull approach with the ability to impact the baseball, showing present raw power to the pull side. Reached a top exit velo of 104 with consistent hard contact off the barrel. Nice combination of hand and bat speed. Will continue to develop and is one of the better “now” catcher profiles on the list. Extremely confident player.
Summer Team: Cooperstown Cobras Treadaway 2027

Alan Mireles Madrid | C/UTIL | Seminole | 2027 | L/R | 6’0” 178

Pop times in the workout have been as low as 1.86, with a 2.05 in-game pop on an accurate throw. Aggressive pull approach at the plate with solid contact off the barrel and present pull-side power. Has reached 101+ exit velo. Solid makeup and approach with a strong work ethic. Will continue to develop.
Summer Team: TBD

Kason Burger | C | Byron Nelson | 2028 | R/R | 5’9” 170
Will continue to add strength physically. Receives and moves well behind the plate. Workout pop times have been solid, with quickness to the release standing out over raw arm strength. Averaged around 1.95 in the workout and posted a 2.05 in-game throw with accuracy. Solid hit approach, and the consistency of his barrel contact firmed over the summer. Shows bat speed, with more impact coming as strength is added. Still has opportunities for development and plays the game the right way.
Summer Team: DFW Twins Scout Team

Stephen Webber | C | Boyd | 2027 | L/R | 5’8” 194
Stocky, solid build/frame. Moves well for the body type and will run better than 7.0, with a 6.83 on a fast track. Solid catch-and-throw guy who handles pitchers and blocks well. Posted 1.94-2.02 pop times in the workout and a 2.04 in-game caught stealing with carry to the throw. LHH with present pull-side power. Barrel finds the baseball, hand speed is present, and he gets on plane. Has the now ability to contribute early.
Summer Team: Wow Factor Texas National 2026

Jake Usrey | C | Rockwall | 2027 | S/R | 6’0” 160
Will add strength and is not close to physical maturity. Ran a 7.0 60. Raw arm strength has increased since seeing him at the January event. Showed 2.00-2.08 pop times in January, and the arm has firmed since then with more development coming. Switch-hitting catcher with a present hit approach and plate discipline from both sides. Produces solid contact off the barrel, with impact expected to increase as he adds strength. Hit leadoff for his HS team. Upside.
Summer Team: Dulin’s Dodgers 18U Prime Godwin

Ryder Sommer | C | Troy | 2027 | R/R | 5’8” 193
Solid build/frame with present strength and room to add more. Ran a 7.08 60. Receives well and shows quickness in the hand/glove exchange. Posted 1.96-2.01 pop times in the January workout with throws consistently on target. Gets into a solid position to hit with a middle-of-the-field approach and line-drive contact. Recovering from a knee procedure later in the summer and should be healthy for the spring.
Summer Team: Dallas Tigers West National 2027 Beavan/Killian

Cael Rogers | C | Flower Mound | 2027 | R/R | 6’1” 200
Great build/frame to add strength. Ran a 7.21 60 and is a hard runner. Receives well in game play and has shown the ability to catch quality arms. Carry to the throws with avg accuracy and an avg workout pop time of 1.97. Shows plus bat speed for a HS hitter with hard contact off the barrel. Pull-side power is developing, with more raw power coming as the strength continues to firm. Will continue to develop.
Summer Team: USA Prime DFW 2027

Mark Ogden | C | Aledo | 2028 | R/R | 5’11” 210
Solid build with the ability to add increased strength. Ran a 6.98 60. Still developing behind the plate, but the hands work as a receiver. Raw arm strength will continue to develop and shows carry at times. Pop times have been as low as 1.96 with a 2.02 average. Solid swing and approach to hit with the ability to impact the baseball and present bat speed. Upside is there.

All around solid day for De Leon when we saw him at the San Antonio Summer ID. Showed arm strength behind the dish with a pop time near 2 flat. Athleticism is apparent, running a 6.84 60 and showing quickness in the feet on throw downs. Strength in the barrel, with a 100+ EV in BP and consistent hard contact.
